How we finish the edges on a PK9 leather dog collar.
Apply burnishing gum. Hit it with a rotary tool fitted with a wooden burnishing bit. Sand it smooth. Apply again. Switch to a finer bit. Polish. Buff with canvas cloth until it's sealed and rounded.
Most dog collars skip this step entirely. They leave the edges raw, which means they fray, absorb moisture, and start looking rough within weeks. A properly burnished edge is sealed, smooth to the touch, and lasts years without deteriorating.
This is what separates handmade leather goods from factory-cut junk. Every collar gets this treatment before it leaves our workshop.
