Barker Behaviour and Training Miriam Ahrens, owner and head trainer has been involved in Dog Training, competing, Showing and Breeding for over 25 years.

he Karen Pryor Dog Trainer Professional and as a member of the Karen Pryor and Absolute Dogs Training Academies, Miriam brings a variety of both positive reinforcement, clicker and games based teaching methods to Barker Behaviour and Training. Miriam is supported by Sue Arwen who is currently competing in Obedience, Agility and show with her dogs and is undertaking a Certificate IV in Animal Companion through the Delta Institute and the Absolute Dogs Pro Trainer course. There are strong links to Mt Barker Veterinary Clinic and the program has the support of Dr Digby Ambrose through his Veterinary Behaviour practice.

Another fun day with agility! This week, we added in the tyre and a moving see-saw as demonstrated beautifully by Pumkin. We are also still sharpening skills such as jumps and the weave. It has been so fun so far, can't wait to keep building these skills!

Welcome to fun Fridays! We have just started a fresh class of agility where all dogs and owners are really starting to get in the groove of completing obstacles. We have Poppy completing her first run over the see-saw top. Willow doing wonderfully completing all 4 of the jumps. Frankie doing an excellent weave through the poles and little Pumkin doing great over the jumps and into the tunnel. Its been a great start so far with more to come!

Here is Baxter Wouters, Belle Ide, Pepper Heath and Harvey Morgan one of our graduating classes of Puppy Primary, showing their loose leash skills while walking around and past other dogs. So lovely to see the handlers with a nice loose leads and hands to their waist and having the focus of their dogs. They have come so far with their handling and clicker timing. We have loved seeing the increase in the bond between owners and their dogs, while all learning new skills together. If you want to learn this with your dog we have a new Puppy Primary class starting next Sunday 24th of May at 10.30am.

On Sunday the 10th of May we were happy to have two of our Puppy Preschool puppies graduate. We had the cute Dug the French Bulldog and the handsome Bunji the Rhodesian Ridgeback. They are besties and it was lovely to see them play so well despite the size difference. It is easy to guess tug is their favourite game together.

Well I can’t believe a third of the year has flown past already. Barker Behaviour hit the ground running not only with new classes and private consults but also welcoming our new trainer onboard Cassie Pitman.
Cassie has a bachelor in Animal Science, a Cert 3 in Dog Training and is doing a traineeship with us. She has a 12 month old Jack Russel called Chester who is the love of her life and who is teaching her a lot.
Cassie held the fort for me along with William while I was away overseas at the beginning of this year ticking off some of Dr Digby and my bucket list.
Cassie will also be helping me with the page so you will hopefully start to see more of what is happening at Barker Behaviour. If you haven’t already meet Cassie please make her welcome.🐕🙋‍♀️

Just a reminder to all class members, NO classes this long weekend as Dr Digby, Myself and our trainee trainer Cassie are all attending the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) conference being held this weekend. Be prepared to hear about all the exciting new research and ideas being presented over the weekend form leading experts from various fields including Veterinary Behaviourists to researchers and trainers. Classes as per usual next weekend.🤩
