PEE WEE Horse Bit

PEE WEE Horse Bit The Pee Wee is a unique design of horse bit. it eliminates head tossing and other mouthing problems. Want a relaxed horse without mouthing issues?

The Innovative Equestrian Pee Wee Horse bit is the most comfortable and responsive bit you can put in your horse's mouth. Surveys have shown that 80% of horses have low palates and large fleshy tongues. This means that the majority of bits on the market are too thick in the mouth bar and so don't leave enough room in the mouth for the tongue. As a result, the tongue lifts the mouth bar up until it

contacts the roof of the mouth (mouth palate). This is a major irritation that causes the horse to toss its head up and forwards to try and shake the bit to the front of the mouth to create some room and stop the contact to the palate. We have eliminated this problem by introducing a thinner mouth bar which leaves plenty of room for the tongue and eliminates contact to the roof of the mouth as well as being lightweight and beautifully shaped to fit over the tongue. Also being a fixed mullen mouth bar there is no "nutcracker "effect which is very disconcerting
to horses.

Do you know how it feels when your horse suddenly tenses up beneath you?

Their back tightens. Their head comes up. And instead of enjoying the ride, you find yourself holding your breath, wondering what might happen next.

A friend recently experienced this when her riding club wouldn’t allow her to use the P*e Wee Horse Bit. She changed to a snaffle so she could join the ride, but it didn’t feel the same.

Her horse was on edge and tight. She became stressed and afraid, and eventually decided the safest thing was to get off.

It wasn’t the enjoyable day with her horse that she had been looking forward to.

She has now chosen not to return to that club. Instead, she’ll ride with another nearby club that supports the P*e Wee Horse Bit and continue enjoying feeling safe and happy riding her horse.

Because when you know your horse, you know when something doesn’t feel right.

And when you’ve found a bit that helps your horse feel softer, calmer and more comfortable, it’s hard to give up the confidence that brings you both.

Riding should feel like a partnership—not a battle. 💛🐴

Have you ever ridden your horse in different equipment and immediately felt the difference?

I rode this lovely gelding for the first time the other day and fitted him with a P*e Wee Horse Bit.

He is a solid type, a lovely Appy 15.1hh, so the Medium P*e Wee Horse Bit was a perfect fit.

His owner told me he is a sensitive boy and can sometimes be a little stiff to turn.

We began in the arena, where I simply let him walk where he wanted, on a long rein. There was no pressure and no hurry—I just wanted to give him time to relax and become familiar with me and the feel of the bit.

When I began asking him to turn, he was soft and responsive.

I find the P*e Wee’s side bars can make turning easier to understand because the directional signal is felt on the outside of the horse’s lower jaw, rather than through the sensitive corners of the mouth.

We then headed out for a trail ride. He remained calm and relaxed, and his owner noticed it too.

For his first ride in the P*e Wee, I was really pleased with how comfortably he accepted it and how responsive he felt when I asked him to turn.

🐴 Why is the P*e Wee Bit such a great choice for endurance riding?

Pictured is accomplished Far North Queensland endurance rider Kristie Sheehan—a four-time Queensland State Championship division winner and nine-time Tom Quilty rider—with her mare, Jensems Coco Couture, affectionately known as “Rosie.”

Over long distances, a horse needs to remain comfortable, relaxed and able to refuel along the way.

At endurance ride stops, horses may be offered carrots, apples, water or the opportunity to graze. The P*e Wee Bit’s unique floating mouthpiece allows the horse to eat and drink freely without the mouthpiece getting in the way.

Designed to sit low and comfortably in the mouth, the mouthpiece sits above the horse’s sensitive tongue rather than pressing down on it. It moves freely and passively back and forth with the natural movement of the tongue—without applying downward pressure.

This helps the horse remain relaxed and comfortable while still allowing clear, gentle communication from the rider.

For endurance riders, that means:

• Freedom to eat, drink and graze
• No downward pressure on the sensitive tongue
• A comfortable, relaxed mouth
• Clear communication over long distances
• A lightweight and uncomplicated design

When every kilometre counts, your horse’s comfort matters.

Ride further. Communicate softly. Choose the P*e Wee Bit. 💙

🐴 A correctly fitted bit doesn’t always need wrinkles
Many of us were taught that a bit should create one or two wrinkles at the corners of the horse’s mouth. But the P*e Wee Horse Bit is designed to sit differently.
Its slim, floating mouthpiece sits a little lower in the mouth, allowing it to glide gently over the tongue rather than being pulled firmly into the corners of the lips.
When fitting your P*e Wee:
✨ Lower the cheek straps by one or two holes
✨ Look for a slight bulge—not wrinkles—at the corners of the mouth
✨ Allow two fingers of space beneath the chin strap
✨ Make sure the outside bars sit clear of the jaw
✨ Do not use it with a flash or drop noseband, as the mouthpiece needs room to float
Every horse’s mouth is shaped differently. A thick tongue, low palate or fleshy lips can make a traditionally fitted bit feel crowded and uncomfortable.
Sometimes, giving the bit—and the horse—a little more room can make all the difference.
Have you noticed your horse become quieter or more settled in the mouth since changing to the P*e Wee? I would love to hear about it. 🤎

Have you ever struggled to adjust your bridle for the perfect fit? 🐴

When I was fitting bridles to my two geldings, I kept coming across the same problems.

The browbands were often too tight, pulling the bridle forward and creating pressure around the sensitive poll and ears. The cheek straps would sit too close to their eyes, and the nosebands did not offer enough adjustment.

I wanted a bridle that fitted my horses comfortably and also allowed the P*e Wee Horse Bit to sit in the correct position.

That is why I designed the Innovative Equestrian Bridle. 🤎

It has extra adjustment holes spaced closer together, making it easier to position the P*e Wee correctly without creating wrinkles at the corners of the mouth.

The longer browband gives more room around the poll and ears, while the bridle sits neatly away from the horse’s eyes. I have also included an extra noseband piece to provide greater adjustment for horses with different head shapes.

The easy halter clip allows you to lead your horse without placing pressure on the bit—something I especially value when trail riding, working through obstacles or helping children learn safely.

I designed the bridle I wished I could find for my own horses.

Available in Pony, Regular and Extra Large, in black or brown.

Have you ever wondered how much room there really is inside your horse’s mouth?
You might look at a large horse and assume they have plenty of room for a bit. But some heavier horses have thicker tongues and fuller, fleshier lips—leaving much less usable space than their size might suggest.
At the other end of the scale, finer breeds such as Arabians may also have limited room due to the individual shape of their mouth and palate.
The truth is, you cannot judge the size of a horse’s mouth simply by looking at the size of the horse.
Just like us, every horse is different.
Some have thicker tongues. Some have lower palates. Some have less space between the upper and lower jaw, while others have full, sensitive lips that may be pinched by the rings of a conventional bit.
And this is not something we have simply made up.
A veterinary study involving 554 horses and ponies found considerable variation in mouth width, tongue thickness and the distance between the upper and lower jaw. The researchers also found many horses were wearing bits that did not fit correctly—including bits that compressed the tongue between the jaws.
(Anttila, Raekallio & Valros, 2022, “Oral Dimensions Related to Bit Size in Adult Horses and Ponies,” Frontiers in Veterinary Science.)
When a bit takes up too much room, a horse may try to tell us by opening their mouth, tossing their head, putting their tongue over the bit, chewing excessively or resisting the contact.
Sometimes what appears to be a training problem may simply be a horse trying to find comfort.
This is one of the reasons the P*e Wee Horse Bit was designed with a slimmer mouthpiece—to give the tongue more room and allow the mouthpiece to move as the horse chews and swallows.
The rings fold away from the lips to help avoid pinching the sensitive corners of the mouth, while the outside bars provide a clear, gentle lateral signal.
Because good communication begins with listening to the horse. 🐴
Australian-designed and patented, the P*e Wee Horse Bit has been helping horses and riders communicate more comfortably for over 20 years.

🐴 Have you ever wondered why some horses seem happier in one bit than another?

It isn't always about the rider's hands.

Sometimes it's simply about how much room your horse has inside its mouth.

Every horse is different. Some have thick tongues, low palates or simply don't have much space. When a bit takes up too much room, a horse may try to tell us by chewing excessively, opening its mouth, putting its tongue over the bit or becoming resistant.

The P*e Wee Horse Bit was designed with a different approach. Its unique, slimmer floating mouthpiece gives the tongue more room while encouraging soft, relaxed communication.

Because when a horse is comfortable, everything else becomes a little easier.

💬 What's the biggest change you've noticed when your horse is truly comfortable in their bit? We'd love to hear your experience.
