🎀 Happy 12th Birthday to my beautiful girl, Shadow 🎀
Today we celebrate 12 incredible years with the most special dog a girl could ever ask for.
This year has been one of the hardest we’ve ever faced. Shadow has cheated death twice, shocked her vets more than once, and despite countless tests, we still don’t have all the answers. What we do know is that stress, anxiety and over-excitement can trigger her episodes, and even after a little scare last Friday night, today she is doing what she does best — being Shadow. ❤️
She’s spent her birthday enjoying some gentle runs at her favourite place, car rides, lots of food, endless cuddles, and tonight she’ll be spoiled with a beautiful steak and her favourite carrot cake. Exactly as a birthday princess should be.
A huge thank you to Crazy4Collies for her gorgeous custom birthday bandana. Doesn’t she wear it beautifully? 💕🎂
If I’m honest, today is a very emotional day. When you’re living with uncertainty, every birthday feels a little different. We don’t know how much time we have left with our sweet girl, and that reality makes every cuddle, every tail wag, every happy moment feel even more precious.
Through it all, Shadow has remained my little girl. My shadow. The dog who has been by my side through so many chapters of life.
So today we’re focusing on the good stuff. The sunshine. The smiles. The steak. The carrot cake. And hopefully a Bulldogs win tonight to top off her special day. 💙❤️
Happy 12th Birthday, Shadow.
You are loved more than you’ll ever know, and every single day with you is a gift. 🐾✨

🎉 Phoenix turns 12 today 🎉
It’s been a tough 1.5 years, but this boy just keeps showing me how strong he really is ❤️
I adopted Phoenix when he was 2.5 years old, and I am so incredibly grateful for every single year we’ve had together…
I just wish I had him from a puppy 🥹
He is truly my special boy.
A dog who has helped save lives, supported so many people, and given so much of himself to everyone around him.
So today… it’s only fair he gets spoilt more than usual 💙
His prostrate mass has shrunk by nearly 1/3 — something I don’t take lightly. He’s still on his (very expensive 😅) medication to keep it going in the right direction, but we are so hopeful.
And the biggest win… he’s now completely off his anxiety meds 🙌
He’s playing again.
Loving life.
As affectionate as ever.
And most importantly… he absolutely loves being “Duke’s Dad” 🐾❤️
Today’s celebrations included:
Chicken and treats for brekkie
Sirloin steak for dinner
Rocking his brand new .4.collies custom bandana + birthday hat
12 years of the most beautiful soul.
I don’t take a single moment with you for granted, Phoenix ✨
Happy Birthday my incredible boy 💙

Today’s session with Alfie and Tilly focused on building confidence, improving manners, and creating clarity in everyday situations 🐾
Alfie has been showing hesitation around jumping into the car and using the doggy door. Rather than applying pressure, we took a confidence-first approach, breaking each task down into achievable steps and allowing him to make safe, positive choices at his own pace. This is key to creating long-term reliability and trust.
We also worked on:
-Car loading using gradual exposure and social influence
-Doggy door confidence through desensitisation and positive reinforcement
-Taking treats gently to improve overall impulse control
-Loose lead walking on his new harness, focusing on engagement and position
-Reducing barking behaviours by teaching calm alternative responses and handler focus
Both dogs responded really well, with Alfie already beginning to show increased curiosity and willingness in previously challenging areas.
Training like this is not about quick fixes — it’s about building confident, thinking dogs who understand what’s expected of them.
Looking forward to seeing their continued progress over the coming weeks.

I never thought I’d have to perform CPR on one of my own dogs… but this year, I’ve now had to do it twice for Shadow. 🤍
The first time was back in January when she became overexcited and a treat became lodged in her throat. And then yesterday… something I’ll never forget. Shadow got overexcited with the hose, and in a split second, I turned around to find her lying on her side—unresponsive and not breathing.
Training kicks in when emotions don’t have time to. I immediately started CPR and called for help. Thankfully, I was able to bring her back—her heart rate stabilised, circulation returned, and not long after, she was eating and drinking again like the little fighter she is.
A huge thank you to the incredible team at Noosa Village Vet for getting us in and taking such great care of her. After assessment, it looks like she may have choked on her tongue—something linked to her cognitive condition. To be safe, we’ll be having a specialist come up to perform a heart ultrasound and rule out any underlying conditions.
Last night, I didn’t sleep. I watched her, listened to every breath, and stayed right by her side. And yet… she’s still her—happy, full of life, and wagging her tail like nothing happened. Even the vet couldn’t believe how bright she was.
Moments like this remind me just how precious they are. Every single day with her is a gift I will never take for granted.
Please—learn pet first aid and CPR. It can mean the difference between life and loss.
Hold your dogs a little tighter tonight 🤍k.a_brutus

Today marked an important step forward for Buddha in his assistance dog journey 🐾
We began foundational training focused on locating his handler’s carer/known person, a critical skill that can provide safety, reassurance, and independence for his handler in moments of need. Teaching a dog to purposefully seek out a specific person is not only technically complex, but life-changing when applied in real-world scenarios.
Alongside this, we worked on:
✔️ Crowd control – helping Buddha confidently create and maintain space around his handler in busy environments
✔️ Guided return to the car – building a reliable behaviour where Buddha can safely lead his handler out of shops or high-stress situations back to a secure location
These skills form part of a much bigger picture. Assistance dogs are not just highly trained companions — they are lifelines. They provide safety, emotional regulation, and practical support for individuals navigating complex conditions, allowing for greater independence and confidence in everyday life.
Buddha showed fantastic focus and willingness to learn today, and this is just the beginning of what will become a very powerful and meaningful partnership.

Today’s session with Ziggy focused on building the foundations required for a reliable assistance dog 🐾
We worked on reinforcing calm engagement, with Ziggy learning to offer consistent check-ins and remain connected to his handler in a variety of low-distraction environments. We also progressed his grounding work through “touch”, shaping it into a more purposeful behaviour that will later be used to interrupt rising anxiety and provide reassurance.
Proximity work was another key focus, introducing and strengthening his “close” position to build a sense of safety and stability for his handler. We also began developing early deep pressure therapy foundations, ensuring all interactions remain calm, controlled, and intentional.
Importantly, we introduced the early stages of interrupting stress-related behaviours, teaching Ziggy how to respond in a thoughtful and regulated way rather than reacting with excitement or uncertainty.
Over the next few weeks, Ziggy’s training will continue to build in complexity. We will be focusing on increasing duration and reliability in these behaviours, introducing more real-world environments, and beginning to link tasks together into functional sequences that can be applied in everyday situations.
This stage of training is critical. By prioritising calmness, clarity, and connection, we are setting Ziggy up to become a stable, reliable assistance dog capable of providing meaningful support when it matters most.

One year. One incredible fight. One very special boy. 🖤🤍
Today marks 12 months since Phoenix underwent surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his face… a day that could have gone very differently, but thanks to the incredib and the amazing Dr Bec, my boy is still here with us. And honestly… you can barely even tell he had surgery. Just incredible. 🙌
Phoenix has been through more than most — including having one of the biggest needle phobias ever (definitely inherited from me 😅). The dog who fought so hard not to get needles, who wouldn’t give in to the drugs, who just does things his own way… he’s different, full stop. And I know he’s the kind of dog they’ll be talking about for years to come. 💪
Fast forward to today…
✨ His appetite is back (and then some 😆)
✨ He’s playful, talkative, and full of life again
✨ And he’s back to being the heart of our home
In two weeks, he’s booked in with Noosa Village Vet and Dr Kris for another ultrasound and testing. We’re hoping and praying for good news regarding the new masses in his prostate and chest. 🤞

He’s saved lives, sniffed out cancer, and stood beside our family through the toughest, scariest, and darkest times with Zoe and Shadow. But Phoenix takes it to another level… he doesn’t just stay close, he feels it all. He carries it with us, holds space for us, and never once leaves when we need him most. ❤️

especially when we lost our Zo Zo last year. He grieved with us, lost 3kgs in just two weeks, and never left my side.
He is my rock. My heart. My everything. ❤️
Here’s to one year post-surgery… and many more to come.

Squad goals… but make it well trained 🐾🔥
Four dogs, calm, focused, and happy—even sitting together in a stimulating environment. This doesn’t just happen… it’s trained, reinforced, and built through clear communication and trust 💯
What you’re seeing here:
✔️ Calm mindset around other dogs
✔️ Engagement with handler (even off camera 👀)
✔️ Duration in position without breaking
✔️ Dogs choosing to stay relaxed instead of chaotic
This is what we strive for at Chasing Perfection Dog Training—not just obedience, but dogs that can think, regulate themselves, and make good choices in real life environments 🙌
Because a well-trained dog isn’t just easier to live with…
✨ they’re happier
✨ more confident
✨ and truly free
And yes… they can still be goofy, playful, and full of personality (just with an off switch 😉)
If this is what you want for your dog—calm, focused, and reliable no matter the environment—let’s make it happen 🐕💫

🐾 River putting in the work today 💪✨
Another awesome session with River and her humans today — and wow, she is doing incredibly well, especially considering she’s still just a pup 💙
Today’s focus was all about building calm, control, and real-world reliability — the foundations of a future therapy dog 🧠🐕
We worked on:
✔️ Settling on her mat around distractions
✔️ Building a solid stay with movement and noise
✔️ Lead drop = stay close (safety first 🙌)
✔️ Engage/disengage around other dogs
For such a young dog, River is showing some seriously beautiful skills already ✨ She’s learning that she doesn’t need to react to everything — she can observe, stay calm, and check back in 👀
That kind of emotional regulation at this age is huge, and it’s a credit to the consistency and effort her owners are putting in 👏
it’s about building the right mindset early, and River is absolutely on the right path 🐾💫
