🌿 Join Us at Bunnings North Mackay! 🌿

Come along this Thursday from 6pm–8pm and visit the Australian Wildlife Rescue Service CQ inc at North Mackay Bunnings for a fun and interactive evening! 🐾

We’ll have:
🎯 Wildlife games for the kids
🎁 Lucky dips
🛍️ Locally made wildlife crafts
📺 A live video feed of our adorable possums being fed

It’s a great chance to learn more about local wildlife, support rescue efforts, and enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly evening 💚

We would like to say a huge thank you to Wild Tribe Clothing Exchange & Preloved Clothing for their incredibly generous donation of blankets and clothing to support our wildlife carers. 🐨💚
These beautiful donations will go directly to our carers who are welcoming new wildlife into their care. The blankets will help keep animals warm, safe and comfortable while they recover and grow stronger.

This afternoon saw a couple of amazing rescues undertaken by our dedicated team. The hotline received a call from MOP in Slade Point who had an injured goanna in her front yard. Our fearless Secretary jumped into action, even ripping up decking (with permission) to rescue this little fellow. After dropping off at the Vet, she jumped into the next rescue with our President, of a squirrel glider entangled
In barb wire at Dumbleton. We believe this little guy will make a full recovery. Just two of our amazing team devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of our precious wildlife. Great work ladies.

🔥 This is the ECHIDNA - A Mammal That Lays Eggs?! 😲

Native to Australia and New Guinea, the Echidna is one of the very few mammals on Earth that lays eggs.

Covered in sharp spines and equipped with a long sticky tongue, it feeds mainly on ants and termites.

When threatened, it curls into a ball or digs straight into the ground, disappearing almost instantly.

✨ Fun Fact: Echidnas can sense electrical signals from their prey using their snout!

🔥 This is the YELLOW-BELLIED GLIDER JOEY - The Cutest Little Glider! 😍

Native to eastern Australia, the yellow-bellied glider joey spends its early life safely tucked in its mother’s pouch before riding on her back.

This tree-dwelling marsupial glides between trees using a skin membrane, feeding on sap, nectar and insects.

Seeing a joey outside the pouch is rare and incredibly special.

✨ Fun Fact: Yellow-bellied gliders can glide over 100 meters in a single leap!
