Flying Frosty Wins Again 🚀

Trinder Racing took 6 runners to Sunday’s Devonport Racing Club at Ladbrokes All Weather Spreyton meeting and went home a winner thanks to a talented sprinter.

Speedster Thoros Of Myr (5g Frosted x Arachne) relished the drop in distance to score a strong all the way win in the Seba Sheetmetal Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1009m.

Frosty was only fair to begin but with visiting apprentice Bree Temple aboard, he mustered speed and ran to a clear lead before taking the field through the first bend. From there he was allowed to run along a couple of lengths clear of the field, a margin he held around the bend and into the straight. His rivals made no impression in the run to the line and he ran past the post over a length clear in a dominant win.

Thoros Of Myr ran the 1009m journey in 59.32 seconds, about 7 lengths outside Alpine Wolf’s track record. The tempo was strong with his high cruising speed, but the highlight on the clock was his sectional from the 400m to the 200m of 11.40 seconds. This was the second fastest on the entire day and given he was able to reel it off when already a couple of lengths in front of the field, it made the task near impossible for his rivals to chase him down. This was his second win over this course and he looks ahead now to an Open handicap over this course in a fortnight where the rise in grade will bring him some weight relief.

Our congratulations go to owner/breeder Rob Schaeche and all connections involved with Frosty. This was his 8th win at start number 22 and he has now earned over $166,000 in prizemoney. We thank Bree for her well-rated winning ride and Iron Horse Equine Nutrition for their ongoing support of our stable.

Girls Good For Home Track Treble 🐴 🔴🟡♦️

Racing was back on our home track at Devonport Racing Club at Ladbrokes All Weather Spreyton on Sunday and with 9 runners on the program, Trinder Racing was delighted to lead in 3 winners.

Our first winner was the well bred filly Nunkeri (3f Hanseatic x Triple Asset) who was too good for a handy field in the 1150m Kevin Sharkie 3yo Maiden.

The filly we call Trixie drove through to find the front after beginning well and was able to dictate a steady tempo from there. She travelled nicely turning for home and when the challenge came, she was equal to the task to hold her rivals at bay and break her maiden status.

The overall time of 1:08.70 was reasonable for this grade and nearly identical to the Class 1 later in the program off a much slower lead time. Nunkeri’s best section was the 400m to the 200m, where she ran 11.56 seconds which ranked 9th on the day. That turn of foot when the challengers were coming was crucial to what ended up being a soft win on the line.

We congratulate owner Wayne Roser on his win with the filly purchased at the Magic Millions Tasbreeders - representing Tasmania's Thoroughbred Breeding Industry Yearling Sale for $30,000. By picking up the Tasbred bonus on offer she has now earned over $45,000 in her 7 start career, having also run a 3rd placing prior to this maiden win. We thank Erica Byrne Burke for a lovely rated ride in front as she continues her hot run of form.

Our second winner was another to break their maiden in Khaleesi’s Dream (3f Ghaiyyath x Dothraki Princess), who was dominant in the Goodstone Group Maiden over 1350m.

Erica tried to go forward on Candice from her outside gate but with her rivals kicking up underneath her, she had to abort those plans and eased back to race midfield. She was caught a little wide and then avoided a midrace mishap before cruising into the race strongly on the bend and when they straightened she led by a couple of lengths. She continued on her merry way in the straight, racing right away to score an impressive victory by over 8 lengths.

The overall time of 1:21.72 was about 4 lengths slower than the Benchmark 60 that followed, off a slightly slower lead time. Her best section was also the 400m to the 200m, with her 11.52 split ranking 8th on the program. While she was about 1.5 seconds outside the track record held by her mother Dothraki Princess, it was pleasing to see her overcome some minor difficulties in the run in such dominant fashion and break through for win number 1.

We congratulate owner/breeder Rob Schaeche and connections on their first success here with Khaleesi’s Dream. She has been most consistent to start her career, finishing in the first 3 at all 5 runs and with the Tasbred bonus awarded for winning this race she has now earned over $53,000. Thanks to Erica for a well judged ride when things didn’t go to plan early, showing why she is a clear leader in the premiership.

Our third and final winner on the program was the in-form mare Lady Galadriel (4m Needs Further x Miss Joolia) who was too strong for a competitive field in the Caro’s Creative Crew Benchmark 72 over 1150m.

With a couple of speedsters up front, the mare we call Poppit was able to use her inside draw to find a lovely trailing position and as the field opened up around the bend, she worked into the race sweetly with plenty of racing room. As the leaders felt the pinch she swept to the lead at the 200m and stayed on strongly to the line to score a comfortable win by a length.

The overall time of 1:08.24 was about 3 lengths faster than the other two 1150m races on the program, with potentially more merit to this time after solid rain came during the meeting. Her cruising speed mid-race was key to this win - her last 1000m of 57.12 seconds was the fastest on the program, helped by a 11.46 split from the 600m to the 400m mark which was the 2nd quickest of the day. That ability to travel into the race behind the two leaders and put a gap on the rest of the field held her in good stead and it was a reasonably painless watch for favourite backers.

Lady Galadriel made it a double for owner/breeder Rob Schaeche and connections and we congratulate them on her 5th career win. In just 12 lifetime starts she has now earned over $138,000 in stakes, with all 5 wins coming in this distance range. Thanks again to Erica for another outstanding ride and we congratulate her on a winning treble which takes her to 74 wins for the season. Thanks also to Iron Horse Equine Nutrition for their ongoing support.

🟥🟨 Marlee Too Good In Hobart 🟨🟥

Trinder Racing took just one runner to the meeting at Tasmanian Racing Club Inc in Hobart on Sunday and it was a successful trip that ended with a winner.

Honest mare Skelmorlie (5g Needs Further x Wagga Wagga) was well supported in her second run from a break and proved far too strong in the 1600m Benchmark 60, courtesy of a lovely ride by premiership-leading rider Erica Byrne Burke.

The mare we call Marlee jumped alright off the inside draw but drifted back quickly to settle at the rear of the field. The lead tempo was strong so she was as many as 12 lengths from the lead down the back but always travelling nicely. Erica stayed nearer the inside rather than come wide into the clear and she picked her way through the field nicely, striking the lead at the 150m mark and drawing away to win comfortably.

The overall time of 1:39.03 was about 7 lengths faster than the Class 1 1600m later in the program. Part of the reason was the much stronger tempo - while Skelmorlie settled last in her race, her first 1000m time was fast enough that she would have led the Class 1 at the 600m mark. While her late sectionals ranked only fairly on the program, her last 800m of 48.04 seconds was the 17th fastest of the day and the fastest of any horse that raced over 1600m and further. She was successful over longer distances last preparation and looks to be heading in the right direction to perform well in staying races again this time in.

We congratulate owner Leah Goodrick on Marlee’s 3rd win at start number 23. She was purchased as a maiden as a tried horse and has now earned over $92,000, helped by an additional 9 placings in a consistent career. We thank Erica for a fantastic ride and congratulate her on another winning double, and also thank Iron Horse Equine Nutrition for their continued support of our stable.

✨ Four To Finish The Night Season ⚡️

It was the last night racing meeting of the season on Friday at Tasmanian Turf Club Inc. and for Trinder Racing we finished with a bang, landing 4 winners with the 9 runners we took to the track.

Our first winner was McVeigh (3g Stratosphere x Louise) who broke through for his first win in the 1220m Maiden.

Off the inside barrier, the gelding we call Louis began well and was able to hold the fence near the lead for the first time in his short career so far. He held his position despite being challenged wider on the track for much of the race, and was able to rail through strongly on turning. He kicked away on straightening and never looked like losing from there on, running through the line strongly to win by over 3 lengths.

McVeigh’s overall time of 1:14.34 was the slowest of the three 1220m races on the program, although he was only a couple of lengths slower than Aristopolos. Interestingly he ran the 3rd fastest 800m-600m section of the night in 11.66 seconds, which shows the work he had to do when challenged mid-race. The fact he could then finish his race off in 12.34 seconds for his last 200m - the 14th fastest on the program - suggests there was probably more merit to the win than the overall time may indicate, and it was pleasing to see him finish off as strongly as he did.

McVeigh - named after former Tasmania Jackjumper star Jack McVeigh - is owned by Leah Goodrick and we congratulate her on her success with a homebred who was born and raised on the farm. He picks up the Tasbred bonus here so with his first win at start number 4 he has already earned over $44,000. We thank Kelvin Sanderson for his winning ride as he executed the pre-race plan to perfection and came back with the desired result.

Leah had a second win in race 3 thanks to Just Bobby (4g Tough Speed x Fan Tan) who scored a strong win in the 1620m Maiden.

Also ridden by Kelvin, he rolled forward from a middle draw but found some unexpected speed underneath which left him caught in a three-wide position. He also wanted to overrace but eventually settled and relaxed despite racing wide and facing the breeze. After gaining that breather he applied pressure wider on the track as they approached the bend and straightened for home with a 2 length lead. Given the work he had done in the run he was entitled to lay down in the straight but he stayed on strongly and claimed the major prize by just over a length.

Just Bobby ran the 1620m in 1:41.50, which was considerably slower than the Class 4 over the same trip that followed. His best section was his last 200m which ranked 30th on the program on a night dominated by shorter races. His early move for home was reflected in his section from the 400m to the 200m being the fastest in the race, and his ability to stay on strongly to the line from there suggests the longer distances are well within his grasp moving forward.

We congratulate Leah and the other connections on Bobby’s first win at start number 6 after a pair of second placings. With another Tasbred bonus available on this race, Just Bobby has now earned over $47,000 in his short career. Thanks again to Kelvin for his winning ride - he didn’t panic when caught wide and utilised the horse’s strength to take the race away from his rivals. It was also great to see the colours of the late Barry Goodrick salute twice in a great night for the stable.

Our 3rd winner was the ever consistent galloper Magnaprime (4g Magnus x Fast Legend) who was too good in the Open Handicap over 1420m.

Magnum found the lead comfortably with Erica Byrne Burke in the saddle and was able to dictate the tempo in the small field. Erica continued to lift the tempo as necessary to keep her rivals from making up ground down the side, and he turned for home with a clear lead. Nicco The Greek challenged valiantly but Magnaprime kept him at bay to score by just under a length.

The overall time of 1:27.07 was clearly the fastest of the three 1420m races on the program by at least 4 lengths, despite being run at the slowest early tempo of the 3. Erica used Magnaprime’s cruising speed to continue building the pace down the side to his advantage, which looks to have taken the sting out of the chasers as Magnum was able to finish off in the fastest last 200m in the race. That sustained speed has been a strength of his all preparation and Erica has been rating him to perfection.

Congratulations to all connections on Magnaprime’s 8th win at at start number 17. His career earnings are now just a touch shy of $270,000, after being a $60,000 buy at the Tasbreeders - representing Tasmania's Thoroughbred Breeding Industry Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2023. This was his 5th win this preparation and he will now enjoy a much deserved break. Thanks to Erica for her winning ride, which was her 5th on this gelding and she has won at her past 3 rides on him.

Our final winner was another consistent older galloper in Cherokee Dancer (5m Harry Angel x Bint Cherokee) who beat a small but talented field in the 1120m Benchmark 76.

From the inside draw Harriett settled with a lovely trail behind a good tempo. As the leader came back to the field on turning, Erica was able to drive Harriett through a gap on the inside and sprinted to the lead. The favourite In The Ocean was also finishing hard out wide but Cherokee Dancer drew away in the concluding stages to win by half a length.

Cherokee Dancer ran 1:07.76 in winning and once again she produced blistering late sectionals in doing so. She ran the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m sections on the night, with only In The Ocean running a slightly faster last 200m. Harriett has always been capable of running home in slick time when able to settle behind the speed with cover and proved that once again here.

We congratulate owner Wayne Roser on his success with his $26,000 Magic Millions buy from the Adelaide sale. This was her 7th win at start number 25 and with an additional 9 placings, she has won over $163,000 in stakes. Thanks to Erica for her winning ride which gave her another treble, stretching her premiership lead to 23 wins. Last but not least, thanks again to Iron Horse Equine Nutrition for their support of our stable.
