"Words of calm and reassurance, and total respect for our pet."

The hardest days deserve gentleness, and it means so much to know we could offer a little of that when it mattered most.

Every pet in our care is looked after with that same respect. It's how we'd want our own to be cared for.

How much a child understands depends a great deal on their age.

When a pet’s time is coming, it’s natural to want to protect them from it. Children take their lead from the grown-ups around them, and honest, gentle words can help them feel safe.

Guidance from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry suggests young children often see death as temporary, that understanding grows between about 6 and 8, and that most children grasp it’s permanent by around 9. Every child is different, so follow their lead, and let them see that it’s okay to be sad together.

Vet nurses are often the people families remember from the hardest days with their pet.

The calm voice at reception. The person who explains what happens next. The one who knows when a family needs another minute, another question answered, or simply someone to stay with them for a moment.

That care goes well beyond caring for the pet.

At Passing Paws, we see the difference vet nurses make every day, through the compassion they show pets and the support they give the people who love them.

To the vet nurses across the clinics we work with, thank you for the patience, compassion and care you bring to every family.

Spring has a way of bringing them back🌸

The first warm afternoon, and you half expect to hear them at the back door. The jasmine along the fence they stopped to sniff on every walk. The patch of sun on the floor they always found first.

Memories can return with the season, some gently and some all at once. Each one is a piece of the life you shared, and it’s okay to stop and let yourself feel it.

What does spring bring back for you? You’re welcome to share their name, or a memory, below. We’d love to remember them with you

Grief does not move in a straight line. You can have weeks of feeling steady, then a date arrives, or a song, or the place you used to walk together, and it all feels close again.

That does not mean you are going backwards. It is simply one of the ways grief can show up.

For many people, what returns on those days is not only how much they miss them. It can also be the question underneath it all. Did I get it right? Was it the right time?

If that question has stayed with you, you do not have to carry it on your own. We offer free empathy sessions with a professional pet grief counsellor, giving you space to talk through whatever is sitting with you.

An urn is not the only option, and it is not the right choice for everyone.

Some families want something they can wear. Some want a piece that sits quietly on a shelf and catches the light. Others want something for the garden, in a place that already felt like theirs.

We can talk you through the different options, what each one involves, the cost and the timing, so you can decide what feels right for you.

Most people never think about what a pet crematorium should do until they need one, and by then there is not much time to work it out.

Our door is open, and you are welcome to come and see where your pet will be cared for. Every pet in our care is given their own barcode, which is scanned at each stage from collection through to coming home, with a member of our team signing off at every handover.

It is simply the level of care and accountability we believe every family should be able to expect, without needing to know which questions to ask.
