💜 Today is Veterinary Nurse Day 💜
Today officially belongs to our veterinary nurses, but at Canobolas we also include our wonderful receptionists in this celebratio. Their roles may be different, but together they form the amazing support team that keeps our hospital - and the rest of us -running.
There are so many things they do that most people never see.
When your pet wakes from an anaesthetic, there is a nurse watching every breath and keeping them warm.
When they are frightened, sore or missing home, there is a nurse beside them, offering a gentle hand, a quiet voice - and sometimes the only treat they have agreed to eat all day.
Our nurses monitor anaesthetics, take blood, place catheters, calculate medications, do nurse consults, take x-rays, care for hospital patients and notice the tiny changes that can make an enormous difference.
They also clean up more wee, poo, vomit, blood, slobber and a**l-gland fluid than anyone should reasonably encounter in one career - and somehow keep smiling.
At the front of our hospital, our receptionists are caring for those at the other end of the lead.
They answer worried phone calls, find appointments when the day already looks impossible, welcome anxious families, remember names and faces, and often become the calm voice someone desperately needs to hear.
They know which patient requires extra reassurance, which dog responds best to strategic bribery, and which cat has clearly requested that all future correspondence go through their solicitor.
Together, our nurses and receptionists’ comfort worried families, celebrate the good news, carry the difficult days home with them and return the next morning ready to care all over again.
Much of their work happens quietly, behind the scenes. But the compassion, skill and heart they bring to Canobolas can be felt in every corner of our hospital.
Thank you for caring for our patients as though they were your own, for looking after their families, for supporting our vets and one another, and for continuing to show up with kindness - even on the hard days.
