Honestly? It depends on the individual animal. Wet food has a much higher water content, making it excellent for hydration — particularly valuable for cats, who are naturally low-thirst drinkers and prone to urinary and kidney issues. Dry food can offer dental benefits when it's the right formula.

What worked for your pet at two years old isn't necessarily what they need at ten. 🐾

As pets age, their nutritional needs shift — senior animals often need fewer calories, more joint support, higher quality protein to maintain muscle mass, and in some cases, specific nutrients to support kidney or heart function.

Keeping a senior pet on a standard adult food can mean they're getting too much of some things and not enough of others.

How do the Hill’s Dental diets work?
It might be tempting to think that eating ordinary dry kibble may itself reduce plaque accumulation, but this is not in fact the case.

Think what happens when a dog bites into a conventional kibble - the kibble merely shatters and crumbles in the mouth after the edge or tip of the tooth comes into contact with the food.

Given that plaque and tartar accumulation is in a thick band parallel to the gum-line, conventional kibble has very little effect on reducing plaque accumulation.

Joey lives with heart disease and came in for his health check and repeat medication prescriptions. Despite his appointment, he was more than happy to pose in his fabulous party hat! 🎉🥳
