Our locally bred Marbled OB Peacock Cichlids are available now! 🐟

These colourful little cichlids are around 4–6cm and ready for their next homes! 💙

Also known as Orange Blotch Peacocks, these specific OBs have a distinctive blue gene, giving them beautiful combinations of blue, white and black markings. 💙 Their marbled patterns vary from fish to fish, meaning no two have exactly the same markings and every one has its own unique look! 👀

At this size, they’re still growing, and their colours and patterns can continue to develop as they mature. It’s exciting seeing how these young peacocks change as they grow! ❤️

Marbled OB Peacocks make a fantastic addition to a suitably sized African cichlid aquarium, alongside compatible fish with similar size and temperament.

🐚 Our Multies are available now! 🐟

One of our favourite little cichlids, the Neolamprologus multifasciatus, is ready for its next home! 💙

Also known as Multi Shell Dwellers or Shellies, these tiny Lake Tanganyika cichlids have loads of personality. Watching them claim shells, move them around and build their own little territories is always entertaining!

They’re a great choice for aquarists looking for something a little different, especially in a dedicated shell-dweller setup.

These little guys are like a moving underwater painting, constantly shifting shells, digging and rearranging their surroundings. You might look at your tank one day and find it completely different the next! 🐚👀

🐟 Our local breeders are hard at work! 💙

Our Marbled OB Peacock Cichlids are getting closer to being ready! 👀

These little ones are sitting around 4cm at the moment and growing along nicely. We’re just giving them a little more time to put on some size before they’re ready for their next homes.

Swipe through to see one of the juveniles alongside a few photos of adults! Adult OBs show off those beautiful marbled patterns and colours that make these peacocks so eye-catching. ❤️

A big thank you to our local breeders for the time, care and effort they put into raising these fish. Supporting local breeders is a big part of what we do, and we’re proud to work alongside them. 💙

We’ll share another update when these little beauties are ready!

🌿 A little update on our new plant & shrimp tank! 👀🦐

You might remember we shared this project a while back, a dedicated tank we're putting together with plans to eventually bring in aquarium plants and Neocaridina shrimp.

Progress has been a little slower than planned, but we're still working on it behind the scenes!

One of the next steps was building the matten filter, which is now installed and ready to become the main filtration for the future shrimp colony. 🦐

Why a matten filter?

They're a great option for shrimp tanks because they provide plenty of biological filtration while creating a large, gentle filtration surface that is much less likely to suck up tiny shrimp and shrimplets.

We've also put together a guide showing how we built our matten filter, including the materials and setup.

👉 Want to build your own? Check out the guide on our website:

https://www.rippleeffectaquatics.com.au/blogs/how-to-set-up-your-aquarium/matten-filters-how-they-work-how-to-build-one-why-theyre-great-for-aquariums

There's still plenty more to do before this tank is finished, but we're slowly getting there! 🌿🦐

Stop losing fry and shrimplets to aggressive filter intakes. Learn how to build a gentle, zero-risk DIY shrimp filter that doubles as a giant feeding wall.

❤️ Look who's starting to grow!

Our locally bred Dragon Blood Peacock juveniles have been settling in really well and are starting to put on some good size. At around 5cm now, they're becoming much more confident, exploring their surroundings and looking happy and healthy.

It's always cool watching young cichlids grow and seeing their personalities and colours start coming through.

As they mature, the males will develop that deep red/pink colour they're known for, absolutely stunning fish! ❤️ The females will generally retain more of the colouration you can see here.

It's always exciting watching them grow and seeing those colours develop! 👀🐟

A new project is starting in the fish room 👀🌿🦐

We've been a bit quiet lately, but there's something exciting in the works!

We’re putting together a dedicated planted aquarium with the goal of expanding into aquarium plants and Neocaridina shrimp in the future.

The tank is currently cycling, with plenty of plans ahead, including upgrading the setup (RGB lighting for plant health and substrates), building a matten filter and creating a healthy environment for a future shrimp colony.

It’s only the beginning, but we’re excited to share the journey as this tank develops!
