Hanna here,

โ€‹It is a busy time of the year for most breeders in Australia; planning, selecting, sorting, and decision making on top of the usual chicken farm chores. It must have been quite stressful, as I came down with an illness yesterday afternoon, feeling really miserable.

โ€‹"Have a rest."

โ€‹Running a small business is a full on task. I wish we could only look after the chooks (& kids).
It gets really hard when I am the bookkeeper, photographer, customer service, and marketing team, manager and more. There are no weekends, no sick days, just endless office work and inquiries. Work multiplies like bacteria. ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€‹Today was one of those days.
โ€‹And just at that moment, I received these two messages : one in the morning & evening

โ€‹Please do know your kindness means a lot more than you think. I am feeling like the best chicken breeder in the entire universe in my own world today (I know I am not!).

โ€‹Thank you all.
I am so grateful to share this journey with you all.

โ€‹With feathers on top,
Hanna

โ€œWhy did you add gold into your beautiful Buff Laced Polish?โ€
โ€œI only want Buff Laced, not Gold.โ€

โ€‹We hear these comments quite often. Buff Laced Polish are undoubtedly one of the most beloved varieties we work with, and their delicate patterns make it easy to see why.

โ€‹We introduced a Gold Laced line to our breeding pens, but it wasn't to shift our focus to a new color. Itโ€™s actually our secret to keeping our main Buff Laced flock vibrant and beautifully patterned.

โ€‹In the precise (and sometimes unpredictable) world of poultry genetics, continuously pairing Buff with Buff over multiple seasons gradually leads to washed out, poorly defined lacing. By carefully managing our lines and strategically introducing Gold genetics, we preserve the crisp, stunning contrast that makes the Buff feathers so spectacular.

โ€‹Mother Nature certainly keeps us on our toes, but seeing those perfectly marked chicks hatch makes all the behind the scenes matchmaking entirely worthwhile. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”

As the new season approaches, we have been receiving an abundant number of lovely inquiries regarding fertile eggs, chicks, and pullets. To keep things simple and fair, our rule remains the same:

Short answer:
We do not take or maintain waiting lists.

Long answer:
โ€‹One. Mother Nature is in charge. Breeding poultry rarely goes by the textbook, and there are always unpredictable variables from unexpected fertility drops to roosters occasionally firing blanks and many more. We simply do not want to promise or make you wait for something we do not physically have in our hands yet.

โ€‹Two. Being in the Adelaide Hills, our frosty winters mean our breeding season starts a bit later than in the eastern states. You will likely see eggs available elsewhere before ours are ready, and if you choose to buy from another great breeder, that is perfectly fine.

Once eggs are in the incubator and hatching successfully, we will release the stock on our website. Please use "Notify me" under the each product if you wish to be notified when we start to take orders. From that point, we will take "back orders" take payment and provide approximate availability dates.

Managing 26 breeding groups makes tracking individual message requests impossible, so our automated "first ordered, first served" website system ensures everyone gets a fair go.

โ€‹*Chicks & Pullets*
All chicks are initially offered as dayolds, and we do not hold specific chicks back for the older pullet market. Any unsold dayolds will be raised here, meaning we cannot predict exactly what, when, or how many older pullets we will have available later. You will simply be able to pick from whatever is listed on the website at the time of your order.

A few yrs back we have made the decision not to spend time advertising on external poultry pages or groups; instead, we choose to pour all our energy directly into caring for our flock, our own page & our followers. We are so incredibly grateful to be kept busy by our loyal customers who return every season, and the new ones who find us through word of mouth. We will always be here for you.

โ€‹As always, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continuous support and understanding.

Have you ever walked out to the coop to find a chicken with its head twisted completely upside down, tucked between its legs, or walking in circles? It is incredibly scary to witness, but before you panic, it might just be Wry Neck.

โ€‹Wry neck (often called stargazing or torticollis) is a neurological symptom. While the most frequent culprit is a nutritional deficiency, there are a few other common causes:

-โ€‹ In young chicks: Incubation errors or poor hen nutrition.
โ€ข โ€‹Genetics & Absorption: Just like humans, some birds simply struggle to absorb certain nutrients even if they are given the exact same feed as the rest of the flock.
โ€ข โ€‹Physical trauma: A direct head injury or accident.

ยฐโ€‹The Treatment
The winning combination to fix this is Vitamin E combined with Selenium. We simply use human-grade Vitamin E capsules paired with an animal tonic like Anitone for the Selenium.

โ€ผ๏ธRemember: Vitamin E needs Selenium to be absorbed correctly, but Selenium can be toxic, so only a tiny amount is required.

ยฐโ€‹Supportive Care
This is the most important part of the recovery process. Because their head is twisted, they cannot physically access their food or water. They need to be placed in a warm, quiet isolation crate, and you will need to patiently hand-feed them a wet mash and gently guide their beak to water. It can take days or even a couple of weeks of consistent care to see improvement, but they can absolutely make a full recovery.

ยฐโ€‹A Note on Breeding
If a bird's wry neck was caused by an inability to absorb nutrients from their feed, it can recur and is potentially inheritable. Any bird that has shown wry neck symptoms should never be included in a breeding program unless the root cause (like a physical injury) is absolutely clear.

โ€‹Have you ever successfully treated a case of wry neck in your flock? Feel free to share your story.
