💛 Feeling incredibly fortunate for the families who trust us with their beloved pets. 💛

Every now and then, a moment comes along that reminds you just how incredibly special veterinary medicine can be.

Recently, one of our beautiful clients brought the team a little gift of chocolates, along with the most heartfelt card and precious photos of their beloved dog, who had been such an important part of their family for many years. 🐾💔

Their message of thanks — for the care we had given not only to their dog, but to them throughout the years — genuinely touched all of us.

They spoke about how grateful they were for the support, compassion and care they had received from our team. And while we never do what we do expecting anything in return, moments like this mean more than people probably realise. ❤️

As a member of this team, one of the things that makes me proudest is seeing the incredible stewardship our team shows towards every single patient who walks through our doors.

It’s not just about treating illness.

It’s about knowing our patients.
It’s about understanding their individual needs.
It’s about advocating for their health, comfort and wellbeing.
It’s about supporting their families through the happy moments, the difficult moments and everything in between.

And, above all, it’s about living and breathing Fear Free care — with every patient, every day. 🐶🐱💛

Fear Free isn't simply something we do at Beleura Veterinary Hospital. It’s part of our DNA. It’s woven into the way we approach our patients, the way we handle them, the way we communicate with their families and the way we care.

Nothing makes me prouder than watching our team consistently show that level of compassion, empathy and dedication.

To all of our wonderful clients who trust us with the animals they love so deeply — thank you. Thank you for allowing us to be part of their lives, for trusting us with their care, and for reminding us just how meaningful the work we do really is.

We feel incredibly lucky to have you. 🥹💛

And to our beautiful team — thank you for caring as deeply as you do. Our patients are lucky to have you. 🐾

H5 BIRD FLU

As im sure you are already aware, Australia now has confirmed mainland detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5 bird flu) in wild seabirds in Western Australia & South Australia.

H5 Bird flu is Zoonotic and can transfer to humans although the risk is Low. Transfer to other mammals is possible so KEEP your dogs on leads and cats indoors to reduce the risk of them coming in contact with Infected bird or other wildlife.

At this stage there have been NO detections in Victoria. However, if you notice multiple sick or dead birds or other animals: Here is what to do.

DO NOT BRING SICK OR DEAD BIRDS INTO THE PRACTICE

FOR WILD BIRDS - AVOID contact, RECORD what you see, and REPORT it to the Emergency Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

FOR POULTRY OWNERS & BIRD KEEPERS – call us for further instruction

• Keep feed and water away from wild birds
• Avoid contact between poultry and wild waterbirds
• Quarantine new birds before introducing them to your flock
• Wash footwear and equipment before entering bird areas

Today, on World Vet Day, we pause to recognise the incredible humans behind the medicine, compassion, and care.

To our vets — thank you. Thank you for the long hours, the difficult decisions, and the quiet strength you show every single day. Thank you for celebrating the wins with our clients, and for standing beside them during the hardest goodbyes. Your ability to carry both joy and heartbreak, often in the same moment, is nothing short of extraordinary.

You are advocates, problem-solvers, comforters, and lifesavers — not just for the animals in your care, but for the people who love them. The impact you have reaches far beyond our clinic walls.

From your Nursing colleagues, we feel so grateful to work alongside such a dedicated, compassionate, and talented vet team. Today is about recognising you — but the truth is, we appreciate you every single day.

Happy World Vet Day to Liz, Lauren, Kat, Jemma & Adam

AND to our regular Locum Vets who allow our precious vet team to take a break - Dr Kim Benning, Dr Andrew Tresize & Dr Lisa Elsner🐾

Anzac Day Closure Announcement & Honouring our Animal Heros

Today, we pause to honour the incredible animals who served alongside our soldiers—the unsung heroes of the ANZAC story.

From loyal dogs who carried messages, detected danger, and stood bravely beside their handlers… to powerful horses who transported troops and supplies across unforgiving terrain… to homing pigeons who delivered critical communications when all else failed… these animals played vital roles in times of conflict.

We also remember the often-overlooked cats who served aboard naval ships—providing essential rodent control to protect food supplies, and offering comfort and companionship to sailors far from home.

Their service was marked by courage, resilience, and unwavering loyalty.

Following on from a recent post about the mobile diagnostic services we offer in clinic, we also work closely with another fantastic visiting specialist service — Melbourne Animal Referral Service.

Through this collaboration, we’re able to bring specialist veterinary expertise directly into our clinic, allowing many pets to receive advanced care without needing to travel to a large referral hospital.

This means your pet can remain in the clinic they already know, surrounded by the veterinary team they trust. Staying in a familiar environment can significantly reduce stress for our patients and allows us to stay closely involved in their care every step of the way.

Melbourne Animal Referral Service provides specialist consultations and advanced procedures on-site, supporting us with more complex medical and surgical cases while keeping your pet’s care team consistent.

For our clients, this also means greater convenience — fewer trips to unfamiliar clinics, less travel time, and access to specialist-level care right here at your local vet.

By working with trusted mobile specialist services, we’re able to combine the comfort and continuity of your regular vet clinic with the expertise of referral-level care — all in one place. 🐾
