Please give a warm country-bumpkin-welcome to Billy, our local Mareema-Sheepdawg Farm-Boi! Billy paid a rare visit to The Dogtor, aka Dr Keith, for ‘vet stuff’.

To be honest, Billy doesn’t really like leaving The Paddock (his ) and ‘going to town’ in fact, we think no Maremmas like leaving their country-lot... Being the Guardians of The Livestock, they’re not exactly ‘lap dogs in a tote’ variety of canine. But you did it Billy!!! And well-done. Billy went home with his own

He was 150% brave-under-sedation. Mighty! Effort! Billy!!! And looking at this lovely pic of him, isn’t he just the most handsome dog?

Please join us at in sending Billy home-sweet-home to his favourite Paddock with our biggest, warmest, most loving waves of healing pats, Wingecarribee’s own Ultimas-Maximus-Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdawggio Billy... Arriverdeci & Woof-Woof!!!

About Medway & their Hall

Medway is a rural Highlands hamlet just off the Hume Highway, south of Mittagong. The 140+ strong community was established as a mining town in 1927 — and like any proper Aussie village, it got its very own hall in 1950. That hall has served the community through thick and thin: rain, bushfires, floods, Christmas parties with Santa arriving on the fire truck, community meetings, birthday celebrations, and wakes. It has been the place that brought Medway families together and has held them together as a community for over 50+ years. In 2001, the Hall was closed by local council following noted repair needs, and the community has been without its hall ever since. Today, residents gather outside in the street for get-togethers — because that’s the kind of community they are. But they want their hall back. Now, 25+ years of closure has seen it fall into extreme disrepair and may remain locked up and deemed unusable. Getting the hall back means fixing it and that will cost money. For Medway, this isn’t just a building — it holds their history, their identity, and their shared memories. It’s the place where they become Medwaylians together, and where they’ll make memories long into the future if we all get behind and help. We believe that’s worth fighting for, and because that’s what community does. Together, we can make a difference!

Join us by buying a raffle ticket, coming along to the June 27th event, or by donating in some way. Thank you for your generosity and kindness

And the title of Miss June Long Weekend goes to... (pause for effect) Missy the Pug! — she is representing the bucolic rolling hills of the Southern Highlands, NSW! Did someone say rolling? Missy's got rolls for Austarlia; with more rolls than a Streets Viennetta, and there’s nothing wrong with that — she’s just as sweet and posh and who wants to hug a bag of bones anyway?

Missy is a professional who campaigns tirelessly for the Treats-For-All charity, a cause for which her dedication and excellence have captured the hearts of our judges. Her family is very lucky to have her—she adopted them as her family after being rescued. Missy was rescued, but then, she actually rescued them from a Missy-free life too!

She has never known hunger since, nor gone without daily cuddles and — hence that ecstatic, lolling-tongue Hollywood smile.

Fun Missy Fact: her party trick is being able to furl her tongue in and out at parties, just like a party blower. Adding festive cheer to every family occasion!

On this chilly June Long Weekend is the perfect weather to Shnuggle-A-Pug. Please join us in sending online virtual cuddles and pats to Beauty Queen Missy, our crowned 2026!

Love from Missy’s favourite veterinary team,

Dr Keith and nurses at Mittagong Vet! 🐾🏆🩷🐶

Please welcome Teddi, a cute little doggoe who visited this week for important veterinary care. He’s a gorgeous Maltese Terrier—and true to the breed—he’s affectionate spirited, playful and devoted. Maltese thrive on companionship, preferring not to be left alone, and are more than a little bit ‘Cuddly-Chudley’. Plus, being Terriers, they come with an inbuilt security system!

We were so thrilled to have little Teddi (Bear) at our vet hospital, and he’s a fresh bout of :

I needs me a snuggle-bear, loyal and sweet,

Who won’t hog the lounge or my bed while I sleep,

Who fits perfectly up on my knee —

A little white lamb who will never flee.

To my heart, holds the key, and forever be

‘someone to watch over me’.

If this sounds like your dream doggoe — well, move over George & Ira Gershwin — because have we got neeeewz for you! Your dream bundle of “knight in white satin floof” is none other than a Maltese (Angel) Terrier!

The perfect antidote to a cold, windy, wintry Highlands day. Please join us in sending sweet little Teddi (Bear) your biggest heartfelt love and pats. This lovely boy is our ! What a wonderful little dog is Teddi!

All our love,

Dr Keith and all the team at Mittagong Vet (woof-woof, wag-wag) 🐾

June is Pride Month around the world! — a month-long celebration recognising the contributions of our LGBTQI+ community and coinciding with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York; a series of gay liberation protests that spearheaded the Gay Rights movement and paved the way for LGBTQI+ rights and advocacy today.

To mark the occasion, Dr Keith personally climbed up onto our vet cottage roof to hang a fresh Pride flag.

The Pride flag signals that our veterinary hospital is a safe space for our LGBTQI+ community — where you can expect respect, acceptance and dignity, so you can simply be you, and we can focus on providing the best possible care for your pets.

We fly our flag for our beloved family, friends, colleagues clients, and everyone in our cherished community who is living their authentic and courageous life, and those who are on their journey of discovering and coming out as their sincere self; we see you, we support you, and we honour your bravery. We fly our flag year-round for this reason, but especially in June — in solidarity with communities worldwide, and for everyone in our community who has ever needed to know they are seen, supported and loved. We’re proud to stand beside you today (from the tippy-top of our vet hospital roof and our hearts!) and every day. Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 🩷

“Sì, sono magnifico!”
Please welcome the exquisite Albert, our local Italian Greyhound. He is incredibly gentle, sweet-natured, beautiful, and elegant. Italian Greyhounds are small sighthounds, originally bred to hunt hare and rabbits in the Tuscan hills, the Dolomites, Lake Como, and all those other scenic, to-die-for tourist haunts — must've been tough. Nowadays they’re retired from the hunting life and kept mostly as loyal, sweet companion dogs. They are affectionate, athletic, intelligent, companionable, and The Googles say agile, but we think also maybe a little bit fragile. They’re very soft and sensitive.

Another notable, beautiful Italian, Sophia Loren, once said: “Everything you see I owe to spaghetti.” (She Lies!) We’ve eaten mountains of spaghetti and DID NOT wake up transformed into an Italian goddess...

Likewise, Albert — who is super well fed at home — is simply an exquisite dog, no matter whether he eats the spaghetti or not. It’s just those good-looking Italian genes. Some just have it, and the rest of us are left trying.

Warmest first-day-of-winter cheers and happiest Monday wishes to this soft, gentle “oil painting” — Albert.

Bella Ciao! and endless love from all the team at Mittagong Vet

The +7mth+14DayChallenge 🐱

It's hard to believe that little baby Maple grew into such a glorious Domestic Long-Haired Floofy Feline Disney Princess!

And my, what big round flying-saucer eyes you have, Maple! She's definitely 'Got the Look' — as the Roxette song goes. She’s also very famous at home for having perfected the Zoolander look ‘Le Trigre’.

Maple has a remarkable backstory. She was found as a tiny abandoned kitten, without her mother, at Lake Alexandra in Mittagong. Some good cat-samaritans brought her to for emergency care. One of our amazing vet nurses took her under her wing — and the intensive care of a very tiny kitten requires constant attention. For weeks, she needed round-the-clock nursing back to health. The two bonded deeply over this time, Maple was adopted by our super vet nurse, and they are now inseparable family!

A gentle reminder from Maple's story:

Baby Maple was brought in as a stray kitten. Whilst her owner would never wish her away, her story is a reminder that all cats — both domestic and stray — need to be desexed. Cats are prolific breeders, and our local shelters are bursting with kittens and cats that need homes. Local laws also require cat owners to have the Kitties desexed by 4 months of age (the onset of puberty for a cat), to help prevent unwanted litters, reduce roaming and fighting.

Maple's story has a happy ending — but sadly, for many kittens it's a tragedy that can be avoided with a special trip to The Vet.

Struggling with the cost of desexing?

The RSPCA and the National Desexing Program offer discounted and heavily subsidised cat desexing programs to help eligible pet owners manage costs. In the Mittagong/Wingecarribee region, residents holding a pension or low-income healthcare card may be eligible.

Please welcome gorgeous ‘Koda’ the Border Collie × Kelpie extraordinaire to our vet hospital!
Look at those fabulously euphoric “I can’t believe it’s not butter” eyes.

It was Koda’s first visit to — and we’ll let his expression speak for itself.

We were just as excited to meet Koda and were rather taken by his exuberance & Joie de Vivre. Looking forward to meeting Koda again soon - on the happiest and healthiest of circumstances, naturally!

As the great British statesman Benjamin Disraeli once said: “Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.”

“Hear, hear!” Koda woofed. “Now, hand over the treats & tally-ho!!!”

And because Koda is an absolute delight, he has rightfully earned our prestigious “Silver Whiskers of the Week Award". Please join us in showering radiant Koda with all your most exuberant on-line congratulatory gestures — happy hands, enthusiastic waves, and vigorous virtual pats!

Today, our vet hospital was proud to donate this big box — chock-a-block-full of high-quality, nutritious pet food, to the Vinnies Food Pantry in Mittagong. Thank you, again and again, to our amazing clients and community for your wonderful, ongoing kindness and generosity.

Our dedicated Donation Station at Mittagong Vet Hospital gives people the opportunity to donate unwanted, in-date, quality pet food, which we pass on to the local Vinnies Food Pantry for pet owners experiencing financial hardship. Providing free, quality pet food means these beloved pets — and sometimes their owners — don’t have to go without. Every small act of kindness, added together, makes the world a better place. As Maya Angelou wrote: “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”

In troubled times, your donation means more than just a meal, it means hope.

Thank you — from all of us at Mittagong Vet!

20/05/2026

Winter means it's time to rug up, keep the house warm & cosy, & make sure our pets are well looked after — especially the older ones. Here's our top winter warmer tips for your pets:
* Make a warm, safe space: Cold weather is dangerous for any animal. Outdoor cats & dogs need a kennel that is windproof, waterproof, dry, & elevated off the ground. Add warm bedding like blankets. Indoor pets also need a cozy sleep spot away from cold tiles — cats especially love igloo-style enclosures, as do smaller breeds like chihuahuas.
*Keep them safe inside: Pets spend more time indoors in winter, increasing risks around heaters & fireplaces. Always switch off appliances before leaving, keep electric cords out of reach, & use safety grills in front of fireplaces & heaters.
*The winter wobbles: As temperatures drop, animals burn more calories to regulate body temperature — so expect appetites to increase. If you're unsure how much your pet should be eating or are concerned about weight gain, talk to your vet.
*Keep up the hydration: Pets always need access to fresh, clean water. Outdoor troughs can ice over on frosty nights, so check them regularly. Swap metal water bowls for ceramic or porcelain ones — cold metal can cause a pet's tongue to stick in icy conditions.
* Move to keep warm & fit: Regular exercise is essential, especially for dogs — it keeps joints moving, provides mental stimulation, & supports cardiovascular health. Senior dogs especially benefit from keeping active. Cats will likely sleep through winter much like every other season.
* Winter coats: Many pets benefit from extra layers in winter, especially seniors & short-haired breeds. A good pet coat shouldn't be tight around the neck or chest, should cover from neck to the base of the tail, & should not restrict leg movement.
* Extra care for senior pets: Cold weather can inflame arthritis & stiff joints. Watch for signs of discomfort: difficulty getting up, reluctance to move, a stiff gait, reduced activity. Keeping senior pets warm can ease arthritic pain. If you notice these signs, see your vet — they may recommend medications to keep your pet comfortable, mobile, & healthy for longer.
