With those gorgeous ears, sweet little face and plenty of puppy charm, it’s safe to say Rusty had no trouble winning over the team!

🐾 Happy International Veterinary Nurse Day! 🤍

Today, we’re celebrating our incredible nursing team. From the early mornings and late nights to the cuddles, chaos, laughter and everything in between.

Our nurses are the heart of Morpeth Veterinary Hospital, and while so much of what they do happens behind the scenes, their contribution never goes unnoticed.

We thought there was no better way to celebrate than to share a few of our favourite moments behind the scenes, along with some words of appreciation from the vets who work alongside them every day.

To our nurses — thank you for your compassion, dedication, humour, patience and the countless little things you do that make such a big difference.

We couldn’t do what we do without you, and we certainly wouldn’t have nearly as much fun doing it!

Dr Kyle’s been putting his pedicure skills to work… 🐮💅

This patient received a hoof block as part of her treatment to help take the pressure off a sore or damaged claw.

Cattle carry a significant amount of weight through their feet, so when one claw is injured, bruised or affected by conditions such as a sole ulcer or abscess, every step can be uncomfortable. A hoof block is attached to the healthy claw, raising the affected claw slightly off the ground and allowing it time to rest and heal.

Think of it as a little temporary platform shoe with a very practical purpose!
From hoof care to herd health, it’s all part of a day’s work in mixed practice.

Some nights are worth losing a little sleep for.

Dr Scott and Dr Gemma were called out overnight to assist with a foaling, and we’re very happy to share that it resulted in a successful delivery and a beautiful new arrival.

It’s moments like these that remind us just how much we love being a mixed animal practice. From puppies and kittens in the clinic to horses, cattle and everything in between, no two days — or nights — are ever quite the same.

For our existing clients, our veterinary team is available 24/7 for emergencies, because we know animals don’t always choose business hours when the unexpected happens.

A wonderful outcome for mum and foal, and a pretty special way to spend the night. 🐴✨

Meet Penelope 🤍🐴

This little fighter came into our care after tragically becoming orphaned during birth.

With such a difficult start to life, Penelope needed plenty of support from the very beginning. She received plasma and was initially tube fed while our team worked around the clock to give her the best possible chance.

And fight she did.

Slowly but surely, Penelope grew stronger, reached the very important milestone of suckling on her own and, best of all, was successfully adopted by a new mum. 🤍

From such a heartbreaking beginning to seeing her settled, feeding and being cared for by her adoptive mare these are the moments that make mixed-practice veterinary medicine so incredibly rewarding.

We’re all cheering you on, little Penelope. We can confirm plenty of cuddles and love were given during her care. What a start to life, and what a fighter. 🐴

After five incredible years of service as canine blood donors, Tyson and Loki are officially hanging up their donor capes and heading into a very well-earned retirement.

Over the years, their blood donations have been there when other dogs needed them most helping our team provide lifesaving care in emergencies and giving patients and their families hope during some of their toughest moments.

So, of course, a simple “thank you” wasn’t quite enough. To mark their retirement and celebrate everything they’ve done, our team gave Tyson and Loki a proper send-off with a staff guard of honour, plenty of love and a retirement cake.

To Tyson and Loki — thank you for five years of quietly helping save lives. And to their wonderful owners Nurse Tayla and Dr Scott thank you for allowing them to be part of something so special. We are incredibly grateful. ❤️

🐴 UPCOMING LARGE ANIMAL RUNS + HOME VISITS 🐄🐾

We are back on the road in October with our Large Animal run dates and locations now available. Dr Bas will be on the road for Equine Dentals and Dr Kyle will be available for our livestock visits.

While we’re on the road, we’re extending our service a little further.
If you are a client who lives within one of our scheduled Large Animal Run areas, we can also offer routine home visits for your small animals while our vets are nearby for routine visits.

Whether your horse is due for dental care, your cattle need a visit, or you need to have your dog or cat seen at home, give our team a call to see how we can help or to book in.

When your puppy needles come with so many cuddles and attention that you need a nap afterwards…

Little Chuck came in to see Dr Scott for his puppy vaccinations, but we’re not sure he realised he was at the vet! Between cuddles with the team, plenty of fuss and making new friends, he had a very busy visit.

By the end, all that excitement had caught up with him and it was officially nap time.

Safe to say, Chuck can come back for cuddles anytime!

Knowing what’s normal during the different stages of labour can make all the difference when calving season is underway.

Most cows will progress through labour without assistance, but recognising when things aren’t moving as expected means you can step in or call us at the right time.
