Please spread the word. Let’s help prevent unwanted litters of kittens.
The dumping of unwanted cats is a real problem in Hornsby Shire.

Sad, isn’t it?

The Keeping Cats Safe at Home Education Program was recently launched at schools across the New South Wales Northern Rivers region 🐱

Over a busy few days, the program educated over 500 students from six different schools in Byron Shire Council, Tweed Shire Council, and Kyogle Council about keeping their cats safe at home.

The education presentation taught students how to care for cats and the importance of desexing, how to keep cats safe at home, and the impacts cats have on our native wildlife. Through engaging and interactive activities, students learned about cats' unique behaviours and how to be responsible cat owners 🏡

RSPCA NSW also visited local cat rescue groups collaborating with the project including Friends of the Pound, Pets For Life Animal Shelter Billinudgel, and Animal Welfare League NSW - North Coast.

Future visits to schools in the New South Wales Northern Rivers region will be led by local councils to continue to promote the education program 📑

A BIG THANKYOU to everyone who donated blankets, towels and bedding to the Animal Welfare League.
They put the call out recently for warm blankets as winter is here and they have little souls to look after.
Kemps Creek is a long way from Mt Colah but it was great to meet the amazing staff and see all the doggies going for walks 💕

Have you taken the pledge?

Sophie Putland was a bright, passionate and dedicated young veterinarian who tragically lost her life to su***de.

Sophie’s family experienced first-hand the pain and sorrow of the mental health crisis in the vet industry and their goal is simple - they want to ensure vet staff have all the mental health support they need to reduce the incidents that contribute to this unacceptable rate of su***de.

They also want Sophie's Legacy to raise awareness and inspire meaningful change within the industry. They don’t want to see another vet’s or vet staff’s family experience the same anguish and heartbreak they have since losing their beloved Sophie. The family have launched a National Education Campaign to honour Sophie.

How can you help?
You’re helping by just being aware of the mental health issues within the veterinary industry. You can also help by keeping the following in mind when you visit the vet:

On average, every 12 weeks, a vet in Australia takes their own life.

A vet is four times more likely to take their life, compared to the general population.

Negative interactions and client abuse are major contributors to the poor mental health of vets and staff.

Take the pledge today!

✅ agree to raise any concerns about the costs of your pet’s care in a respectful manner with vet clinic staff.

✅ agree to be respectful of your vet and vet staff and be mindful of the demands they face each day.

✅ agree to share the pledge you have taken and in doing so become an advocate for better mental health for vets and vet staff across Australia

TAKE THE PLEDGE, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. 👉 https://sophieslegacy.com/campaigns/only-human
