Teddy had his follow-up appointment with Melbourne Cat Vets this morning.

While we're pleased that some of the lumps in his throat have reduced in size, his largest lump is still very significant, measuring around 5 × 4 cm (slightly larger than a golf ball).

We're also disappointed that Teddy has lost weight despite having an excellent appetite and enjoying a high-quality diet. Given how well he has been eating, we were really hopeful to see the scales moving in the other direction.

We've now started Teddy on steroids and made some changes to his diet in the hope that when he returns to the vet in a week's time for another review, we'll see some encouraging progress and weight gain.

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep this sweet old gentleman in your thoughts. He is such a beautiful boy, and we're doing everything we can to give him the best care possible.

Tomorrow is a very big day for Marmalade. After 5½ years in foster care she has her first EVER adoption meet & greet.

Marmalade came into care when she was 1 year old with her 4 beautiful ginger kittens. While her babies found loving forever homes very quickly, Marmalade's journey has been a very different one. Despite our experience rehabilitating timid street cats, Marmalade has taught us that healing doesn't happen on a schedule. Some animals need weeks, some need months... & some need years.

For over five years we've celebrated every small milestone. Every moment she chose to stay instead of run. Every little step that helped her realise that people could be kind. Marmalade has shared our home with countless rescue cats over the years & we have been so incredibly lucky to share our lives with her. Watching her slowly let down the walls she built to protect herself has been a great privilege.

The lovely lady who has enquired about Marmalade knows she is a very timid girl, yet she is still excited to meet her. That alone means so much to us. It takes a very compassionate person to look beyond fear & see the beautiful soul underneath.

We have a dedicated meet & greet room set up especially for cats like Marmalade, creating a safe space where she can experience meeting someone new without feeling overwhelmed. Our hope isn't for perfection, it's simply that Marmalade walks away with another positive experience, regardless of what tomorrow brings.

We're also looking forward to sharing some beautiful videos with her potential adopter, showing just how far this incredible girl has come. Sometimes the bravest journeys aren't the loudest ones, they're the quiet victories that happen day by day, year by year.

Please keep everything crossed for Marmalade tomorrow & send her all the love & luck in the world. Make sure you watch the video that was taken just after we got off the phone organising tomorrow, it captures something that once felt impossible, beautiful Marmalade happily enjoying gentle pats on our bed.

5.5 years of patience. 5.5 years of love. And a lifetime ahead that we hope will finally include a family to call her own. 🧡🐾

Kimchi and Taro arrived last night for adoption bonding and they are both absolutely stealing my heart with their sweetness 🥹

As many of you know, due to the financial strain of being a small mostly self-funded rescue, I've had to make the difficult decision to limit the amount of animals BFFR takes on but I didn't want to stop helping rabbits find their happy forever homes so I offer adoption bonding for those adopting through Kelly's Rabbit Warren Rescue.

Kimchi's family were rescued and she's been waiting since a baby for a special forever home so please keep your fingers crossed that all goes well with bonding so that she can have a amazing home with beautiful Taro 🥰

Every animal who comes into rescue has a story. Some begin with love others with heartbreak. But every single one deserves to end with happiness.

Milo came into care with her 3 kittens after they were discovered abandoned at a work depot. Given just how affectionate & trusting they all are with people we believe this little family was most likely dumped. It's something we'll never truly understand because they are the sweetest souls you could ever hope to meet.

As a rescue our role doesn't stop at providing food & a safe place to sleep. We become each animal's advocate. We learn their personalities, support them through any medical concerns, & make sure they're as healthy & happy as possible before they begin the next chapter of their lives.

Recently Milo reminded us that rescue is rarely without its unexpected moments. She suddenly began vomiting one Sunday morning & was taken straight to the vet. After X-rays, an examination & anti-nausea medication, the good news was that she had a mildly constipated & gassy tummy rather than anything more serious. She returned to her foster home where she was closely monitored & temporarily enjoyed a simple high-fibre diet of chicken breast & pumpkin while everything settled. Milo is now happily back to enjoying her normal diet.

When you adopt from BFFR you receive their story, their veterinary history & our honest guidance so you can continue giving them the very best care. Rescue is a lifelong commitment & we want every family to feel informed, supported & confident from day one.

Last weekend Milo met a lovely couple who absolutely adored her & it was obvious the feeling was mutual. Seeing her confidently settle into their company makes everything we do so worthwhile. Knowing that Milo will never again have to wonder where her next meal will come from, or whether she has somewhere safe to sleep, is the greatest reward we could ask for.

Thank you to Milo's wonderful foster carer for loving her as your own, to our veterinary teams for always being there when our animals need them & to Milo's incredible adopters for opening their hearts and home to a very deserving girl.

💙 Teddy's Two Week Update 💙
It's been two weeks since sweet Teddy came into our care so we wanted to share how this incredibly special boy has been progressing.

Teddy has now finished his course of antibiotics & we started him on Protexin Synbiotic D-C to provide additional digestive support as although he is on Hill's Digestive Care diet, he is still experiencing some soft bowel motions, so we're doing everything we can to help his gastrointestinal health. He is also receiving weekly vitamin B12 injections & was treated for fleas and worms.

The good news is that we're beginning to see some encouraging improvements.

His skin is looking healthier, his coat is shinier, his energy levels have improved, & most excitingly several of the lumps in his throat have noticeably reduced in size. While we're cautiously optimistic, Teddy's journey is far from over & we have lots more love to share with him.

This Friday Teddy will return to our wonderful feline internal medicine specialists at for a review. We may need to repeat his ultrasounds so we can get a better understanding of the changes we're seeing & discuss the next steps in his treatment plan to ensure we're giving this beautiful boy every possible chance at a healthy future.

Like all our special needs rescues, Teddy's care is ongoing & expensive. His prescription food alone costs over $80 a week & his specialist review could cost anywhere between $500 - $1,000 depending on what diagnostics & treatments he needs.

If you are in a position to help, we would be incredibly grateful for any donation as every dollar goes directly towards Teddy's specialist care, medications & prescription diet. Without support we sadly cannot continue giving animals like Teddy the second chance they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who has followed Teddy's journey. We know he has touched many hearts already & we can't wait to share more updates of this gentle old purr machine.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

🎉ADOPTED🎉
Lino and his family have had a very successful week of meet and greets! We might have been quiet with the updates on our socials but we have had a busy week behind the scenes with lots of vet appointments and so many Beary Fuzzy fur friends heading off to absolutely amazing forever homes!

We put a lot of effort into making sure our adopters are ready to welcome their new family members into their homes and we are always so grateful to every one of our adopters for taking in all the advice and support we share with them as we value the adoption process being as positive as possible for everyone, especially the animals.

We have already received so many beautiful updates of those who have been adopted this week settling in so well and we love seeing their new families happily experiencing the special bonds blossoming with their new fuzzy family members.

I'm doing my best to get through more adoption applications and have started booking in more exciting meet and greets for others this coming week. Fingers and paws crossed that we will have another successful week ahead for the BFFR animals.
