🌟 Sensitive Stomach Diets: What Works & What Doesn’t? 🌟

Vomiting, loose stools, excessive wind or an unsettled tummy can make life uncomfortable for your pet. But with so many foods marketed for sensitive digestion, how do you know what actually helps?

What works❓

✔️ The right diet: A highly digestible, complete and balanced food can help support digestive health.
✔️ Premium and prescription diets: Specially formulated diets can help manage digestive problems. Some pets may benefit from a veterinary gastrointestinal diet, while others need a specific diet to investigate suspected food allergies or intolerances.
✔️ Consistency: Gradually transition to new food and avoid frequent diet changes, which can make symptoms harder to manage.
✔️ The right advice: Our vets can help identify the likely cause of your pet's symptoms and recommend an appropriate diet.

🚫 What doesn’t?

❌ Assuming grain-free is better: Grain-free foods aren't automatically easier to digest. Food allergies can involve different ingredients, so it's important to identify the actual problem.
❌ Constantly switching foods: Trying one food after another can make it difficult to work out what's helping.
❌ Too many treats and table scraps: Extra foods can trigger digestive upsets or interfere with a prescribed dietary trial.
❌ Relying on home remedies: Pumpkin, yoghurt and supplements aren't suitable for every pet. Check with our vets before adding them to your pet's diet.

🐶 When should you seek help?

Recurring vomiting, diarrhoea, appetite changes or unexplained weight loss deserve veterinary attention. Severe symptoms, blood in vomit or stools, marked weakness or significant abdominal pain need urgent assessment.

Is your pet having tummy troubles❓
Every pet is different, and there's no single diet that suits every sensitive stomach.
Chat with our vets about the best nutritional approach for their individual needs.

🌟 Tako 🌟

Happy boy Tako visited us recently for snake aversion training!

During the warmer days of Spring, snakes become more active as they leave their winter retreats in search of a mate and food, so it's vital that dogs are taught to avoid them. 🐍

🔹If you are walking your dog in bushland or grassy areas, take care to walk in cleared areas only such as bush trails and pathways.
🔹Keep your dog on a lead
🔹Wear long trousers and enclosed footwear
🔹Keep a lookout on the ground ahead of you where snakes may be sunning themselves.
🔹Hungry snakes will be attracted to sheds and outbuildings where mice and rats breed in rubbish and under building materials such as corrugated iron sheets. Keep these areas free from debris and ensure that your pets do not have access.

🌟 Halloween Warning: Fake spider webs can be dangerous for pets and wildlife! 🌟

Those stretchy, fluffy fake spider webs might look spooky, but they can pose a real danger to the animals around us. 🎃🕷️

Wildlife at risk: Birds and other wildlife can become entangled in artificial webbing, leaving them trapped, injured or unable to escape predators. Smaller creatures can also become caught in the fine strands.

🟠 Pets aren't immune: Curious cats and dogs may chew on or swallow synthetic webbing, potentially causing choking or dangerous intestinal blockages. Entanglement can also cause injury.

🕸️ Want to decorate safely this Halloween❓
✔️ Skip stretchy synthetic spider webs, especially outdoors.
✔️ Choose decorations that don't create loose strands or loops animals can become tangled in.
✔️ Keep decorations out of reach of curious pets.
✔️ Bring outdoor decorations inside when Halloween is over.

You can still create a wonderfully spooky Halloween without putting our furry, feathered and tiny neighbours at risk. 😊

Happy Halloween! 🎃👻🐈‍⬛
