This year has been full of wonderful dogs, dedicated guardians, plenty of wins (both big and small), and more than a few moments that have reminded me why I love this job so much.

However, even when you love your job you sometimes need a break. I wanted to let everyone know that I'll be taking the month of August off for a holiday. ☀️

I'm also fully booked before I leave, so I won't be able to fit in any more consultations this month. If you've been thinking about booking in, please feel free to send through a website enquiry for September and beyond, I'd love to see you when I'm back.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their dogs, recommended my services, or simply followed along here. Your support means the world to my little business.

Now it's time for a few weeks away... before I come home and happily get covered in dog hair all over again. 🐾❤️

Separation anxiety is probably my least favourite type of anxiety to work with.

Not because it's the most challenging to modify, but because of the enormous impact it has on both the dog and the people who love them. Dogs with separation anxiety can experience genuine panic when left alone, and their guardians often have to reshape their entire lives around it. Work schedules change, social lives shrink, errands become logistical puzzles, and family and friends are regularly called upon to help. It can be exhausting, isolating and all-consuming. But then there are days like yesterday.

Using ACE Freework, Jasper was able to stay home alone without distress for over 10 minutes. For many people, that probably doesn't sound like much. But for Jasper's guardian, it was the longest he'd been able to leave him alone in four years.

There may have been a few tears... but you didn't hear that from me.🤫

Jasper is the sweetest, cutest, most adorable senior (he's almost 10!) and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him. Today wasn't about "fixing" separation anxiety. It was about giving Jasper the opportunity to feel safe, to make good choices, and to discover that being alone doesn't have to be scary.

I can't wait to keep working with you, Jasper. You're one brave, determined little guy, and I know we're going to help both you and your family find a little more freedom and a lot more confidence along the way.

Meet my Saturday night date, Rufus! I first met Rufus when he was a young puppy needing help to learn how to navigate the world, and prepare for a new baby in the house. Now Rufus is a really delightful teenager and his family just wanted a few extra tips to get through this tricky phase. Seeing him and his family again was such a great way to end the day. Thanks for the snuggles Rufus ###

This is dear little Frisbee. He has been diagnosed with anxiety by his Vet and finds strangers (at the front door, next door, across the road, anywhere!) particularly scary. He is also easily triggered by noises. Dogs that are this worried sometimes find it hard to switch off and help themselves settle. Enter the Hol-Ee Roller! During our consult, Frisbee was completely fascinated by the one I introduced him to that was full of alpaca and sheep wool. He chose happily to engage with the enrichment tool even while the monster (ie. ME) was in the room and even walking around. It worked so well that his family got creative and bought him his own and filled it with felt strips that he loves to dive into and rip out. It is a joy to watch! Thank you to his family for sending this video to me and allowing me to share.

Meet Blue. 💙

Blue has been diagnosed with generalised anxiety and had previously worked with two trainers without seeing the progress his guardian had hoped for.

In our first session, using positive reinforcement, we worked within Blue's limits rather than pushing him beyond what he could cope with. We gave his guardian practical strategies to help him feel safer and more confident when venturing outside the home.

Even during the session, we could see encouraging changes in how he's coping with life beyond the front door. It's a wonderful reminder that understanding a dog's emotional needs and working at their pace can make a real difference.

Every dog deserves patience, kindness, and an approach that builds confidence. I'm looking forward to seeing Blue continue to grow.

Sometimes the dogs who need us most are also the ones trying the hardest to love us.

Recently I met beautiful Flossy. She hasn't had the easiest start to life, but despite everything she's been through, she's the sweetest, gentlest soul who is doing everything she can to make everyone around her fall in love with her.

Her new family are navigating something many people don't talk about—trying to open their hearts to a new dog while still grieving one they loved deeply. Grief doesn't have a timeline, and it doesn't mean there's any less love to give.

Relationships take time to grow, especially when both hearts are healing. But watching Flossy freely offer her trust, affection and hope was a lovely reminder that sometimes the best friendships aren't instant—they're built one small moment at a time.

Oakley didn’t have a great start to life, but he’s certainly landed on his paws now with the perfect guardian. Oakley finds lots of things highly arousing and really scary. His brain fires at 100 before ever having the chance to think. Oakley and his guardian have a long road ahead of them, but there is a lot support that can help them on their way and I look forward to playing my part.

This gentle, sensitive, sweet boy is Mackie. He’s only 9 months old and sometimes finds new things, and the world outside of home, a bit scary and overwhelming. Luckily Mackie has a family who are willing to be patient, let him take the lead, and encourage a slow build of confidence. There’s no rush and no pressure. We will pair scary with fabulous in our training to see if Mackie can learn to be brave and curious about the world at large 💚🩵

It's always nice to be asked to contribute to media stories about older dogs and CCD - something I think we need to talk about more often!

Is your senior dog suddenly taking shorter steps, staring at walls or forgetting their toilet training? While it is easy to write these off as your furry best friend simply slowing down, experts warn they could be subtle signs of dog dementia. Here is what to look out for.
