Sonza Veterinary Clinic & Boarding Kennels is a small family owned pet care business located between Queanbeyan and Bungendore. and his wife Mrs Gillian Montgomery. John has been a qualified veterinarian for nearly 40 years. Gill has numerous qualifications herself, including a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (with specialist certificate in Critical Care & Emergency and a specialist certifica

te in Surgical Nursing), a Diploma in Equine Management and a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training. She was national president of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia in 2010 and has taken on the role again for 2012. We take pride offering quality professional care for our client's animals with friendly staff that offer warm care to all patients. We offer a boarding facility for cats and dogs as well as an on site veterinary clinic for all your pet's health and well being needs. The veterinary clinic is closed for the Kings birthday long weekend and will reopen Tuesday 9th June at 8am. The boarding facilities are open for arrivals and departures daily between 10am - midday and 2pm - 4pm.

A friendly reminder to all that our practice is located in the ACT and as such we observe all national and ACT public holidays. Yesterday was Reconciliation Day in the ACT and as such the veterinary clinic was closed and we did not have a receptionist answering our phones. We were disappointed to open this morning and listen to several rather rude voicemails left on our answering machine yesterday by people who were upset that they could not get through to us. Please be more considerate of our nursing and reception team. They are working hard today to respond to all emails and phone calls received over the long weekend.

Hayden, Gill and Alex were delighted to help welcome these gorgeous Golden puppies to the world this morning via caesarean.
This special litter was achieved via collaboration with specialist Dr Jasmin Hyatt DACT from Veterinary Reproduction Consultancy in Orange. The dam experienced a pyometra on her last season which was medically managed at Sonza by Dr Hayden. On her next season, she was inseminated with fresh semen via transcervical insemination (TCI) by Dr Jasmin, and her pregnancy carefully monitored thereafter at Sonza with guidance from Dr Jasmin. We are all very pleased for her owner.

Dr Hayden has just returned from the 2026 Australian Veterinary Association National Conference in Brisbane. It was a busy few days packed with learning and networking with colleagues. Topics covered in lectures included dentistry, surgery, oncology, neurology, behaviour and reproduction, and much more. The exhibition hall featured information on new drugs and cutting edge technologies becoming available soon, some of which you might encounter at Sonza in the coming months.
