Something NEW is coming to Legacy of the Horse 2027, and we couldn't be more excited to introduce the latest addition to our event program!
We've all watched the incredible journey of a young horse being started for the very first time. We've witnessed the trust being built, the first steps under saddle and the foundations being laid.
But have you ever wondered what happens next?
Well, we're about to find out!
For the first time, Legacy of the Horse will welcome back THREE former colt-starting trainers and THREE Woodstock Paint Horses fillies for an entirely new competition β THE NEXT STEP!

We're thrilled to welcome back three talented horsemen and horsewomen who are no strangers to the colt-starting arena!

Each brings their own style, experience and approach to horsemanship, and we cannot wait to see what they bring to this new challenge!
SO, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
Three fillies that have previously participated in a colt-starting competition will return from Woodstock Paint Horses.
Since their original starts, these fillies have had no further formal training. They've simply been allowed to mature and enjoy life at Woodstock, where they are being retained as future broodmares.
Now, they're returning to the Legacy arena for the next chapter of their journey!
But here's where things get interesting...
Our returning trainers will NOT be working with the same horses they originally started!
Instead, each trainer will draw a filly whose initial foundations were established by another trainer.
They'll be challenged to discover what the horse remembers, recognise the education already in place and decide how best to develop that horse further.
Before Legacy, each trainer will have two supervised training sessions with their drawn filly at Woodstock Paint Horses.
Then, at Legacy of the Horse 2027, they'll step into the arena for THREE live competition sessions, culminating in THE NEXT STEP FINAL!
π A COMPETITION WITH A DIFFERENCE!
This is still very much a competition, but it isn't simply about who can achieve the most or produce the most advanced horse.
Our judges will be looking at the trainer's ability to read their horse, recognise existing foundations, build confidence, make good decisions and demonstrate meaningful progression.
Because great horsemanship isn't always about how far you get.
It's about knowing what the horse needs and how best to get there.
We are incredibly excited to bring this new dimension of horsemanship to Legacy of the Horse, and we can't wait for you to follow the journey of these three trainers and three very special Woodstock fillies.
