From finding hidden treats to picking up on emotions, there’s almost nothing our dogs can’t sniff out 👃🐶

Here are some amazing facts about our dog’s nose:

1. Dogs have up to 300 million smell receptors, compared to about 5 million in humans.
2. They sniff a new scent with the right nostril and switch to the left nostril for a familiar or calming smell.
3. A dog’s nose is always moist because of the mucus that helps trap and absorb scent particles.
4. Their left and right nostrils can work separately, allowing them to keep smelling while breathing at the same time.
5. Dogs can pick up on human emotions through subtle scent changes in the body.

These clever wet noses help dogs react, make decisions, and respond to the world around them. That's why regular health checks are so important.

If you notice any unusual changes in your dog’s nose, book an appointment by calling our friendly clinic on (03) 5255 2453.

Don’t forget to share your best sniff-shot with us 🐶📸

Mental exercise is equally as important as physical exercise when it comes to looking after our dog's health and wellbeing ✨

Fun activities like snuffle mats, treat balls, and food puzzles don’t just make playtime more exciting. They also tap into your dog’s natural problem-solving instincts, helping build confidence and reduce stress.

Dr Lissi likes to call it “Sudoku for dogs” as it can turn everyday play into a fun brain training 🐾

Cooler days call for warmer coats ❄️🐕

As the seasons shift, you might start noticing a little more fur around the house (and on your clothes!). This is your pet naturally shedding their lighter summer coat to make way for a thicker, warmer one.

While it’s all part of the process, a little extra care during this time can help keep them comfortable… and extra special care if they are experiencing some arthritic pain.

One of the easiest ways to support them is to brush regularly. It helps remove loose fur, keeps their coat healthy, and can prevent matting.

Not all brushes are the same, so it might take a bit of trial and error to find what works best for your pet’s coat 🪮 You can always talk to our team about brush options too!

Sweet, squishy, and so cheeky, roly-poly Reggie came in recently for a meet and greet with nurse MJ. We love puppies at Cherished Pets. Our next puppy classes starts this Saturday 13th June between 11 am 12pm. 🦴📅

We can already feel he's going to be a great addition to his class, and we cannot wait to welcome his future pup classmates too!

During these sessions, your dogs can:
🐾 Meet other puppies and people in a safe space to help reduce anxiety
⚾ Take on fun activities that support healthy bodies and active minds
🐕 Learn good early behaviour to help prevent problems in the future

As a fur parent, this is also a great opportunity to learn different training methods to better understand and guide your companion as they grow.

Our next puppy school will be this Saturday 13th June.
To learn more or to enrol your puppy, contact our team at (03) 5222 2139.

Today is World Pet Memorial Day.

So we are closing the day with a candle and reflection for those pets who have left us in this past year.

Honoring and rituals matter; creating space for bereavement in our full lives; accepting that the journey through grief is unique for everyone; knowing that you are not alone in your sadness; remembering that celebrating the life of a loved one can bring healing.

Sending love to all those who experience the pain of pet loss.
Reach out if you need support.

Sweet Flora is one of our longest patients 💕

This is Flora 💕

I have been her vet for almost 12 years.

Her humans started bringing her to me when was in its infancy with monthly pop up clinics at and home visits.

I remember her as a puppy like it was yesterday.. she was very wriggly back then.

Now she is an older, calmer girl and getting the top care she deserves with screening assessments and regular visits by our wonderful team at the clinic.

She reminds me of how far we have come at Cherished Pets.

A gracious, loved and healthy older girl.

We love Flora 🙏💕🥰🐞🐾
