🐾 PUPPY TRAINING 1-1 🐾

Little Captain came out for his first training session this afternoon.

He did a great job with starting to understand the marker ‘yes’ and easily did some sits and lovely drops.

Also took a look at his play. As it was a rather warm day and at a time, I’m sure he would rather be napping, he showed some nice interest in the flirt pole and grab hold for a wee game of tug.
Hopefully look more at this next session.

Also popped him up on grooming table to handle and brush him, as this little fella might be going to be a show dog. Wanted him to feel comfortable about being touched and started to get him happy about standing on the table.

He did a lovely job overall and look forward to our next session soon.

Just putting it out there, who would be free and interested in an obstacle class Saturday morning @ 10am ?? If there is interest and I’ve got more than 3 people, happy to set it up for you to attend!!

OBSTACLE CLASS -

Murphy did so well last night. He should be a natural, right,
at jumping over things ! He had done the lower jumps but tended to jump the taller ones by kinda pushing off on them as he jumped over.

So changed it up to create momentum and he jumped them nicely !!

I think he enjoyed working his brain as well as body during class last night.

If you remember Murphy, he was also a dog that was super noisey and reactive when seeing dogs. Last night he didn’t know a single dog, he came into class with some minor whines however he did considerable well, compared to where he was some months back !

Great work by Murphy and his owner.

Been a hot minute - not quite true. It’s been many years since I’ve taken a client’s dog out for a walk. Helping out a good client who has had foot surgery, so not able to get her girl out for some time while she recovers.

I did things a little differently to how I used to walk dogs when dog walking all those years ago.

I noticed Maggie is a bit skittish and gets worked up a tad, so decided to get her to use her brain and not just do a 45min walk. Had her holding some sit/stays in Highton Village, and climbing on different things, slowing my walk to get her to pay attention to me and where I was and drop/stays closer to home. Of course she also had some free time to walk, where appropriate, on full lead but definitely not allowed to pull on it.

I believe for her this is a far better way to take her for a walk, than just a walk. She did well, she’s very clever and i just wanted to get her to settle more on her walk, keep her busy mind thinking and draining that as well as her body.

Will do more of the same over the walks we have together.

OBSTACLE CLASS -

Teddy was doing the seesaw like an absolute pro!

I’ve found over the years of holding this class, many dogs just don’t like it, particularly the drop of it as they are getting off. Teddy balanced it so beautifully.

Nice teamwork guys !!

OBSTACLE CLASS - Wednesday evening

It was great to have this class back up and running again. I was joined by a very familiar face, ‘Robbie’ and her lovely owner, old hands at the obstacles ! Then welcomed 4 newbies.

Everyone did such a great job helping their dogs over various obstacles. In fact, every dog picked things up well and showed improvement throughout the class.

It’s nice to enjoy watching owners spending time with their dogs, building on a teamwork relationship and having some fun around other owners. It also provided a controlled environment for further socialisation for all the dogs.

Can’t wait to see these owners back again and looking forward to welcoming other newbies and perhaps some more familiar faces in upcoming classes.

MANNERS CLASS - final week

It was such a lovely day weather wise for the last class on Sunday morning.

Everyone did a lovely job of passing the mat test. The dogs have come a long way from their first week learning how to station on mats around distractions. Well done to you all !

It always shows when owners put in the effort between each week of class.
