🐍 SNAKE BITES IN PETS 🐍

Spring has arrived 🌸 and with the warmer weather, snakes are becoming more active — meaning an increased risk of snake bites for our pets.

🚨 A snake bite is a veterinary emergency. Dogs and cats can deteriorate rapidly, so if you suspect your pet has been bitten, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Seek veterinary treatment immediately.

If you find your pet with a snake, have them checked by a vet even if they seem completely normal. Signs can be delayed, particularly in cats.

❗️ Signs of a snake bite may include:
• Sudden collapse or weakness
• Vomiting or excessive drooling
• Tremors or shaking
• Purple or discoloured gums
• Loss of bladder or bowel control
• Paralysis
• Bleeding

🐍 Brown and Tiger snakes are common in our region. You do not need to identify the snake before seeking treatment — we have multi-species antivenom available.

Happy birthday to our equine friends!
August 1st is considered the official birthday of all horses in Australia (Standardbreds, you get your own special day in September!) and is often the official start of the breeding/foaling season.

This week, we’re celebrating a very special new arrival of the two-legged variety.

We’re delighted to share that Dr Liz and her partner, Luke, welcomed a beautiful baby boy last week.

🛑 H5N1 BIRD FLU 🛑

Whilst no confirmed cases have been reported in Victoria, we will be following AVA advice and ask that you not bring ANY birds into clinic. This includes domestic pets, commercial poultry and wildlife.

Please call our team on 5461 4466 if you have a bird requiring vet treatment for further information and advice.

If you see sick or dead birds:
