Blue Laced Silver Wyandotte Project
Blue Laced Silver (BLS) Wyandottes can be produced by crossing a silver laced male over splash laced red/gold females. This pairing typically results in blue laced silver females, while the males are usually blue laced silver with some red/gold leakage on their shoulders and wings.
Both pullets and cockerels may show varying degrees of leakage in the silver, and it generally takes several generations of selective breeding—pairing the females back to a quality silver laced rooster—to refine the colouring. From these pairings, you can expect a mix of silver laced and blue laced silver offspring.
Last year’s hatch included a combination of 2nd and 3rd generation BLS birds. The pullet shown in the first photos is developing very close to the desired colouring and will be retained for this year’s breeding program.
The remaining lovely girls are now available and would make excellent backyard layers or a great starting point for anyone looking to begin their own BLS project.
