When reading horsemanship or anatomy or hoof theory. I like the saying " if it cant be understood by a 5th grader then chances are the person teaching dosen't know there topic enough"

WORMS......
And other
Parasites

A topic that seems to cause a lot of confusion among equine owners.

After listening to another podcast discussing parasite management, FECs, paddock cleaning and the recommendation to worm only high shedders, I can certainly empathise with equine lovers trying to navigate this topic.

Especially those living in prime worm-growing climates like South East Queensland!

Yesterday, around 80% of the horses I saw showed visible health problems that, in my assessment, were associated with a heavy parasite burden.

These were horses that were loved and well cared for, with owners following the recommended parasite management advice.

When I’m seeing around 250 horses a month, observations like these are difficult to ignore. Repeatedly seeing horses experiencing problems despite their owners following current recommendations raises important questions about how we approach parasite management.

There is far too much to unpack in a single Facebook post, but I believe this is a conversation worth having. This is Not to criticise owners who are doing their best, but to keep questioning, learning and looking at what is actually happening in our horses in the field not just on paper.

Ultimately, their health and welfare must remain at the centre of the conversation.

P.S. Yes, my horses just got internal parasite control.

LAMINITIS… IN DRY TIMES LIKE NOW 🌾

It's not always the sugars!!!!!

Unless you're feeding supplements, processed feeds, or large amounts of high-sugar hay that are adding to the overall dietary load, we need to look beyond sugar alone.

Laminitis is inflammation of the sensitive laminae within the hoof. It can have multiple underlying causes, so we need to look at the bigger picture rather than automatically blaming sugars and insulin every time.

Every case needs to be assessed individually.

📸 This is approximately 10 weeks of hoof growth on a miniature pony with a history of laminitis.

At the time of this trim, the pony was inactive, which meant I could remove a substantial amount of hoof material.

⚠️ This is NOT something I would do in one trim on an active pony. Removing too much hoof at once can cause significant pain and discomfort, particularly when the pony is weight-bearing and moving around.

Hoof care isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. The horse, its history, its current condition and its comfort all matter.

✨ **A day full of colour, courage, laughter and a whole lot of heart.** ✨

Yesterday, we welcomed a beautiful bunch of ladies for our first Paint & Sip wearing Pink for those affected by Cancer, and I honestly came away with my heart so full. ❤️

There were so many little moments throughout the day that reminded me why bringing women together like this matters.

🎨 **It's okay to paint outside the lines.**

It's okay not to be perfect when you're learning something new.

My mum once said something along these lines to a child who was learning to colour, becoming frustrated and ready to give up because they weren't getting it right. That story was shared at her obituary, and it has stayed with me.

But yesterday, something magical happened. I overheard ladies saying those exact words to each other as they painted. 🥹❤️

A little piece of my mum's kindness was being passed on, without anyone even realising the significance it held for me.

**We never really know how far a few kind words can travel.**

🌸 **It's okay to accept help.**

Every person carries their own struggles. Sometimes life gets heavier than we ever expected, and some of us are carrying things others will never see.

As women, we are so conditioned to do it all, hold it all together and manage it all on our own.

But we aren't meant to do everything alone.

We are stronger together. There is strength in leaning on one another, in accepting a helping hand, and in allowing ourselves to be supported, too.

🎨 **And then there was the paint throwing!**

A little *F # # # CANCER!* energy, and a chance to throw some of that frustration, anger and emotion out into the world!

Sometimes we need to let it out LOUD! 😂💜

We've been conditioned to hold so much inside, to keep going, to be strong and to put on a brave face.

But you don't have to hold it all in.

Express yourself. Feel what you feel. Be messy, be loud, be colourful. Be the whole, beautiful, imperfect YOU.

And I had a little reminder of my own yesterday, too. 😂

I'm messy with my organisation, and hosting a function is definitely outside my comfort zone! 🤪

One beautiful lady said something along the lines of, *just because the way you do things doesn't look like the way someone else does them, doesn't make it any less valuable.*

And you know what? She's right.

We don't all have to do things the same way. We don't have to fit somebody else's picture of what perfect looks like.

Sometimes we just need to give ourselves the same grace we so freely give to others.

✨ **And lastly, don't wait.**

Don't wait until everything is perfect.
Don't wait until life is less busy.
Don't wait until you feel ready.

Time is precious. Life is precious.

Make the memories. Have the laugh. Give the hug. Say the words. Do the thing that brings you joy.

Laugh, love and LIVE. ❤️

To every beautiful woman who came along yesterday, thank you for sharing your time, your stories, your laughter and a little piece of yourselves with us.

Thank you for the kindness you showed each other, the encouragement, the courage and the colour you brought into the day.

You came to paint, but I think we all left with a little more than that.

**My heart is full. I hope yours is, too.** ✨💜🎨

🌧️ A LITTLE RAIN ON THE WAY! 🌧️

Apparently, we have some rain coming Tuesday — and I think we’ll all be very grateful to see it! 🙏

For those of us fighting fires and feeding horses through this dry spell, a decent drop of rain would be a huge relief.

Our creek, which our horses drink from, is now nearly running dry, and like many others, we’ve been looking at having to start carting water.

We’ve also been drought-feeding hay for months now, with my monthly feed bill reaching the equivalent of a house payment! 😳

I’m incredibly grateful for all the wonderful hay farmers who have worked so hard to keep hay available through winter. Many have now been out of stock, so we’ve been making do with whatever suitable hay we can source to keep the horses’ tummies full.

We all expect the dry season around this time of year, but this year certainly seems to be dragging on and feeling drier than previous years.

With fuel prices and the general cost of living also continuing to rise, we’re having to be a little more strategic with travel at the moment. We are also currently down one vehicle with a radiator issue.

So, for this week, I’ll be grouping bookings together by area wherever possible, and appointments will be limited to the Lockyer Valley areas.

🐴 CURRENT AVAILABILITY

Tuesday: Available if the rain holds off
Wednesday: Available
Thursday morning: Available
Friday morning: Limited availability
Saturday: No bookings — we’ll be setting up for our Paint & Sip event 🎨🐴
Sunday: Limited access/availability

Lessons at our property are also available.

And a reminder — we are back taking direct orders for our Gut Health products. 🐴💚

We’re hoping to have the products available to order directly online again very soon, which will make things much easier for everyone.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our small business through what has been a particularly challenging season. ❤️

Here’s hoping Tuesday brings us some much-needed rain! 🌧️🐴

Preparing kindly...
This mare, has a past. Has thrown a rider. Was not liking ppl much. And has some pretty quick instinct reactions.
I could start her via going through a saddling process and ground work, not hash just succesive till she was compliant and some what ok. Till one day she wasn't.
But that wouldn't rebuild this mares core faith in humanity.
The slow Preparing the bit by bit. Is more beneficial for her.
The gratitude and the softness felt is loud...
