π΄β€οΈ **Jess β 25 years young and living her best life!** β€οΈπ΄
At 25 years old, Jess is roughly the equivalent of 75 in human years. She's worked hard throughout her life, and now she gets to enjoy the retirement she deserves.
I honestly couldn't love this beautiful old girl more. β€οΈ She's earned her place in the world, and my job now is to make sure her golden years are as comfortable, happy and peaceful as possible.
Jess is lucky enough to enjoy:
π΄ **Her own retirement lifestyle** β spending her days wandering around the paddock, enjoying the sunshine, eating, resting and hanging out with her foals.
π₯ **A specialised senior-horse diet** β because older girls deserve a little extra attention to keep them in the best condition possible.
𧲠**A wonderful farrier every five weeks** β to keep her specialised shoes and feet in the best possible shape.
πββοΈ **Acupuncture and chiropractic care** β with her appointments now spaced at three-monthly intervals on the recommendation of her practitioner.
π©Ί **A dedicated equine veterinarian** β Jess is under the care of Louise Crossgrove from Exclusively Equine, who knows her and helps me make the best decisions for her ongoing welfare.
π **Pain relief when she needs it** β she occasionally receives Bute, usually around once a month, to help keep her comfortable when she needs a little extra support.
Most importantly, Jess has someone who loves her enough to keep investing in her care, listen to the professionals who know her, and let her enjoy being an old horse.
Sometimes she decides that walking around is overrated, lowers herself onto the grass and has a lovely lie-down. And sometimes, after having a look around, she decides she's quite happy where she is and would rather stay there a little longer! π
Honestly, at 25, she's earned the right to be a lazy old girl!
We spend so much of our lives asking animals to work, perform, behave and do what we want. I think there's something beautiful about reaching a point where you can simply let them be themselves.
Jess doesn't need to prove anything to anyone anymore. She can wander around with her foals, eat her special food, have her treatments, enjoy the sunshine and rest whenever she feels like it.
**That's what a happy retirement should look like.** β€οΈ
I'm so grateful I get to be the person responsible for this beautiful old girl. She deserves every bit of love, care and comfort I can give her, and I'll keep doing my best to make sure her remaining years are filled with all the good things she has earned.
Here's to Jess β my beautiful black girl, 25 years young, loved to bits and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. π€π΄πΏ
**Sometimes the greatest gift we can give an old animal is the freedom to slow down, feel safe and simply enjoy being alive.** β€οΈ
