This Saturday, we will be closed for the day as our volunteers come together to attend a private wake and honour the life of someone who has been one of our biggest supporters.
Our team is taking this time to show our love and support as we remember a truly cherished member of our community.
Thank you for your understanding, kindness and patience.
We will reopen as normal on Monday.

This week, our wonderful volunteers are shining a spotlight on a special pet they each love.
Vicki has chosen Ryan, describing him as a big, handsome gentle giant.
Sonia has chosen Tippy, her big, cuddly baby girl and a farmyard favourite with the children.
Last but certainly not least, Hayley has chosen Bella, who has blossomed into such a friendly and affectionate girl.

Here at Hervey Bay Animal Refuge, we love and care for every pet as if they were our own. Helping them find their forever families is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Our adoption process is the same for all of our pets regardless of their age, breed or size to ensure fairness for everyone and most importantly, the wellbeing of our pets.

We ask all potential adopters to visit during our open hours for an in‑person meet and greet before proceeding with an adoption. This helps ensure you are happy with the match and that our pets are too!

We do not offer online adoptions, holds or appointments, our meet and greets are an essential part of the process, where we discuss each pet’s needs, grooming, fencing requirements, etc.

Our adoption fees are the same for all of our kittens/cats and for all of our puppies/dogs.
Fees include desexing, microchipping and one vaccination. If any vet work is still pending, you will receive a voucher to have this completed.

We have so many loving and deserving pets waiting to meet their families so please come in and say hello!

Sometimes life shifts in ways no one ever expects. Illness, housing, finances, safety or simply the realisation that a beloved pet needs more than someone can give.
Surrendering is NOT a sign of not caring.
For many, it’s an act of love and responsibility when every other option has been exhausted. It’s heartbreaking but it can also be the kindest choice for a pet’s wellbeing.
If you are thinking about surrendering your pet, please know this:
You are not ALONE and you are not a BAD OWNER.
Recognising that you can no longer meet your pet’s needs is responsible, brave and deeply compassionate.
At Hervey Bay Animal Refuge, we provide FREE, confidential and judgement‑free surrenders for cats and dogs.

We received the sweetest update from Neela and Taki’s family and our hearts are absolutely glowing.
These two not‑so‑little babies are living their best lives, snuggling with their Mum and Dad, playing with their “big brother” Murphy and even taking over Nanny’s bed like tiny royalty.
They are growing beautifully and are loved beyond measure.
Their family calls them their little energiser bunnies because they are always on the go, they have become the absolute light of their home.
Taki and Neela were part of our Fast and Furrriest litter and will be six months old next month.
Thank you to their wonderful family for the update and for letting us share these gorgeous photos ❤️

Meet Taylor and BoyBoy... a truly special duo hoping to spend their golden years in a loving home together.
Taylor is 15 and absolutely radiates queen energy. She knows who she is, she knows what she likes and she carries herself with the grace of a girl who has seen it all. Her grandson BoyBoy is 11 and absolutely adores her, he takes comfort in her presence and relies on her gentle confidence to feel safe in the world.
These two share a beautiful bond and we would love nothing more than to keep them together. They deserve a soft place to land, a warm bed and a family who will cherish them for the rest of their days.
If you have room in your heart and home for a pair of seniors who will repay you with quiet love and endless gratitude, please come in and meet them.
They truly are worth the visit ❤️

As we close our gates for the day, we couldn’t resist sharing one last special girl with you all… our beautiful Bella.
Bella is truly an all-round delight, well behaved, affectionate and incredibly friendly. She has been with us for quite some time now and we just can’t believe she’s still waiting for her forever home.
She loves a good play session but is just as happy lounging like the queen she is, watching the world go by from the comfort of her soft bed and her favourite tower.
And if you happen to have some chicken… you will have her heart in an instant!
Bella really is something special and we would love nothing more than to see her finally find the loving home she deserves.
