When a cat finally shows obvious signs of disease, they may already have been unwell for some time.

A cat's purr isn't just a sign of contentment. Most cats purr at frequencies between 25 and 150 Hz, a range that researchers believe may support tissue repair, bone healing, and stress reduction. Cats even purr when they're injured or unwell, leading scientists to suggest that purring may play a role in their own recovery process.
