Cherished Pets A unique social veterinary enterprise that supports the human animal bond through all life stages. OUR VISION: Communities where people connect through pets.

Our services include a GP vet service at our clinic in Ocean Grove, Wellness consultant (ie annual health check, vaccination, preventative health plans and nutrition), behaviour and training, end of pet life support and compassionate home euthanasia, and professional support through times of transition and crisis. Happy people, happy pets. CPCVC exists to develop and support community pet care projects in the Bellarine and surrounding regions. We are excited to be offering a leading edge in-home pet care and professional veterinary health management service. Our passion is pets and people. We advocate for the vital role pets play in our health and wellbeing, particularly for senior citizens. We have recently launched Cherished Pets Foundation, a registered charity that will develop and deliver community based pet care projects. CPCVC supports the development and implementation of the programs of CPF. Our inaugural project to be officially launched April 2015 provides in-home pet care support for elderly and disabled pet owners living on the Bellarine. Our activities and vision at Cherished Pets is leading edge in the world of pet care. To our knowledge this is the first of its kind community pet care project being developed with a veterinary focus on the wellness and welfare of pets while advocating for the role pets play in human health and wellbeing. Sweet Jimmy came into the clinic for a limpity leg. He’s like a wombat dog.. chunky, strong, a barrel on four legs, and soft in the middle. Jimmy loved to snuggle his human but we didn’t get a photo of that.. here he was letting us know that it was time to go home and that he knew the way out. 💕 stay well Jimmy!

Those floppy ears might be adorable, but they can sometimes need a little extra care! 🐶👂

Keeping your dog’s ears clean can help remove excess wax and debris and may reduce the risk of irritation and infection, particularly for dogs with floppy ears, allergies or those who love a swim.

Keep an eye out for signs that something might not be quite right:
🐾 Head shaking or scratching at the ears
🐾 Redness or swelling
🐾 An unusual smell
🐾 Excess wax or discharge
🐾 Sensitivity when their ears are touched

If your dog’s ears look red, sore or uncomfortable, or you notice discharge or a strong smell, it’s best to have them checked by your vet before cleaning them at home.

When we say our nurses never quite know what the day will bring… we mean it 🐑😂

Alex and Megan swapped their usual canine and feline patients for a slightly woollier visitor when this little lamb needed some care, including a feed!

While dogs and cats make up most of the patients we see at Cherished Pets, veterinary nursing requires our team to be adaptable, observant and ready to lend a hand when something a little unexpected comes through the door.

And yes, sometimes being a vet nurse means adding “feeding a lamb” to the day’s to-do list. It’s all part of life at the clinic... and one of the reasons no two days in veterinary nursing are ever quite the same.

It’s a fitting way to finish Vet Nurse Week because it captures so much of what our nurses do: adapting to whatever the day brings, caring for every patient who comes through our doors and working alongside our vets to provide the best care they can.

From monitoring patients and assisting with procedures to diagnostics, medications, comforting nervous pets and everything happening behind the scenes, our nurses are an incredibly important part of the Cherished Pets team.

A very big thank you to our wonderful nursing team for everything you do for our patients, their people and our clinic every day 🐾

Sometimes grooming becomes more than a haircut, it becomes a medical procedure.

For Day 4 of Vet Nurse Week, Megan and Ebony are helping Luna with a medical groom.

Medical grooming can be needed when severe matting is causing discomfort or making it difficult to properly assess the skin underneath. Unlike a routine groom, it is carefully managed by our veterinary team, with low-stress handling, adjustments to the environment and, when clinically appropriate, prescribed sedation to help keep the patient safe and comfortable.

Once the coat is removed, our team can also assess the skin underneath for irritation, bruising or other concerns that may have been hidden by the matting.

It’s another example of the many different ways our veterinary nurses support patient health and comfort 💚

Regular grooming at home or with a professional groomer is important too, particularly for pets whose coats are prone to matting. Keeping on top of their coat can help prevent matting from reaching the point where medical intervention is needed.

Not everything our vet nurses do involves a patient in front of them!

There’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes to make sure our clinic is ready to care for your pets.

Here’s Leanne scanning and checking our medications and supplies to make sure we have enough of what our team and patients need.

Stock management might not be the first thing you think of when you picture a veterinary nurse, but keeping track of medications, supplies and equipment is an important part of keeping a busy clinic running smoothly.

It means that when our vets and nurses need something to care for a patient, it’s there and ready to go.

Just one of the many jobs our nursing team quietly keeps on top of every day!
