Dr Maddy – Kelpie
Smart, energetic and always up for an adventure! Loves nothing more than chasing birds and rabbits, although thankfully, as our exotic vet, she prefers to treat them rather than catch them!

Dr Abbie — Doberman
Calm, elegant and confident, with a gentle and affectionate side. Intelligent, loyal and full of personality. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to show it, a perfect mix of sophistication, strength and sweetness!

Dr Bridget — Golden Retriever
Friendly, always up for a laugh, loyal and everyone’s best mate. Always happy to help, always ready with a smile and the kind of person everyone wants on their team

HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY!

Today we celebrate the incredible dogs who have come into our lives and given us so much love, happiness, laughter and companionship. They have a way of making ordinary days better and leaving the biggest paw prints on our hearts.

An extra special shout out to the Vet2Pet staff dogs who are very much part of our extended clinic family — Honey, Doug, Eevee, Daisy May, Jessie, Skeeter, Lexi, Fawkes, Maverick, Hero, Harley and Maisie.

Some are professional couch loungers, some are ball-obsessed, some are a little bit chaotic… but every single one of them is deeply loved.

Here’s to the dogs who greet us like we’ve been gone for years, make us laugh when we need it most, and somehow convince us that sharing our dinner is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Happy National Dog Day to all our beautiful canine friends, past and present. We’re so lucky to have you.

***Bird Flu Update – What Pet Owners Need to Know***

We want to keep our clients informed about the current Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5 bird flu) situation in Australia and what our clinic is doing to prepare for the possibility of a significant outbreak.

Current situation (as of 23rd July, 11:00am):
Australia has confirmed 17 cases of H5 bird flu in wild birds:

• Western Australia – 10 cases
• South Australia – 5 cases
• New South Wales – 2 cases

There have been no confirmed cases in poultry or pet birds, and the current risk to the general public and pets remains low.

If you have a PET BIRD-

We are still seeing pet birds at the clinic, but strict biosecurity procedures are now in place to help protect our patients, clients and staff.

Please:

• Call the clinic first to discuss your bird’s symptoms and book an appointment.
• When you arrive, remain in your car and call reception to let us know you’re here.
• Keep your bird in the car until instructed. The Vet will likely come discuss symptoms and take your bird directly into a room.

If you find a SICK OR DEAD WILD BIRD-

Please do not touch or handle the bird.

Instead:

• Do not bring it to the clinic.
• Keep children and pets well away from the area.
• Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888 (available 24/7).
• If you have accidentally handled the bird, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

If you find an INJURED WILD BIRD (with no signs of bird flu)

We are still accepting injured wild birds with obvious traumatic injuries only, such as:

• Cat attacks
• Car strikes
• Broken wings or legs

To help keep everyone safe, we ask that you:

• Call us before bringing the bird in.
• Wear appropriate PPE where possible (gloves, mask, etc.).
• Transport the bird in a disposable box, container or wrapped in a towel that can be discarded afterwards.
• Remain outside the clinic until a staff member instructs you to enter.
• Follow all staff directions on arrival.

Please note that during an outbreak, not every veterinary clinic will be able to accept wildlife. As one of the few clinics in the Geelong region that routinely treats birds, we feel it is our responsibility to continue helping where we can, while ensuring the safety of our patients, clients and staff.

⚠️ Important reminder: Please do not bring any bird directly into the clinic. Always call us first and follow our instructions. This helps protect our staff, your bird, and every other bird that comes through our doors.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep everyone updated as recommendations change.
