**WILDLIFE BELONGS WILD — EVEN WHILE IN CARE 🐾**

Wildlife rehabilitation has changed a lot over the years, and so has our understanding of what is best for the animals in our care.

At Wildlife Rehabilitation Queensland, animals being rehabilitated for release are **not used for fundraising displays or public handling**.

You won’t see our rehabilitators or partnered sanctuaries sitting in shopping centres with possums, joeys or other wildlife on their laps for people to pat or photograph.

Why? Because every interaction matters.

Wildlife in care needs to remain wary of people, experience as little unnecessary handling and stress as possible, and develop the behaviours they will need when they return to the wild.

We are always grateful for community support and donations — but the welfare and successful rehabilitation of the animal must come first.

**Our wildlife is in care for one reason: to get back to the wild. 🌿**

We got a Facebook message on Saturday evening from a MOP Tim Pengally who took the time to stop and check a pouch of a pretty faced wallaby out at Devereaux Creek. Sadly mum was deceased from a vehicle hit. The pouch check revealed a little male pinky. Tim and his family kindly met me in town with the pinky all wrapped up. “Devy” is thankful uninjured and is feeding well. He weighs in at 290g. Thanks to Tim a life is saved.
This is an important reminder to stop and check injured or dead wildlife on our roads. If female marsupial check the pouch. If pinky still attached to teat please don’t pull off. The teat has to be safely cut - if you don’t know how, please a wildlife rescue group.
Keep them warm and safe. Your body heat is perfect if you can
Our hotline number is 0447 543 268.

My visiting mummy possum, Miche, who I rehabilitated and released in 2024, comes and goes as she pleases getting a little support as she needs. This is her 3rd Joey she has brought home to show me. This little girl did not want to venture out until she could fit no longer. She finally came out last night for the first time. So precious

Increasing concern with this terrible virus. We all need to keep up to date and aware / especially wildlife groups called into rescue situations.
