One of the things we worked on with Olly this weekend was waiting calmly in the car before being released.

It might seem simple, but teaching a solid “wait” is all about safety. We don’t want our dogs launching out of the car and into a car park or traffic. Instead, we want them checking in with us and waiting for permission before getting out.

Little skills like this make a big difference in everyday life.

A couple of weeks on from our first session and Buster is already making better decisions.

His mum & dad have been putting in the work and it shows.

At our follow-up session we built on those foundations and worked on:

• Loose lead walking
• Permission-based sniffing
• Place & Spot
• Wait
• Rewarding calm

Buster is still a young Rottie with plenty of enthusiasm, but he’s learning that he doesn’t need to investigate every tree and every distraction. He’s learning that the world comes through mum, and because of that, he’s making better choices.

Great work team. The hard work you’re putting in now will pay off when Buster grows into a big boy

Milo was back for round two this week and safe to say he’s still got plenty to say about the world 😅

The difference this time? His brain is starting to catch up with his enthusiasm.

Last session was all about slowing him down, keeping four paws on the floor and teaching him that paying attention to his humans was worth his while. This week we started building on those foundations with the name game, leave it, left and right turns, and introducing a brand new lay cue.

One of Milo’s biggest wins has been how often he’s checking in with his humans on walks. Instead of charging through life at 100km/h, we’re starting to see him look to his human for guidance.

We also had a chat about thresholds. Sometimes training isn’t about getting your dog’s attention back, sometimes it’s about getting the hell out of there, creating some space and then helping them make better decisions once they can actually think again.

Milo is a clever little dog with a lot of personality. Every session we’re seeing more focus, more engagement and a little less “hello, I’d like to meet absolutely everyone please.”

Can’t wait to see what he brings to our next session.
