โ๏ธ๐พ FIRST DAY OF WINTER = DOGTOR DAY ๐พโ๏ธ
It was a cold and early start this morning for two of our NSWBTR Retire-A-Bulls, Toothless Tigger ๐ฏ Tully and her bestie Miss Piggy ๐ฆ๐
๐
7:30am DOGtor appointment for both girls with DOGtor Signe.
First up was Tully's post-dental check-up following the removal of a whopping 17 teeth ๐ฆท๐คฏ๐ข
For those keeping score at home, Tully lost:
๐ฆท 3 canine teeth
๐ฆท All of her lower incisors
๐ฆท 8 molars
The good news? ๐
DOGtor Signe is very happy with her progress and overall she is healing beautifully. The only concern is the flap where her upper right canine was removed. It isn't closing quite as well as hoped, so we now need to be extra careful that food doesn't become trapped underneath it.
๐
Tully will head back for another recheck this Friday.
Apart from that, our little Toothless Tigger is doing amazingly well and continues to steal hearts everywhere she goes ๐ฅน๐
Now... onto Miss Piggy ๐ฆ
Recently we started noticing some subtle changes with Piggy. She would occasionally be reluctant to weight bear on her right hind leg and at times would yelp when getting up. More recently she has seemed less keen to move around, so we felt it was time to have things checked out.
As foster carers, those little changes immediately get our attention.
Thankfully, because of the incredible support shown to rescue, we were able to say YES to a veterinary appointment without hesitation.
And this is exactly why fundraising and ongoing support are so important.
Rescue never knows what's around the corner. One day it's a dental surgery, the next it's an unexpected illness, injury or emergency. Having funds available means we don't have to stop and ask, "Can we afford this?" We can simply say:
๐ "Yes, let's get them seen."
DOGtor Signe suspects Miss Piggy is developing some arthritis in her legs ๐ข
She also detected some swelling around Piggy's knee in the area of the cruciate ligament. Unfortunately, Piggy was quite uncomfortable and a full assessment of the joint wasn't possible without causing her pain.
For now, Piggy will start pain relief and we'll monitor how she responds ๐ฅฐ
As she is also due for a dental, our plan is to organise x-rays at the same time so we can get a complete picture of exactly what's happening with her knee and determine the best path forward.
For now, that dental will need to wait until rescue finances allow us to move ahead.
So today was a day of mixed emotions...
๐ Celebrating Tully's successful recovery and brighter future
๐ Beginning the journey to understand what's happening with Miss Piggy's leg
๐ Being grateful that because of our amazing supporters, rescue can continue saying YES when our dogs need us most
Thank you for standing beside rescue and loving these precious retirees as much as we do ๐พ๐
