There is something very satisfying about seeing a colour combination go from an idea in someone's head to an actual piece of gear.

Someone will message me with: “Could I do this colour with that colour?”

And then we start playing around with combinations.

Sometimes it's a very safe choice. Sometimes it's absolutely chaotic. Sometimes I get a message that makes me think, “Okay… I need to see this.”

And then the finished product comes together and I'm like, yep. That's actually really good 😂

I think that's one of the best things about Biothane® gear. It doesn't all have to look the same.

Your horse doesn't need the same colour as everyone else's. Your dog doesn't need the same collar as the dog next door. You can pick something that feels like yours.

And I will never get tired of seeing the finished combinations.

People see the finished halter, collar or lead. They don't always see everything that happens before it gets there.

Measuring. Cutting.Checking measurements again because apparently I don't trust myself the first time 😂

Preparing hardware. Punching holes. Securing screws. Checking everything.

Finding the one tiny thing that isn't quite right. Fixing it. Checking it AGAIN. Then finally packing it up.

There is definitely a slightly less glamorous side to running a handmade business that doesn't make it onto Instagram very often. But honestly, I like that part. Because every order is something I've actually made with my own hands. It's not coming off a warehouse shelf. It's something I have spent time putting together, checking and getting ready to go to someone's horse or dog. And I think that's pretty cool.

Okay, but what actually is Biothane®?

If you've never used it before, it can look a little like leather at first glance, but it behaves very differently.

It's a coated webbing material that's waterproof, durable and ridiculously easy to clean. Which, if you've got horses or working dogs, is a pretty handy combination.

Because:
🐴 Horses sweat.
🐕 Dogs roll in things.
🌾 Paddocks are dusty.
🌧️ It rains.
🟤 Mud happens.

And somehow everything manages to get dirty approximately five minutes after you've cleaned it.

Biothane® is great for that kind of life.

It's waterproof, easy to clean, UV resistant, odour resistant and low maintenance.

And then there's the fun part...
COLOUR 🌈

Because practical doesn't have to mean boring. That's basically why I love working with it.

Tough enough to use. Pretty enough to love. Made for real life.

Dog gear doesn't stay clean for long around here. And honestly, I'm not trying to make it. I'd rather make something that can actually be used.

Walking. Working. Running. Training. Getting muddy. Getting wet. Getting thrown in the ute. Getting washed. Getting muddy again approximately five minutes later.

That's just normal life with working dogs.

One of the reasons I love Biothane® for dog gear is that it's waterproof and easy to clean. When your dog has just decided that rolling in something questionable was the best idea they've had all day, the last thing you want is a complicated cleaning routine for the collar afterwards 😂

The gear is there to be used. So let them use it.

A real test of horse gear isn't how pretty it looks hanging in the tack room. It's what it looks like after a few months of actual use.

Dusty. Sweat. Mud. Rain. Early mornings. Late finishes.

That's what I make ACE and Co gear for.

Pretty enough to love. Tough enough to actually use.

It'll get dirty. That's kind of the point. 😂

Because if you're actually using your gear, chances are it's going to see a bit of mud. And dust. And sweat. And probably a few things you'd rather not think too hard about.

That's one of the reasons I love Biothane®. It doesn't need to be treated like something precious. Give it a wipe, hose it off, clean it up and get back to using it.

Because ACE and Co was never really about making gear that looks pretty sitting in the tack room or hanging on a hook.

It's about making gear you can actually use.

For the muddy paddocks. The dusty roads. The early mornings. The late finishes. The horses. The dogs. And all the messy bits in between.

This is probably my favourite part of the whole workspace.

Just… all the colours.

And yes, I do spend way too long moving them around to see what looks good together 😂

Some combinations make sense straight away. Others look absolutely questionable until you put the finished piece together and suddenly you're like… okay wait, I love that.

If you've ordered from ACE and Co before, there's a decent chance I've had your colour combination sitting on this table at some point.

A little Flossy appreciation post.

These Draw Reins are one of those pieces that don't need much explaining.

They're made to be used. Training. Dust. Dirt. Probably getting thrown somewhere after you're finished.

Then cleaned and used again. That's the whole point of using Biothane®️.

I want the gear to fit into your normal routine rather than creating another thing you have to worry about.
