Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue NSW

Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue NSW The mission of Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue is to provide for the rescue, care and rehome of Ridgebacks

WHAT IS RESCUE
Put simply a rescue dog is one that needs a new home. They come from all sorts of varying backgrounds – but mainly fit into two categories:
• The first are dogs that are surrendered by their owners for rehoming.
• The second are dogs that are surrendered to the pound, RSPCA or Animal Welfare groups.
1. In the first category:
Some of the rescued RR’s come from loving homes that for s

ome reason can no longer keep their pets – Reasons include:
-an owner who has died or needs to go into a nursing home.
-families that are forced to make a lifestyle change such as moving overseas or into an apartment.
-or are given up due to divorce and the financial restraints that this may impose. Some People rehome their dogs because they were unprepared for the lifestyle requirements of the breed or they did not socialise or train when a pup. In most of these cases a complete background of the dog’s health and temperament is usually available.
2. In the second category:
Some of the rescue RR’s that are obtained from animal shelters are ones that were found as strays or surrendered by people for the reasons above. With these dogs a health and temperament history is not always available and we try to assess the dog's behaviour and create a profile to ascertain the most suitable home. They are also taken to a veterinarian for a health check, immunisation and desexing if not already desexed. We try to obtain who the breeder of any dog is that comes into our care and they are our first point of contact regarding rehoming RRs. A list of potential owners waiting for a dog is organised in a list of best fit; placement is decided by where the dog will best suit the lifestyle of the prospective new owners. Costs vary with each rescue but a donation to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue of NSW is greatly appreciated. If you are interested in being a fosterer, rehoming a RR or you have a RR to rehome, please contact us.

Private Rehome - QLD Brisbane

Ivy is a 9 month old Staffy Cross Ridgeback available for adoption currently located in Kingston, Logan QLD.
We originally rescued Ivy at 6 months and she’s proven herself to be a princess who would rather be inside on your bed. Unfortunately, council has said we are not allowed to have 4 dogs where we are.

Ivy is Desexed, up to date with everything, currently 15kg, medium size, on a raw diet and has been brought up around toddlers and small dogs.
She is very good at listening and knows how to sit and high five but is ever watchful of everything going on around her so her ongoing training needs to be maintained.

She enjoys fetch and will sit and wait for her toy, she would be a great sporting dog for lure course or scent trails as she’s very smart and active.

She is nervous in unfamiliar surroundings and takes time to decompress when out on walks, so dog parks are a big no.
And slow introductions to new dogs is a must as she is a nervous dog. In the time we’ve had her she’s come out of her shell so much and would definitely make a good family dog.

**Trial Periods are available for possible new owners to ensure the perfect home

**Home inspections are a must; proof of address is required before new owner can take over ownership

**Ongoing training support can be provided to her new owners by us.

We are able to bring her to you for in home meetings, especially if you’re in the Logan area.

She will come with a bed, toys, harness, dog coats and outfits as well as her flea and tick treatments.
If you think Ivy would fit in with your home and lifestyle, please message the page with your location and phone number and we will pass this on to the owner.

‼️‼️URGENT‼️‼️
We will be more than willing for her to travel by any means necessary for the right home.

Following on from last week’s urgent post with two stories that are still hanging in the balance.

Delilah is our second one 😢
We have about a week!! 🐾🤞

Sadly we had to make decisions on urgency & having for the moment secured the 14 month old boy with great challenges, we are now only able to focus on Delilah 🐕

Again time is not on her side.

She too deserves more than ending up in a pound where she will not cope nor, under the pressure she will face, more than likely have difficulties finding someone to save her.
Between her age and the struggles she has been through Delilah also deserves the chance to feel safe, to feel love, to just be a girl discovering the world the way she should have from the start.

So again we are asking — from the bottom of our hearts — if you feel even a pull reading this… if you think you could be her person to help….. please reach out.

8yo Ridgeback Cross

✨ A Gentle Soul Searching for Safety & Love ✨

Some souls don’t ask for much…
just safety, softness, and someone to lean into. Delilah is one of those souls.

A Ridgeback cross with the softest heart and the kindest eyes you’ve ever seen… the kind that look right into you and stay there. Delilah has known love—but now finds herself quietly waiting for it again 💛

One of our kind hearted RR members spotted her in a local rehome page and steeped up to help 💞

Delilah was in her former from 2 years old when her initial home could no longer care for her. She has been loved since but sadly, due to serious medical challenges, her 2nd family was no longer able to care for her so she went to a temporary home until they knew what the future would hold.

Sadly the temporary care that wasn’t safe at all or suited to her needs, and the stress was showing - she has lost weight, was ignored, yelled at and was very unsettled. She urgently needed to move again. They brought her back but to due to the time constraints and again safety issues for her due to her surroundings they either needed to find her a home or she would go to the pound.

One of our beautiful members put up her hand and tried to make it work quickly for Delilah and her 8 yo RR girl.

Sadly with everything Delilah has been through, it has all been a bit too much and the pressure of competing with another female dog was overwhelming and although good initially, her being over threshold is causing some issues.
That and with the member now needing to be in and out of hospital and not well herself , we are now urgently helping to hopefully find a family who would love a sweet natured, loving, loyal girl who just needs the time, confidence and to learn the world isn’t just upheaval and scary before she runs out of options 😔

💛 About Delilah
• Approx. 38kg, healthy and in great condition
• Exceptionally loving, gentle, and sweet-natured
• A true cuddle bug—lives for affection and closeness
• Will lovingly lean into you, rest her head in your lap, or gently place a paw to ask for more snuggles 🐾

🐾 Temperament & Social Nature

• Fantastic with humans and children of all ages
(she’s grown up with kids—patient, tolerant, and gentle even when they climb all over her)
• Even-tempered, calm, and relaxed in new environments
• Stays close to her people—she just wants to be by your side

🎓 Training & Behaviour
• Professionally trained with strong foundations
• Knows: sit, stay, wait, drop, and has good recall
• Generally calm and chilled
• Can get a little enthusiastic during play (happy jumps!), but settles quickly
• Barks only as a warning
• Does not jump fences

🏡 Lifestyle & Preferences
• Has primarily lived outdoors with proper shelter, but truly just wants to be near her humans
• Loves food (very food motivated 🍖)
• Enjoys rope toys and has a cheeky curiosity for squeaky toys—she must know what’s inside 😉
• On lead: can lean forward with excitement and generally walks calmly alongside you, but can pull if overexcited.
• Untested with cats and we are thinking best not to as she needs to feel safe again first and not overstimulated with other species.

💔 Why She Needs You
Delilah is just looking for a place where she can feel safe again, where she can rest her head, be loved, and simply belong.

She is a beautiful, soulful girl who gives everything she has in love… and right now, she just needs someone to give that love back.

Please If you can offer Delilah the home she deserves, please, please reach out.
Time is important for this sweet girl—let’s get her back to feeling safe, loved, and secure 🐕🐾♥️

In the meantime if you know anyone in Cairns that could help support to the person who stepped up, with a couple of days respite, that would also help us be able keep her safe until we find a home for her.

If you know of anyone who would like to offer this girl a home, a safe place to decompress and spend the time with her please reach out to us.

She will travel, she would be fine being in either transported or flown, she just needs that stable loving home in her senior years that she hasn’t ever truly had.

**AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION** BEAR - 5 YEAR OLD RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK

Meet Bear 🤎

Beautiful Bear has the sweetest, most gentle nature. He absolutely loves people, gets along well with other dogs, and just wants to be close to his humans.

Bear is looking for a calm, loving home where someone is around most of the time. He thrives on companionship and feels safest when he’s not left alone for long periods.

He does experience anxiety, which we’ve been managing in foster care, and he’s already made such positive progress. With the right environment and a patient, understanding owner, Bear will continue to grow into the most loyal and loving companion.

Bear is not tested with cats and kids over 12 would suit him best.

He would love a home that can offer:
• Plenty of time and companionship
• A calm, stable environment
• Ongoing support with his anxiety

In return, you won’t just get a dog you’ll get a soulmate. He’s the most affectionate, gentle soul who just wants to love and be loved.

REGIONAL NSW Pound

‘Rex' 🐕 as he has been named

Male RR Mixed Breed

Approx 10 months old

Rex was brought into the pound after being found roaming locally.

He has a super sweet nature and loves to be around people.

As he is still only young, he is still learning his basic commands but can sit.

He is very playful, happy and friendly with a little bit of a goofy side.

Rex is very food motivated which makes training easy and responds well to positive encouragement.

He is likely to be a medium to large dog.

Rex isn’t fussed on the other dogs in the pound and is more interested in playing around.

If you feel you would like to help save Rex please 🙏 message this page direct in🐕🐾♥️

Bonded Pair 💗

🐕🐾♥️Tama & Missy♥️🐾🐕

Bonded Brother & Sister - 4 YO in April
Two hearts 💕 One home. A lifetime of love waiting….💓

There’s something incredibly special about a bonded pair….
a quiet understanding, a shared comfort, a love that doesn’t need words.

Tama and Missy are exactly that.
Brother and sister 🐕🐕
Side by side since the very beginning.
Two gentle souls who have always had each other—and now, they’re hoping to find a home where they can stay together, just as they should be.

🐾 Their Nature
These two are soft, affectionate, and deeply loyal.

They love company, happily sharing space with their people, yet they’re also content to relax during the day while you go about life.

At night… they come inside, settling peacefully, happy just to be near you.

They are beautifully house-trained, calm in the home, with no destructive habits—no chewing, no digging, no excessive barking.
Just quiet companionship and warm presence.

🐕 Meet the Pair
Tama – the happy, affectionate boy
• No health concerns
• Playful, food-loving, and full of joy
• Can get excited (especially for love and walks!) but melts quickly into affection

Missy – the gentle, sensitive girl
• Occasionally prone to ear infections and a**l gland issues (manageable)
• A little wary at first, especially with new men—but she takes her cues from her person
• Give her a moment… and she will lean into you, soaking up every bit of love.

🌿 Their World
They’ve grown up around a grandchild and are incredibly gentle, often choosing to step away rather than react to noise or sudden movement.

They don’t love the rain (who can blame them ☔lol ) and don’t like to be outside in the dark.

They walk well on lead, are more enthusiastic than difficult when they see another dog. They get excited & curious.
They’re not reactive—just figuring things out and looking for reassurance from their hooman.
They had a small dog visited their yard & they stayed away in a safe place, again, as above with children, choosing to step away rather than react as they didn’t really know how to interact.

No cats (they’re actually scared of them!)

At home, they adore their rope toys, their meals (absolutely LOVE food) and know their basics—sit, shake, down—especially when treats are involved.

And yes…
Missy will politely lie down for her harness,
while Tama—after a burst of excitement—flops onto his side as if to say,
“Okay, I’m ready now.”
It’s as endearing as it sounds. 🤍

💔 Why They Need a Home
Through no fault of their own their life has changed.
Due to a marriage breakdown and downsizing, their current owner can no longer give them the time, space, and confidence they deserve—especially with clients uneasy around larger dogs.

This decision has not been made lightly.
It comes from love… and the hope that someone else can give them the life they’re missing.

✨ The Heart of It
Tama and Missy don’t need perfection.
They don’t need a show home or endless activity.
They just need…
their person. Their place. Their second chance.

A home where their bond is honoured,
their gentle nature understood,
and their love returned.

If you feel that pull in your heart…
the quiet knowing that these are your dogs—

please reach out and pm the page directly

Because somewhere out there,
their next chapter is waiting. 🐾🐕♥️✨

‼️‼️Update - we thank you all for the support of both Koda and his mum at a such a difficult time 😔
Koda has had some beautiful enquiries & whilst we are still working through them we will pop Koda on hold while we work on things.
As we are all aware Alzheimers & Dementia is a progressive illness with moments of clarity and confusion. The moments of clarity can make people feel all is well and then the clouds pass over again.
We are working with all parties to make this transition in the time it needs and with the respect it deserves, holding all involved in our hearts and making the process as gentle as possible.
This though may take time, so as we work with the challenges his mum is facing, please be patient and we will update as we progress through the steps as needed.
We can’t thank you all enough and Koda, his mums family thank you all so much for the kind words and support of a truly beautiful human and her struggles 💞
We are truly thankful and proud to be a part of our wonderful community 🙏
