Could your horse be suffering from gastric ulcers?
Gastric ulcers are common in horses, but they aren’t always easy to recognise. Changes in behaviour, performance, appetite or temperament can be signs that something isn’t quite right.
The only reliable way to diagnose gastric ulcers is through gastroscopy, allowing your veterinarian to examine the stomach lining directly.
🔍 Why is gastroscopy important?
Not all gastric ulcers are the same! Horses can develop squamous or glandular ulcers, and each type requires a different treatment approach.
Gastroscopy allows us to identify the type, location and severity of ulcers so we can recommend the most appropriate treatment for your horse.
📅 ESSENTIAL EQUINE VETERINARY GASTROSCOPY DAY
Wednesday 21 October 2026
📍 Platinum Park, Moorooduc
Dr Cam Hinkley from Essential Equine Veterinary will be conducting gastroscopy examinations to help owners better understand their horse’s gastric health.
Preparing your horse for gastroscopy
Proper preparation is essential to ensure a clear view of the stomach lining. Horses generally require a period of fasting before the procedure, and our team will provide specific instructions prior to your appointment.
