But more importantly… show us the man who “didn’t want a stupid dog” along with the stupid dog they didn't want....

Now he’s sharing his pillow with it, calling it mate, and sending you photos because “look how he’s sleeping.” 😂

We had the small breed dog school this morning. I had 5 dogs turn up which was excellent. The dogs were Millie, Maisie, Dougy, Lucy and Jaeger.

We started with some anxiety and barking, but everyone soon settled once we started walking and sniffing.

It was Dougy and Millie's first time, so I was really happy when they became more comfortable and confident during the lesson.

We did some work on focus, counting games, leave it and moving them away from triggers. We ended with step up and snuffle mats.

I am a very happy trainer and look forward to the next lesson in two weeks.

This one gets passed around constantly: mess with your puppy's food while they eat so they "get used to it," and guarding will never develop.

It's backwards.

Interrupting a puppy while they eat is more likely to create frustration, and frustration is exactly what fuels resource guarding down the road. Think about how you'd feel if someone reached into your plate at a restaurant and started taking your fries. Once might get a laugh. Every single meal, and you'd eventually snap too.

Dogs are no different. Let them eat in peace, and build trust around food through calm, predictable routines instead of testing them at every meal.

I had 7 group members turn up today including a new duo! Caitlin and Kali. Kali is a 9 year old Kelpie who I have worked with in the past. She was a bit uncertain to start with, but Caitlin was patient and she started to settle. That is the way we introduce new dogs to dog school – letting them make the decision when they are comfortable to join the group.

During puppy school, we did some work with ‘leave it’ and then when the other dogs arrived, we did some long lead work. We went for a bush walk, then worked on stay, recall, sending our dogs to a mat, loose lead walking and other bits and pieces. We finished with some sniffy games and jumps. It was a fantastic lesson!

The next lesson is on the 19th September and it will be at the Manjimup Heritage Park. The circus will be in town, so Tiger’s football ground isn’t available. See you then!

I had an in house session today with Pablo the Labrador!!! We worked on his stay skills when he was on his mat, advanced sniffy games and putting items in a bucket.

It is always great to spend time with Pablo and today was not any different.

I look forward to seeing him next week!
