October 15th is National Pug Day! 🐾💖

The day was established in 2012 to raise awareness about the breed, encouraging people to adopt pugs from shelters and rescue groups.

Did you know a group of pugs is called a ‘grumble’?

Pictured is nurse Kylie’s own grumble of lovely adopted pugs. Share a photo of your pug in the comments 💖🐾

The lovely Kitty Kat came in for an ear resection surgery to remove skin cancer from the tips of her ears.

Squamous cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that commonly affects white cats in areas with little hair and high sun exposure, like the tips of the ears. It looks like small scabs that don’t go away.

Kitty Kat recovered well from her anaesthetic, and was back to her smoochy self almost immediately 🐱💕

🧼 Behind the scenes: preparing our surgical kits 🩺

Each instrument is scrubbed, dried, and double wrapped into a surgical kit before going into the steriliser. Colour-changing indicators are used to ensure the appropriate temperature has been reached.

The kit is then opened aseptically and used by the vet in surgery, and the whole process is repeated again, with love, by our nurses! 🩺

Kiera and Lexi came in for their routine Pentosan injection 🐾🐶

Pentosan is a fantastic monthly treatment which improves joint lubrication and reduces inflammation in our patients with osteoarthritis, helping them stay active and comfortable.

The Pentosan course involves a loading dose of 4 injections one week apart, and then monthly injections for ongoing maintenance.

If your pet is slow to stand up in the mornings, hesitant to jump on/off furniture, and less keen for walks than they used to be, Pentosan might be a great addition for them.

🎉 Happy Vet Nurse Day! 🎉🩺

Today we celebrate our incredible team of nurses and receptionists, and recognise everything they do for our patients, clients and the vets.

From monitoring anaesthetics and assisting with surgery, caring for hospitalised patients, running diagnostics and administering medications, to building relationships with their regulars in nurse consults 🐱🐶

We sent the nurses out for lunch to celebrate, meanwhile the vets tried their hand at nursing and reception to keep things running! 👏🏼

Meet gorgeous Lily 🐱

Lily came in for desexing and we couldn’t get over how relaxed she was. Her owner showed us photos of her chilling at the cafe, and even riding in a custom cat carrier on their motorbike! Nothing phases her 💕

Vincent is summer ready and living his best life now that his allergies are under control! ☀️🏖️

Vinnie had some itchy skin lesions around his legs, chest, and abdomen. A very common issue at this time of year as the weather warms up, the plants are blooming, exposure to grasses and pollen is increased.

Environmental allergies may look like:

• Constant scratching
• Licking or chewing their paws
• Red, irritated skin lesions
• Recurrent ear infections

Managing environmental allergies is about finding a long-term plan that works for your dog. This may include regular bathing with a medicated shampoo, treating secondary skin or ear infections, reducing exposure to known triggers, and medications to control the itch and inflammation as needed.

If your dog shows any of the above signs, now is the time to get on top of it ☀️🌾🌾

🍫 Meet Hunter the sweet tooth 🍫

Hunter thought it was his lucky day, polishing off almost this entire block of dark chocolate!
His owners called for advice and brought him straight in to induce vomiting.

The risk of chocolate toxicity depends on the type and amount of chocolate eaten. Inducing vomiting works best when it’s done as soon as possible after eating the chocolate, and if they already have food in their belly this helps to bring it up too.

If your dog eats something potentially toxic, please give us a call so we can assess the risk and advise on next steps.

Meet Snow, the most beautiful white cat you ever did see! 💙💚
Snow came to see us for a urinary tract infection and went home with some medications to help with this. He was so confident and chilled in the consult room, he made himself right at home.
