🐾 IMPORTANT NEW POLICY — PLEASE READ! 🐾
Over the past 3 weeks, we have been absolutely inundated with matted dogs. Unfortunately, this is something we see every year as we transition from the cooler months into warmer weather.
A large number of these dogs have been booked in for hygiene grooms rather than full grooms, often with requests to “keep the coat as long as possible”.
The reality is that when a coat is heavily matted, this is not possible. Attempting to preserve a matted coat can cause significant discomfort and pain for the dog. We are far too ethical to put a dog through this simply for their appearance.
It also puts our groomers under enormous pressure when a booking has been allocated a certain amount of time but requires hours of additional dematting. This has resulted in our team working late, feeling frustrated, and not having the calm working environment we pride ourselves on.
✂️ OUR NEW HYGIENE GROOM POLICY
From now on, hygiene groom bookings will only be available to dogs who:
• Have been groomed at our salon within the previous 5 weeks
• Arrive completely mat-free
• Are being regularly maintained at home or;
• Already have a short coat that doesn't require full clips
We are happy to change to a hygeine groom once the coat has been checked on or before arrival.
For dogs kept in longer coats, regular brushing is essential. This means line brushing the entire body with a slicker brush, followed by a thorough check with a metal comb. Simply running a brush over the surface of the coat is not enough to prevent matting underneath.
If your dog is tightly matted, we will only offer a shorter clip. This decision is made with your dog's comfort and welfare as our priority. I promise they do not care how they look, and you can purchase a jumper if you are concerned about them being cold.
We have spent a significant amount of time over the past few weeks explaining coat maintenance, brushing techniques and why certain grooming requests simply aren't possible when a coat is matted. Unfortunately, with how busy our salon is, we are struggling to allocate this additional time to educating owners at every appointment.
