π¨ Aceβs rat bait scare! πΎ
Meet Ace the Staffy! β€οΈ Ace came into the clinic after his owner spotted him with some rat bait. Thankfully, his lovely owner acted fast and brought him in for induced vomiting (emesis).
π Why is rat bait so dangerous?
Rat bait can be extremely toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Depending on the type, it can cause:
β οΈ Internal bleeding
β οΈ Brain and nervous system damage
β οΈ Kidney failure
β οΈ Severe illness that can be fatal
π° Hereβs the scary part! Even after induced vomiting, the stomach may not be completely emptied, meaning some bait could remain behind. Vomiting alone doesnβt guarantee that all the toxin has been removed, which is why ongoing veterinary treatment and monitoring are strongly recommended, even if your pet seems perfectly fine.
πΆ What should you do if your pet eats rat bait?
β’ Contact your vet immediately, even if your pet has no symptoms.
β’ Donβt wait for signs of illness to appear.
β’ Never induce vomiting at home.
β’ If possible, bring the bait packaging with you so your vet can identify the active ingredient.
β€οΈ A huge shout-out to Aceβs owner for acting quickly! Early veterinary intervention can make a real difference.
Keep rat bait safely out of reach of curious noses and paws. πΎ
