What great info for preparing your dog for travel on the Spirit of Tasmania!
‘After 2 years on the road travelling with a dog, you’d think we’d have dealt with it all! But a 12 hour boat trip... safe to say we were a little concerned how he’d go! 🐶
These are the few things we did, and needed to do, to get him across the Spirit of Tasmania 🛥️
1. EXERCISE - Because we were on a day boat we needed him to be ready for a chill day in the caravan, so we ran him everyday for two weeks along with doggy play dates.
2. FOOD - made sure we fed him a little extra the days leading up with plenty of water. We left him with nothing in the van incase it was rough and to save him needing the bathroom🫣
3. HEARTWORM TREATMENT- The Spirit of Tasmania requires dogs to be wormed, specifically Hydatid Tapeworm, within 14 days of boarding. This can be proved with packaging, receipts or photographs and will be checked when you hand over your dog declaration form.
4. THE BOAT - while the Spirit offers kennels we opted to keep Alfie in the safety and comfort of the van. (You will need to sign a waiver to do so) we kept the floor empty and blocked underneath the draws for any accidents, opened some windows and were placed on a ventilated deck.
All in all it was a great trip, we were lucky to have a relatively smooth sail and Alf managed the whole day without accident and was given plenty of snuggles and a big walk when we parked up on the other side 🙌’
