🐴 Stretching can be a simple but valuable way to support your horse’s comfort, mobility, and overall movement.

Shoulder stretches may help horses that feel stiff through the front end, struggle with range of motion, or carry tension through the shoulders and chest. Improving flexibility in this area can support freer, more comfortable movement and help horses move more evenly through their body.

These types of stretches can be especially beneficial for horses in regular work, horses returning to work, older horses, or those carrying muscular tension.

As always - stretches should be done gently, correctly, and with awareness of your horse’s comfort and response.

🐴 Hamstring stretches can help relieve muscular tension, improve flexibility, and support better movement through the hindquarters.

Tightness through the hamstrings can sometimes contribute to shortened strides, stiffness, resistance, difficulty engaging properly, or general discomfort through movement and work.

By carefully stretching and lengthening these muscles, we can help horses stay more comfortable, supple, balanced, and freer in their movement.

These types of stretches can be especially beneficial for horses in regular work, horses building strength, older horses, or those that tend to hold tension through the hindquarters.

Just like us, horses can benefit from regular stretching and mobility work too 🤍

🐴 EquiTips

If you’re not attaching your saddle blanket straps to the girth, it’s a good idea to tuck them away neatly rather than leaving them hanging loose.

Loose or twisted straps can rub against the horse as they move - creating irritation over time.

Sometimes it’s the small details that make the biggest difference to comfort.

A bit like walking around all day with a twisted sock in your shoe.

Just because we feel cold…
doesn’t always mean our horses do too ❄️

Horses are naturally designed to regulate temperature far better than we often realise.

With a healthy winter coat, access to forage, movement, and shelter, many horses cope extremely well in cooler weather and in some cases, can actually become too warm from over-rugging.

That doesn’t mean rugs are wrong.
Many horses genuinely benefit from them, especially:
▫️ Clipped horses
▫️ Older horses
▫️ Underweight horses
▫️ Horses in wet, windy conditions
▫️ Horses needing extra support

But it’s always worth asking:
✨ What does THIS horse need?

The goal isn’t simply to keep a horse warm.
It’s to keep them comfortable, able to regulate naturally, and supported as an individual.

Because good horse care starts with observation - not assumption.

Made to Order - Black Country Custom Made Saddles

These saddles aren’t chosen just for appearance or style.

They are made to fit the individual horse , because comfort plays a huge role in how a horse moves, feels, and performs under saddle.

Measurements are taken to understand the horse’s shape and muscle development, as well as the type of riding the saddle is needed for.

A jumping saddle, dressage saddle, and general-purpose saddle are all designed differently because they support different movement and rider positions.

When a saddle fits correctly, the horse can move more freely, build strength more effectively, and work with the rider instead of compensating against discomfort.

For us, this is part of a more collaborative and holistic approach to horse care.

A comfortable horse is often a happier, more willing horse - and that changes the whole partnership.

✨ Red light therapy in action ✨

I’m currently using red light therapy on this pony to help support recovery from muscle damage and soreness caused by an ill-fitting saddle.

Red light therapy may help:
* support circulation
* encourage muscle recovery
* reduce stiffness and discomfort
* assist the body’s natural healing process

When horses experience ongoing pressure or restriction, the body often compensates and recovery takes time.

This is one of the ways we help support comfort, movement, and overall wellbeing as part of a holistic approach to horse care.

Follow along for more ways we use red light therapy.

A comfortable horse is a happy horse.🐴

A consistent sweat pattern usually shows even contact, but when the horse’s back stays dry under the saddle, it can indicate reduced heat build-up and improved airflow.

In this case, you can see the difference clearly with sweat only visible around the girth area, and the back remaining dry.

The Bamboo Equestrian saddle blankets are designed to help with breathability, moisture control, and overall comfort for the horse.

Small changes in materials can make a noticeable difference to how the horse feels during and after work.

These are currently available from Bamboo Textiles at Topp Dogg in Moora (on special).

Comfort matters - in every layer.
