WonderPaws Dog Training

WonderPaws Dog Training 🐾 Dog Training for Dog Owners 🐾 The thing about Dogs, is that they have their innate way of instantly getting into your heart. How nice would that feel?

Hello and Welcome to WonderPaws Dog Training

If you’re reading this - then you’re serious about training your dog – so thank you for clicking on WonderPaws! They give you those ‘puppy dog eyes’ – you go ‘awww... looook.... soooo cute’ and before you know it, they’re chewing your favourite shoes, running around the house with your bra, or pulling you across the road to meet another dog! If you hav

e a dream of owning a dog that listens 1st time, every time, then I can help you make that dream a reality. Imagine your dog walking nicely on a lead and completely ignoring that other dog. Or your dog doesn’t find your bra or your favourite pair of shoes exciting at all! What I can offer, is tailor made training to suit your specific needs. I will come to your home and train your dog. I will provide the equipment you’ll need. I’ll help you understand why dogs do what they do, and give you simple and easy instructions to reach your dream. You’ll be amazed by the difference in the 1st session. Now you know what I can do for you, let me introduce myself......

My name is Jools, and I’m a Nationally Qualified Dog Trainer (NDTF) I grew up in Birmingham (UK), Keir (my husband) is from Manchester (And no! He doesn’t know Liam or Noel Gallagher from Oasis!). We’ve been together since 2003, and we emigrated to Melbourne in 2011. Like most people, I’ve always had dogs in my life, but I’ve naturally developed ‘a knack’ with training them (I‘m known as the Barbara Woodhouse of the family!)
I taught Socks (my Aunts dog) to collect the newspaper from the letterbox and drop it at her feet! With Foster, (the 1st dog I ever owned), I taught him to crawl under a blanket when he let one rip! Paddy (our current dog) knows how to spell the word DOG! Dogs are amazingly, loving animals, and once you’ve developed a concrete gateway of communication with them – they will do pretty much anything! Like us humans, we learn every day. Allow me to help you train your dog so they will do what you ask 1st time, every time.

The last sentence "The work is definitely paying off" is what dog training is all about 😀

When we're training dogs, we HAVE to be patient - they have zero idea of what we want them to do

So its our job to guide them, have patience, be consistent, get the reps in and eventually, everything starts to fall into place

Everything starts to get easier

You get more good days and sessions that bad ones

I'm really proud of Team Archie - they stuck to all the advice I gave them and I cannot wait to see them progress even further in Group Classes and Pack Outings 🫶🏻

SOUND ON 🔊

Dogs getting into bins isn’t just messy, or bloody annoying & inconvenient for us - it can be dangerous for the dog!

If your dog has raided the bin, check what’s missing, not just what’s been eaten.

Look for remnants of toxic foods like chocolate, grapes/raisins, cooked bones etc

Also, things like plastic containers, packaging, cling wrap, foil, skewers or other foreign objects.

As you can see in this reel, all the pieces of the plastic takeaway tub were found 👌🏻 which is exactly what we wanted!

If pieces are missing, we need to consider whether they’ve been swallowed that could cause an internal obstruction.

Advice:
Check the food scraps - anything toxic?
Check the pieces of plastic/foreign objects - is anything missing?
Check your dog - If you suspect something toxic or a foreign object has been swallowed, contact your vet ASAP, or if out of hours, call your nearest local emergency vet
Keep an eye on your dog - watch for any lethargy, or vomiting, or diarrhoea, or anything out of the ordinary

AI and Robots are coming for dog trainers’ jobs… apparently 🙄

Dear Robot:
The dog just spotted a kangaroo......
You have approximately 1 second before the Labrador pulls like a freight train!
Hold tight 😂

Jokes aside.... AI and robots are VERY clever! They can answer questions, analyse behaviour and produce a beautiful 12-step training plan in about three seconds

But who programmmed them to do it?? Yep! Humans!

But knowing what to do with a dog, and actually doing it while the dog is losing its mind over something 50 metres away are two very different things.

Until a robot can:

• untangle a 10m long line from a dogs legs
• spot a dog getting overstimulated before all hell breaks loose
• hang onto a lead while being dragged through wet grass
• AND enthusiastically say “GOOD BOY!” for the 387th time…

…I think human dog trainers are safe. 😂

Dogs don’t live in algorithms or perfectly written training plans, they don't come pre-programmed by a human.

They live in the messy real world that humans have created!

Good dog training takes timing, patience, feel, body language, trust, experience and a genuine relationship between human and dog.

AI is an amazing tool. Use it. I did to help with this post! (and the images 😂)

Robots scare the crap out of me 🙈

But lets keep the human on the other end of the lead because NOTHING will replace us 💪🏼

Humans: 1
Robots & AI: still booting 😂

what are your thoughts about AI or robots to help with training dogs?

🐾 DOG TRAINING: THE RECIPE

Everyone wants a well-trained dog… preferably by next week 😂

But training isn’t just about the dog.

The human has to bring:

Patience. Consistency. Commitment. Communication. A sense of humour. And one that’s often overlooked — the ability to actually READ your dog.

Your dog is communicating all the time. Are they confused? Stressed? Over-aroused? Engaged? Distracted? Or do they simply have no bloody idea what you’re asking? 😂

Then there’s the dog’s side of the equation: Motivation, engagement, health, nutrition and genetic fulfilment.

Put it all together and underneath everything are the two ingredients that matter most:

❤️ RELATIONSHIP
❤️ TRUST

Some days you’ll smash it.
Other days your dog will act like you’ve never met.
That’s the reality of dog training 😂

Which ingredient do you think humans struggle with the most?

THE WORK.... WORKS 💪🏼

Olan had a very clear understanding of the task...

Jump once = treat
Jump twice = treat

Except I changed the task 🤣

This time, I wanted 3 jumps and i'll reward after the 3rd

Olan was a little annoyed: “Oi… you’ve forgotten something" and protests with whining

But.... I encourage him to jump again....

He thinks about it but whines a little more...

Then he jumps for the 3rd time!

BOOOM! REWARD 👌🏻

We reset.... We go again for 3 reps (this time without frustration!)

Jump. Jump. Jump.

BOOOM! Not a single moment of frustration!

You see.... a little frustration for Olan caused him to re-think. He problem solved. He worked through it. He made the right choice. He did the 3rd rep and got rewarded.

And just like that… My patience paid off

Building a little frustration in your dog isn't a bad thing

It can get them to think and problem solve.

One of the things I love about training dogs is watching the cogs go round in their brain while they calculate their next move

Patience is key here!

THE WORK.... WORKS 💪🏼

08/08/2026

Me: Olan is on leash. Phone is set up. I hit record and walk away with Olan.

My Brain: “But did you ACTUALLY hit record?” 👀

Me: S**t! Did I hit record?? Walk back. Check phone. Yep. All good. I hit record. 🙄😂

As humans we do this ALL.THE.TIME.... we doubt ourselves 🙈

But when it comes to our dogs, that self doubt is so loud its on steroids....

“Was that the right thing to do?” “Should I have rewarded that?” “Am I making this worse?” “Should I have waited longer?” “Am I being too soft?” “Too strict?” “Was that a stress signal?” “Should I have let him sniff longer?” “Did I just reinforce THAT?” “Should I have brought bacon instead of kibble?” “Have I completely ruined my dog because of that one thing I did on Tuesday?” 😳

We doubt ourselves over EVERYTHING.

And while a bit of self-reflection is a good thing, constantly second-guessing every tiny decision can make dog training feel WAY harder than it needs to be.

Sometimes you don’t need another training tip.

You need to trust what you already know. But if you're still unsure.... check with your trainer 👌🏻

You don’t have to make the perfect choice every single time because perfection doesn't exist in training dogs

And remember... you’re probably doing better with your dog than your overthinking brain would have you believe 🫶🏻🌸

Hands up who overthinks 🙌🏻

Weekend away packing-list.... when you take the dog....

Us: • Two changes of clothes • Toothbrush • Phone charger --> DONE!

The dog: • Raw food • Kibble • Bowls • Bowl stand • Bed • Blanket • Favourite blanket (just in case) • Long line • Rain coat • Towels • Treat pouch • Poo bags • Kong • Favourite toy • Backup favourite toy • Emotional support monkey • And enough supplies to survive a six-month expedition into the wilderness.

The funniest bit.....

You spend 60 minutes meticulously packing every single item because, heaven forbid, they don't have the correct blanket for 1 of 2 nights away.

Then you arrive... and they immediately claim your bed, or the sofa, ignore their own bed completely, drink from a muddy puddle instead of the travel bowl you packed, and spend the entire weekend carrying around the one stick they found in the first five minutes of arrival.

Meanwhile, you've forgotten your smalls for the 2nd day 🤣

Please tell me we're not the only people who pack like we're taking our dog on an expedition just for a two-night weekend away - pleeeeease!!
