Cookie has been treated for an ear infection and came back to see us for her recheck, and we’re very happy to say she’s been given the all clear! 🎉

Ear problems can be incredibly frustrating, especially when they keep coming back. Underlying allergies are a very common contributor to recurrent ear infections, and these may be related to environmental allergens, food sensitivities or genetic predisposition.
Cookie’s owner has done an amazing job staying on top of her treatment and ear care, which has made such a difference.

👂 Keep an eye (and nose!) on those ears. If you notice an unusual smell, redness, discharge, itchiness, head shaking or a change in the colour of the skin inside the ear, it’s worth getting them checked early.

Early treatment and identifying the underlying cause can help prevent a small ear problem becoming a chronic one.

Age is not a disease, it simply means we care a little differently..

Meet our handsome senior gentleman, Zuba. Like many older dogs, he has experienced some age-related changes, including reduced hearing, vision loss, arthritis, and signs of cognitive dysfunction (dementia). Despite this, he continues to enjoy life with the right care and support.

Zuba recently visited Caring Paws for a second opinion regarding a large splenic mass(growth on his spleen). Following careful assessment and planning, he underwent surgery and is now recovering beautifully at home. Seeing him comfortable, happy, and back with his family is exactly what we aim for.

Senior pets deserve the same opportunities as younger pets. While every case is different, age alone should not be the deciding factor. By carefully assessing each pet's overall health, quality of life, and individual needs, we can create treatment plans that are safe, appropriate, and tailored to them.

During our senior pets consultations, we commonly talk about things like nutrition, chronic pain, noise sensitivity as well as early signs of early cognitive dysfunction (dementia).

Talk to your local vet if you notice any of these changes, including changes in appetite, drinking, or toileting habits.

Many age-related conditions can be managed successfully when recognised early, helping our companions remain comfortable and enjoy a wonderful quality of life.

Thank you to Zuba's family for trusting us with his care. We wish this beautiful boy many more happy, comfortable adventures ahead. 🐶💜

At Caring Paws, we enjoy seeing the whole family coming in together..

Whether it's one dog, two cats, three pets or a group full of furry friends, they all deserve the same love, care, and attention.

Moments like these remind us that veterinary care isn't just about medicine or surgery, it's about the special bond families share with their pets.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your pet's journey(the owners have asked to be anonymous for the post🩷).

Seeing happy faces (both two-legged and four-legged!) is easily one of the best parts of our day and it makes our job worthwhile.

We tend to say two is already a handful, I don't know how you guys do 6! They forgot the two cats at home! Keep up the great work guys.

Can our pets eat with fewer teeth?

Tutu's answer: "Excuse me... where's my breakfast that I missed this morning??"

Meet gorgeous 17-year-old Tutu, proving once again that age is just a number! After having some painful diseased / infected teeth removed and his first ever dental, his owners were understandably worried he wouldn't be able to eat properly.

Tutu woke up beautifully from his anaesthetic and was back to eating his missed breakfast like he'd never had any extractions. In fact, he ate better than before.

🦷 Did you know? Pets don't chew the same way we do. Many dogs and cats can eat perfectly well, even after multiple dental extractions. Painful, infected teeth are often the reason they stop eating.

Signs your pet may have dental pain: 🐾 Bad breath 🐾 Dropping food 🐾 Chewing on one side 🐾 Reduced appetite 🐾Drooling or Reluctance to play with toys or treats

A healthy mouth gives our furry friends a whole new lease on life and also prevents secondary gut, kidney or heart issues, which is very important in pets as they age.

Many owners tell us, "I didn't realise how uncomfortable they were until after their dental."

Tutu is now back to doing what he does best... convincing everyone he's starving 24/7. 🍖😂

Here's to many more happy, pain-free meals, Tutu! We think you wear 17 incredibly well, this was one worthwhile procedure, we hope we've bought another 2 years for Tutu to enjoy life with his owners while he ages gracefully🤞

🐾 Beezie's happy ending 💜

Beezie came to us after months of chronic diarrhoea, weight loss, and gradually losing her appetite. An ultrasound showed changes in her intestines, and naturally her family feared the worst.

Following intestinal biopsies, we were relieved to diagnose Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) rather than cancer. With the right treatment and a carefully tailored diet, Beezie has made an amazing recovery.

She is now diarrhoea-free, has gained 2 kg, and is back to enjoying life!

IBD is a condition we commonly see in middle-aged and older cats. While some pets need lifelong medication and others can be managed with diet alone, early diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference to their quality of life.

A big thank you to Beezie's wonderful mum for recognising that something wasn't right and seeking help early. Your dedication helped give Beezie the best possible outcome.

Wishing you many more happy, healthy years ahead, Beezie! 🐱

When they said we were going to "see some friends".....she forgot to mention one of them would be carrying a thermometer.

10/10 for cuteness. 11/10 for dramatic facial expressions. 100/10 for stealing everyone's heart.

Sorry Polly! We have to check your temperature! We always wish someone would invent a faster and easier way when it comes to taking temperatures for pets in clinics. We are still waiting!

Tongue Out Tuesday with Austin!

Austin patiently waiting for his owners after his dental procedure.

French Bulldogs are adorable, but their unique facial structure means they can be more prone to breathing difficulties, especially when they're stressed or recovering from an anaesthetic.

Keeping their stay as short as possible is especially important because their little squishy faces can make breathing more challenging. From low-stress handling to careful anaesthetic monitoring and a quiet, comfortable recovery area, every step is designed to help our patients recover smoothly and get back home to their families as soon as they're ready.

Austin recovered beautifully... although we're still not convinced he knows where his tongue went. 😂

Look who really wants the vets attention☺️

When we perform x-rays, most pets do get sedated because it does provide a more effective and stress free process alongside good results.

We often have to put them on their backs, roll them on their sides or stretch their limbs in positions that could be painful in order to achieve excellent images and not miss anything.

When we sedate patients, we always tailor our medications to the patients needs, medical history, age and symptoms.

Our patients all tolerate them well and go home quickly. Here is K.O getting an x-ray of his front left limb as it is swollen and he's been limping badly for the last day. He is usually quite worried and stressed when the owners are not around but seemed very content with us today, thank you K.O and owner for your trust in us!

Pocket-Sized Perfection!

Some patients arrive in style... and this little one may have just won the award for the cutest entrance. He did give us a scare when he popped his head out, demanding his health check to be done.

While this photo is guaranteed to make you smile, it's also a great reminder that positive vet visits really can start from a young age.

We tell pet owners to bring their pets in for treats, cuddles and weigh ins, happy experiences help build confidence and reduce stress later in life during their vet visits.

A few ways to make vet visits a positive experience: ✨ Bring their favourite treats. ✨ Let them explore at their own pace. ✨ Keep visits fun, gentle and calm. ✨ Pop in for a quick weigh-in or hello, even when they're healthy.
