Hi everyone
update on pickle the demo horse.
It's his 3rd trim in and he's getting there, but last week he had an abcess blow through his toe.
Things are coming out of him as the weeks go by, but in saying that his hoof growth is improving and were heading forwards not backwards which is always a good thing.
He is getting better sole and the really tender part of his sole is withstanding the deriding part of the trim , and hes growing heel, which he didn't have before.
The hoof capsule is moving down in a healthy way and a consistent time with no real delays.
The abcess was addressed immediately and now gone ,so we were super happy about that , and it had been brewing for a while imo.
As you can see on his left front hoof he has a total of 4 blow-out abcess points and thats what you can see even before we lifted his foot up.
And the other front has 3 .
but dispite all that , he's now moving well, literally visiting the neighbours 🤦‍♀️ and getting up to mischief .
I'll put up the first pic on arrive to refresh your memories and then today's which is technically 11 weeks .
We also fed him from the wheelbarrow as a compromise and it half worked enough for me to get some good photos for you.
but , the nailing is the thing, so all in all, we worked it out and poor trav was buggered , pickle is not easy , he's a sitter like most heavy breeds.
we have also changed a couple of things in his diet , but staying with CEN NUTRITION

Hi everyone, wifey here 👋
This is a 5 week update instead of the 6 week one on pickles feet and progress.
he's started to grow more heel and the walls are starting to get a bit thicker , theres also been a bit of sole growth but were not touching much of that because theyre so thin and dropped/ flat.
Pickle is not an easy horse when it comes to shoeing , he hates the nailing and knows his strength, but we persevered.
last time we could only get 4 nails in the fronts because there wasnt much to nail to.
the previous trim was so bad before he arrived.
as for sole tenderness pads didnt work, blocks didnt work, boots didn't work, because everything was pressure even if it was soft , it was pressure, so we turned to hawthorne hoof freeze to harden him up ,its an age old remedy and it worked .
so every day for a few days it was applied to the sole . until we got the desired affect , we only did it to the fronts and the back feet had the hawthorne soul dressing on.
then for the outside of the feet we applied CEN OIL to the wall and coronet band and rubbed it in with our fingers , its excellent for feeding the hoof and is anti inflammatory, his hoof wall has improved in moisture really well without putting gluggy tacky dressings on.
for his diet there has been a few changes .

1 cup of beet pulp and 1 cup copra
combo chaff
POSEIDON DIGESTIVE H.P
NATURAL EQUINE HEALTH LAMINITIS MX
we dropped the v.m because we needed more hoof building nutrients for an acute stage hoof situation.
he started on natural equine health free mover which works really well for an old boy like him , but we switched over to tye laminatic mix to get more hoof circulation and to carry those nutrients right down where theyre needed and to flush out toxins.
the method in the madness is working well.
Today I could only get one quick pic of his front left because he plays up so much ,so I'll load up 1st time and today to see the difference. and body shot to see the difference 5 weeks makes.
so were heading in the right direction, and next time we'll be using the poseidon stress paste to take that edge of his mental issues , it worked when we were getting him settled so fingers crossed 🤞 itll work on farrier day.

so today we re fit the front shoes and trav took off the back ones to see how he goes barefoot on them and he actually trotted up a hill after we were finished , not sure if that was a two fingers up at us 😂 but that was great to see.

We'll canter through the Mitchell grass and breast the bracing wind:
But we'll have other horses. Our chargers stay behind.
Around the fire at night we'll yarn about old Sinai;
We'll fight our battles o'er again; and as the days go by
There'll be old mates to greet us. The bush girls will be kind,

I don't think l could stand the thought of my fancy hack
Just crawling 'round old Cairo with a 'Gyppo on his back.
Perhaps some English tourist out in Palestine, may find

NO; I think l'd better shoot him and tell a little lie:

Maybe l'll get court-martialled; but l'm damned if l'm inclined
To go back to Australia and leave my horse behind.
