A huge thank you to our friends and colleagues at Hagon's Equine for helping us dummy train our resident polo stallion, Richmond. Their generosity, knowledge and horsemanship are unmatched in the industry.

We are planning on starting our stallion services down here in Victoria in the near future. Watch this space!

At Surf Coast Equine Reproduction we perform in-house uterine culture and sensitivities, as well as cytology. This gives us a very quick turn around time of 36 to 48 hours from taking the swab to having results and a treatment plan ready to go. No waiting for couriers to pick the sample up to take to the lab. No evening and weekend downtime. In the time crunch of the breeding season this can mean the difference between breeding at the optimal time and achieving a pregnancy or missing the perfect cycle, and possibly the entire season.

Most importantly, these tests help us choose the best treatment for each individual mare and avoid contributing to the global health threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

On the fence about breeding your mare this season?

To celebrate the completion of our new reproduction lab we are offering 25% off single mare scans at our facility along with a complimentary breeding consult for the month of September. If you then decide to sign up for one of our seasonal breeding contracts in 2026 we will deduct the price of the scan from the contract.

Triplets! But do good things really come in 3s? Or 2s? Or 4 or more? Unfortunately, not if you’re a thoroughbred who must carry your pregnancies to term. We love to see multiples in our embryo transfer mares where we can transfer each one into a different recipient. However, unlike many other species, it is very dangerous and potentially fatal for a mare to carry multiples, so in this case only one can stay. This is why it’s so important to get your vet out to perform an ultrasound 13-16 days post ovulation. This is the optimal time to deal with multiples. After this time it becomes a more invasive and potentially much more costly procedure.
