🛁🐾 A LUXURIOUS DIY HYDROBATH… ONE VERY HAPPY SAINT BERNARD! 🐾🛁

We recently had a VERY special guest come in to enjoy a little pampering in our DIY Hydrobath… and let’s just say, he certainly made an impression! 😍

Meet this HUGE, handsome 2.5-year-old Saint Bernard called SARGE! 🐶 At Beleura Vet, we simply couldn’t resist sneaking away for a little cuddle and a happy snap while he enjoyed his luxurious spa treatment. And judging by that face… we think he was pretty happy with the arrangement too! 🥹💤❤️

🐾 A little Saint Bernard history!

🏔️ Mountain rescue legends! Saint Bernards originated in the Swiss Alps, where monks at the Great St Bernard Hospice bred them to help locate and rescue travellers lost in dangerous, snowy mountain passes.

🐕 Big dogs, bigger hearts! Despite their enormous size, these gentle giants are famous for their affectionate, patient and friendly nature. They were bred to be strong working dogs, but many are just as happy being giant cuddle bugs!

❄️ Built for the cold! Their thick coats helped protect them in harsh alpine conditions. All that glorious fur also means they can need a little extra grooming to keep their coats clean and comfortable, especially when shedding season rolls around.

📏 And those BIG paws! Saint Bernards are one of the giant dog breeds, with adult males often weighing around 64–82 kg or more. At just 2.5 years old, our handsome visitor is already an impressive sight!

🐶🐱 Running low on your pet’s medication? We kindly ask that you give us AT LEAST 48 HOURS’ NOTICE when requesting repeat medications or prescription refills.

⏰ Please contact us at least TWO DAYS before you need to collect your pet’s medication. This gives our team enough time to review, prepare and organise your request.

📞 Call us on 5976 4244 or 📧 email [email protected] with the name of the medication your pet needs, and we’ll take it from there!

❤️ We know life gets busy, and we really appreciate your help in planning ahead so we can keep your pet’s care running smoothly.

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible team of vet nurses who are the heart and soul of our hospital! 🩺🐶🐱

From the cuddles, comfort and gentle reassurance, to the anaesthetics, monitoring, nursing care, endless cleaning, teamwork and all the little things that often go unseen — our nurses are involved in every part of what makes exceptional patient care possible. 🩵

They’re there for our patients on their best days and their hardest days, advocating for those who can’t speak for themselves, supporting our vets, reassuring worried families and going above and beyond to make every patient feel safe, loved and cared for.

Their knowledge, compassion, dedication and willingness to give so much of themselves make an INVALUABLE difference to our patients, our clients and our entire team. 🐾

✨ THREE MEMBERS. ONE INCREDIBLY SPECIAL TEAM. ✨

We are feeling VERY lucky to have three veterinarians with Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) Memberships working under the one roof at Beleura Veterinary Hospital! 🥹🐾

That’s right — 3 out of our 5 veterinarians have undertaken the additional study and examination required to achieve Membership in their chosen area of special interest.

💙 Dr Liz Kenny — Membership in Internal Medicine
💙 Dr Katrina Couttie — Membership in Internal Medicine
💙 Dr Lauren Fahler — Membership in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia

And Dr Lauren has only recently achieved her Membership, making this an especially exciting achievement for our team! 🎉

So, what does “Membership” actually mean?

The Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) is the professional body that provides postgraduate education, examination and specialist pathways across a wide range of veterinary disciplines.

A Membership is a postgraduate qualification that demonstrates a veterinarian has developed a high level of knowledge and expertise in a particular area of veterinary science.

It is not something that happens simply by attending a few courses or completing a weekend of study.

It takes years of dedication, ongoing learning, extensive preparation and a significant examination process to achieve. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements and undertake rigorous College examinations in their chosen discipline.

For our team, these achievements represent something much bigger than letters after a name.

They represent years of reading, studying, learning, questioning, challenging themselves and continuing to grow as veterinarians.

And ultimately, that knowledge comes back to where it matters most…

Having this depth of knowledge within our own hospital means our team can draw on an incredible breadth of expertise when managing complex cases — from challenging internal medicine patients through to sophisticated anaesthesia and pain management.

It is something we are exceptionally proud of.

💛 Feeling incredibly fortunate for the families who trust us with their beloved pets. 💛

Every now and then, a moment comes along that reminds you just how incredibly special veterinary medicine can be.

Recently, one of our beautiful clients brought the team a little gift of chocolates, along with the most heartfelt card and precious photos of their beloved dog, who had been such an important part of their family for many years. 🐾💔

Their message of thanks — for the care we had given not only to their dog, but to them throughout the years — genuinely touched all of us.

They spoke about how grateful they were for the support, compassion and care they had received from our team. And while we never do what we do expecting anything in return, moments like this mean more than people probably realise. ❤️

As a member of this team, one of the things that makes me proudest is seeing the incredible stewardship our team shows towards every single patient who walks through our doors.

It’s not just about treating illness.

It’s about knowing our patients.
It’s about understanding their individual needs.
It’s about advocating for their health, comfort and wellbeing.
It’s about supporting their families through the happy moments, the difficult moments and everything in between.

And, above all, it’s about living and breathing Fear Free care — with every patient, every day. 🐶🐱💛

H5 BIRD FLU

As im sure you are already aware, Australia now has confirmed mainland detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5 bird flu) in wild seabirds in Western Australia & South Australia.

H5 Bird flu is Zoonotic and can transfer to humans although the risk is Low. Transfer to other mammals is possible so KEEP your dogs on leads and cats indoors to reduce the risk of them coming in contact with Infected bird or other wildlife.

At this stage there have been NO detections in Victoria. However, if you notice multiple sick or dead birds or other animals: Here is what to do.

DO NOT BRING SICK OR DEAD BIRDS INTO THE PRACTICE

FOR WILD BIRDS - AVOID contact, RECORD what you see, and REPORT it to the Emergency Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

FOR POULTRY OWNERS & BIRD KEEPERS – call us for further instruction

• Keep feed and water away from wild birds
• Avoid contact between poultry and wild waterbirds
• Quarantine new birds before introducing them to your flock
• Wash footwear and equipment before entering bird areas
