🐴 Young, old, in work or retired — sheath health matters.

👀 These photos show large beans recently removed during Pony Privates Services appointments. In both cases, the relief for the horses was immediate.

Beans and sm**ma build-up can develop in geldings and stallions of any age. When left unchecked, build-up may contribute to discomfort, irritation, swelling, odour, sensitivity, reluctance to be touched, changes in behaviour, and in some cases, difficulty urinating.

Routine sheath checks and cleaning are an important part of supporting your horse’s comfort, hygiene and overall welfare.

Pony Privates Services provides a calm, professional, sedation-free sheath cleaning service, with safe handling, patience and horse welfare as our priority.

We service multiple regions and are happy to travel further for larger group bookings, property bookings, equestrian centres, agistment centres, pony clubs and organised booking days.

If you would like us to come to your area, please send us a message with your location and the number of horses needing to be booked in.

This is why routine sheath checks matter.

These large “beans” were removed during a recent Pony Privates Services appointment. Build-up like this can cause discomfort, irritation, swelling, odour, sensitivity, and even difficulty urinating if left unchecked.

Many geldings and stallions don’t show obvious signs until the build-up becomes significant, so regular checks can make a big difference to their comfort.

Pony Privates Services offers calm, sedation-free sheath cleaning with horse welfare and safety as the priority.

We realised that after a few years of Pony Privates, it was probably time to properly introduce the faces behind the business — especially since a few clients have accidentally mixed us up along the way (being identical twins apparently doesn’t help 😅).

So hello — we’re Kara and Freya Vasylenko.

With backgrounds in veterinary nursing, animal health science, equestrian coaching, horse training, and equine handling, we created Pony Privates with a strong focus on calm, welfare-focused horse care and low-stress handling.

Kara holds an Honours degree in Animal & Veterinary Bioscience from the University of Sydney and has worked for several years within the veterinary industry as both a small animal and equine nurse. She is currently the Practice Manager of a Sydney veterinary clinic and brings extensive experience in professional animal care and horse handling.

Freya is an EA qualified and insured introductory horse riding coach with extensive experience in horse handling, rider education, and equine management. She is currently continuing her education through Certificate Level 1 and TRT training methods, focusing on calm, welfare-based horse training and communication.

Together, our combined science background, veterinary industry experience, and practical horse knowledge support a thoughtful, horse-first approach tailored to each individual horse.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Pony Privates so far — we’re incredibly grateful for the trust owners place in us and their horses. 🫶

And if you still can’t tell us apart after this post… honestly, fair enough.

🚨 CANBERRA HORSE OWNERS — PLANNING A TRIP YOUR WAY SOON 🚨

📍 Servicing Canberra & surrounding regions

🐎 When was the last time your horse had a proper sheath clean?

Many horses quietly carry large “beans” and built-up grime that can cause discomfort, irritation, swelling, trouble urinating, behavioural changes, and sensitivity under saddle — often without owners realising.

A lot of horses show subtle signs like:
▫️ Tail swishing
▫️ Fussiness when grooming or saddling
▫️ Stretching to urinate
▫️ Dribbling urine
▫️ Kicking at the belly
▫️ General discomfort or grumpiness

‼️ Routine sheath cleaning is an important part of your horse’s health and wellbeing, and we focus on keeping the experience calm, safe, and low-stress for your horse.

🗓 We’re planning a trip to the Canberra region and seeking bookings

📩 Message now to secure your booking or ask any questions.
(If you are just outside of these areas, feel free to reach out - we may still be able to include you in the trip)

🚨 A quick note on cancellations 🚨

We absolutely love being able to offer this service and help keep your horses comfortable and healthy — but we need to have a quick chat about late cancellations.

Last-minute cancellations (especially on the morning of your booking) have a real impact on small businesses like ours. You wouldn’t cancel on your farrier or equine dentist at the last minute — and we ask for the same respect.

With diesel prices through the roof and travel being a big part of what we do, we can’t afford to be driving long distances for bookings that don’t go ahead. It means lost time, lost income, and missed opportunities to help other clients who may have needed that spot.

We genuinely don’t want to introduce cancellation fees or deposits — we’ve always tried to keep things easy and flexible for everyone. But if late cancellations continue, we may have no choice but to implement them to keep the business sustainable.

🙏 Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule — we really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for supporting a small business 💛

‼️ A very satisfying sheath clean from our Canberra trip over the weekend! 🐴🫘

This impressive “bean” came out of a lovely gelding — and this is only part of it! It was so large it had to be gently broken up to remove it safely.

His owner wasn’t sure we’d even be able to get the job done, as he’s normally quite sensitive and uncertain with new people. But with a calm approach, patience, and taking the extra time he needed, he turned out to be an absolute darling to work with. 💛

Once the pressure was relieved, the change in him was immediate — licking, chewing, and clear signs of relaxation afterwards.

🫘 Why sheath cleaning is important:
• Large beans can cause discomfort and pressure
• Can contribute to difficulty urinating
• May cause behavioural changes or irritability
• Often builds up quietly until it becomes a problem

Many owners don’t realise their horse has one until it’s removed!

✨ Every horse is different, and some simply need a quiet, patient approach and a bit of extra time, which we’re always happy to provide.

Thank you to his owner for trusting Pony Privates with him — it was so rewarding to see the relief afterwards.
