Happy Friday everyone, and Happiest of Birthdays to darling miniature schnauzer, Pepper!! 🎉🎈 Not my first choice of a birthday outing, but Pepper visited our Mount Barker/Totness clinic today for a dental and had a whopping 10 teeth removed! Rest assured though, she still has a beautiful smile - just like nurse Shannyn! As part of her recovery she will be having some nice soft food for the next couple of days .... perhaps something like birthday cake? 🤔 🎂

Happy Friday everyone! Today happens to be a very important day in the veterinary world…. 🩺🐾Vet Nurse Day!! 🐾🩺
We are thrilled to announce that one of our absolute powerhouse nurses, Saskia has just been awarded Greencross South Australian Veterinary Nurse of the Year for 2026, as well as Greencross Veterinary Nurse Day Winner! 🏆 We could not be more proud.

Vet nurses are who you first see when you arrive at the clinic and who answer the phone when you call, but did you also know that vet nurses are responsible for your pet’s anaesthetic when they are having surgery? 😷. They are also take and run blood samples, prepare cytology slides and take xrays to help the vets with diagnosis 💉 🔬 🩻.
They are triage nurses; quickly assessing potential emergencies and stabilising critical patients. They also calculate drug and fluid rates, administer medications, look after unwell hospital patients, and much more!!
Today we take the time to thank all of our highly skilled and dedicated nurses for their hard work and the endless love they put into the job 🫶
If you have any positive experiences with our nurses at Greencross Wellington Road and Greencross Mount Barker that have made an impact with your family over the years, please share below!

Beautiful Winnie visited our Greencross Vets - Mount Barker clinic today for her desexing surgery 🩷 she was such a brave little girl and even has the certificate to prove it! Spey surgery is only a day procedure so she is already home with her Mum enjoying lots of naps and cuddles.

Desexing your dogs and cats is highly recommended for a number of health, behavioural, and community benefits. In female pets, desexing eliminates the chances of diseases like pyometra (an infection of the uterus requiring emergency surgery), eliminates ovarian and uterine cancers, and greatly decreases the risk of the development of mammary tumours. It also stops heat cycles, and of course prevents unwanted pregnancies.

If you have a dog or cat that you are wanting to get desexed and have any questions about the procedure and its benefits, or would like to enquire about booking, please don't hesitate to give Greencross Mount Barker or Greencross Wellington Road a call and we will be happy to talk you through the process.

✨Possum Magic!✨
Nothing says "Spring is here" quite like the arrival of baby possums! This is a beautiful female ringtail weighing in at a tiny 125g who was brought in by a very kind member of the public after being found separated from her mum. She was checked over by Dr Gabi at our Mount Barker clinic in Totness, was found to be in perfect health, and wildlife carer through our friends at Save Our Wildlife Foundation Inc (SOWFI) then came to collect her so that she can be looked after until she is old enough to be released.
(Bonus cute photos to be found in the comments! Happy Friday everyone and enjoy your long weekend!)

Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

Read Dr Nina’s advice and the full Better Homes & Gardens article at:

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

Check out this little cutie patootie who visited us for her 2nd puppy vaccination last week 😍

Ducky is a 14 week old Labrador puppy who was the bravest little girl for her jab (treats always help!) She is also completely adorable 🐕

Puppies require a course of three vaccinations 💉💉💉 around a month apart from 8 weeks old in order to strengthen their immune systems against diseases such as Distemper, Hepatitis, Kennel Cough, and Parvovirus. They will then require yearly boosters after this initial course to ensure they remain up to date. This way if they are ever exposed to these diseases, their bodies will know what to do in order to protect itself!

If you are considering welcoming a new puppy into your family and have questions about what to expect or prepare for, the staff at Greencross Wellington Road and Greencross Mount Barker are always happy to help! 🐾

*"Wait, has Greencross Wellington Road relocated?! Have they closed?!"*

Not quite! Let us explain...

Greencross Vets have grown so big in Mount Barker we have had to open a second clinic! The Wellington Road clinic you already know and love will continue to operate Monday to Friday, but now we also have a brand new, purpose-built additional site in Totness right next to the new Petbarn open Monday to Friday, as well as Saturday mornings.

*"Is it all new staff in the Mount Barker clinic?"*

Nope! Still us! When you visit the new site you will see plenty of familiar faces from Wellington Road.

*"This is confusing - you're called Greencross Mount Barker but are technically based in Totness? What is up with that?"*

We know, it'll take a bit of getting used to. Especially when Welly Road IS in Mount Barker too! Want to hear something funny? Some of the online maps think we're in Hahndorf🤦‍♀️. To keep things as least confusing as possible we will always refer to the clinics as "Greencross Wellington Road" and "Greencross Mount Barker" (.... even if our address in Totness). What you can also do is think about our streetnames: Greencross Wellington Road is on Wellington Road, and Greencross Mount Barker is on Mount Barker Road.

*"Do I need to re-register my pets if I want to visit the Mount Barker clinic?"*

Not at all. All of our records are the same and you will not have to re-register as a new client to see us at the new clinic, all you need to do is book an appointment.

*"Help! I'm not sure which clinic my appointment is at"*

Not a problem! If you've made an appointment and have forgotten or aren't sure exactly where you're supposed to be, just give either of our clinics a call and we can let you know where your appointment is.

Two joyful pups came in today,
With wagging tails and time to play.

One snowy white, one Aussie bright,
Both 16 weeks and pure delight.

A cuddle here, a treat or two,
A health check done, and off they flew!

Growing fast and stealing hearts,
These precious pups are works of art. 🐾🤍

Charlie and Rosco were too cute not to share.
