June Long Weekend has arrived and we hope it's a lot drier than the last couple of weeks have been so everyone can get out and enjoy themselves ๐Ÿ˜Š
A veterinarian will be ON-CALL outside of these opening hours to provide care in those unexpected and emergency situations that may arise. You can call either 6361 8388 or 6362 1510 to get into contact with the on-call veterinarian. If they do not answer your call, please leave a message and they will call you back, they are more than likely with another patient and will get back to you as soon as they are able.
Have a safe and happy long weekend ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿพ

WELCOME LIZ ๐ŸŽ‰

Join us in welcoming our newest veterinarian to OVH, Dr Elizabeth Richardson! ๐Ÿฉบ

Liz joined the team in April and has been finding her feet in the wonderful whirlwind that is Orange Vet Hospital ever since. Originally from Gippsland, Victoria, where she grew up on a cattle farm, Liz moved to sunny Townsville to study veterinary science at James Cook University. When the opportunity arose, she relocated to the much cooler climate of Orange to begin her career as a veterinarian.

We are so excited to have you as part of the team, Liz, and canโ€™t wait to watch you grow and flourish as a mixed practice veterinarian. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿพ

Is your dog vaccinated or up to date with their vaccinations? ๐Ÿ’‰

Following the recent rainfall, there has been a surge in Parvovirus cases across the Central West region. Now is the time to be extra vigilant if your pet is not vaccinated or overdue for their vaccinations.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that affects a dogโ€™s gastrointestinal tract. It is spread through direct or indirect contact with infected faeces, and the virus can survive in the environment for years โ€” leaving unvaccinated puppies and adult dogs at risk.

SYMPTOMS OF PARVOVIRUS INCLUDE:
๐Ÿ”˜ Refusal to eat or drink
๐Ÿ”˜ Vomiting
๐Ÿ”˜ Diarrhoea (often bloody)
๐Ÿ”˜ Lethargy/Fatigue
๐Ÿ”˜ Fever

If your puppy or adult dog is not up to date with their vaccinations and is showing any of these symptoms, we strongly recommend booking a consult with a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Puppies require 3 vaccinations at 6, 9, and 12 weeks of age before they are fully vaccinated and should remain confined to their own yard until their vaccination course is complete. Adult dogs also require ongoing vaccinations to remain protected, as they can still contract Parvovirus if they are not current.

If your pet is overdue for their vaccinations, you can book an appointment online via the link below or call us on 6361 8388 to speak with one of our lovely receptionists during opening hours ๐Ÿ“žโฌ‡

Prevention is always better than a cure โ€” staying up to date with vaccinations is one of the best ways to protect your pet from this devastating disease ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก
