Late in 2024 we were pleased to have Dr Harry and the crew from Better Homes and Gardens visit our sanctuary. It was a great experience to share our story, our mission, and introduce them to our adorable animals.

In addition to sharing our mission, we also treated the crew to some truly delicious vegan food thanks to .sina.sydney and .

Thanks again to Dr Harry and for visiting us and sharing our story with a wider audience. We are grateful for the opportunity to reach more people and spread awareness about our mission.

At 30 years old Lucy has found a new lease on life at our sanctuary.

Previously owned by an elderly woman who suffered from dementia, Lucy’s care became increasingly difficult for her owner to manage and maintaining a consistent feeding schedule proved challenging. The RSPCA intervened, offering support and guidance to the owner. However, recognising that Lucy needed more care than could be provided, they made the decision to seize her.

When the RSPCA reached out to us, we didn’t hesitate to open our arms to Lucy.

Though Lucy’s time may be limited due to her age, she is loved, cherished and now has everything she will ever need ❤️

Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful Mr Jones.

Mr Jones came to us as a special-needs rescue, saved from horrific neglect. With only around 20% vision, he learned his way around the sanctuary slowly and carefully, building trust with the people and animals around him. He learned the sounds of our footsteps, the rhythm of feeding times and the safety of those beside him. He knew the sound of a feed bucket from a distance and would come trotting over. He had carefully fine-tuned his senses to compensate for his poor vision.

Mr Jones had the kindest soul with no edge to him at all. Gentle. Curious. Steady. Never demanding. Just happy to stand beside you. He was loved by many but his closest pal was Cassie, a very mischievous pony who adored and protected Mr Jones.

Grey horses are sadly prone to melanomas and over time they presented on Mr Jones. We monitored carefully under our vet’s guidance but in these last few months the condition accelerated and finally left us with a decision we knew we had to make. We didn’t want it to become an emergency. We wanted his last moments to be calm, familiar and surrounded by the people and animals who loved him.

We left his body where he lay overnight so all his friends could farewell and grieve. Mr Jones has been buried in his favourite spot this morning.

Thank you for trusting us beautiful boy. You were much loved. And you will always be part of this sanctuary.

Run free, Mr Jones ❤️
