❤️ HAPPY THIRD ADOPTIVERSARY ❤️

Last week marked three fantastic years with our beloved Janeway.

We fondly remember the day we came to adopt. We met a couple of sweet little tabby kittens, and lastly the one-eyed calico cruiser kitty because she previously had calicivirus. I’m pretty sure she was purring from the second she set paws in the courtyard, quickly and happily sitting herself in my lap. At that moment, we knew we would be taking her home - I said to my partner, “I think it’s her!’ We are both nerds and had to give her a space captain’s name fitting of a very special one-eyed kitty: Janeway.

Janeway settled into our household very quickly and made friends with her big sister cat Possum. She has always enjoyed mealtimes getting excitedly chatty when there’s treats and will casually hang around the kitchen if she thinks we’re making food she wants. She likes to keep us company in the bathroom (having learned how to open the door!) and loves to snuggle, especially in the cold weather. She likes to keep watch out the front screen door and will often be waiting to greet us after we’ve been out.

We love our bathroom buddy, chaos critter, bug patrol, meerkat, cheeky beaky, snuggle bug and we’re so glad we have her. To Cat Protection who gave Janeway love, care, and the medical attention she needed before she joined our family - thank you so much for all the work you do!

🐱 Adopt-a-Stray Happily Ever Afters 🐱

After finding them in the middle of the bush with no houses or properties around, we believe Mr Pickles and his brother had been abandoned. Sadly, his brother had passed away but we heard Mr. Pickles mewing on the opposite side of the road in the bushes. After some gentle coaxing he finally came up to us, very scared but I was able to pick him up.
Mr. Pickles was exhausted and starving, he fell into a deep sleep on my lap during the drive home, purring away now that he felt safe and secure. Mr. Pickles is now enjoying a new family that cherishes and loves him.

❄️Winter is a-paw-n us… which hopefully means extra snuggles from your cat! ❄️ If you can’t offer them your lap 24/7 (we all wish we could!), then make sure they stay nice ‘n’ cosy by:

☀️ Position a cat bed or cat tree in a spot that gets sun in the day – it may become their new favourite place for winter siestas

🛌 Place a heat pad (choose one specifically made for animals) in your cat’s bed – especially if your kitty is a senior cat or seems to feel the cold more

🤗 Offer them extra some cosy blankets or beds. Cave or donut beds can be a hit in winter, but each cat have their own favourites

💧Mix a bit of warm water in with their wet food…especially if it has been refrigerated (this is also a sneaky way to get them to hydrate)

♨️ If you want to use heating, besides wall-mounted heaters/reverse air-con, oil heaters or heater fans are the safest option for homes with cats

😻 Happy forever homes 😻

We adopted Portia from the Newtown Adoption Centre recently. We’ve renamed her Cinnamon and she occasionally adopts the nickname Pamplemousse (grapefruit).
She is just so precious and has adjusted swiftly into our family home.
We love her so so much and want to thank you.

On Fridays we share ✨Picture-Purrrfect Meowsterpieces✨ from over the ages. Today we have “My Wife’s Lovers,” by Austrian artist Carl Kahler👨‍🎨 (1856–1906) who painted genre scenes, landscapes, and animals (notably, cats!). Plus, he lived in Australia for a time, painting horses🐎

“My Wife’s Lovers”, commissioned by American millionaire Kate Birdsall Johnson, features 42 of her favourite cats (she particularly loved angoras and it’s said she had 50 to 300 pet cats in total) 😻 But the impressive number of cats isn’t even the most astonishing thing about this painting – rather, it’s that it is huge! Six feet tall, eight and a half feet wide, and weighing nearly 100kg. Now that is the purrrfect statement piece indeed👌

Here are a couple pictures so you can see how well she is settling - she is a little adventurer, and already bringing me so much joy!
We’ve been enjoying some midday pats and head bumps - she gets more affectionate and settled each day which is lovely to see. She is doing so well and I’m very proud of my little girl.

You probably don’t need an excuse to hug your cat but today is ‘Hug Your Cat Day’ so it’s a great reason to give them a big cuddle! 🤗🥰😻 Your cat isn’t a big hugger? Never fear! Here are some other ways you can show your appreciation to their meownificence:

🫶 Offer them their favourite treat, just for being their wonderful selves
🫶 Plate up their most yummy, paw-licking meal for dinner
🫶 Pamper them with a brush and pat so they feel like a superstar
🫶 Gift them a new bed (or box!) to keep warm and cozy this winter
