Does size matter?? What about foot imbalance??
According to Dr Tracy Turner who spoke extensively on foot lameness at the recent Bain Fallon; yes it does.
He found horses that develop lameness are 7.5 times more likely to have small feet, (using a calculation of body weight to hoof area of > 35.38kg/2.54 cm².
He also found that contracted heels are 3.3 times more likely to be seen in a lame horse and medial to lateral hoof wall imbalance is 2.75 times more likely to be seen in a lame horse.
